Was going through WWII documents, came upon a report of a flight that went down in Germany. The tail gunner was a hispanic or just spanish-American. The flight was hit with flak and the crew went down, as I went through the accounts the story emerged with twists and turns akin to any hollywood movie

First document stated that the tailgunner was found, three limbs missing laying on his parachute in a school. The witness has no idea how this happened and speculates he was injured from the blast of the bomber or in the fall. It turns out he made it to the ground alive, though possibly gravely injured according to a school teacher that had heard him say... puzzlingly to me... that he was spanish. Why would a guy who had just got three limbs blown off, or had three get taken off in a plunge to the earth, tell someone he is spanish, especially when it is obvious that he is in an American jump suit and came from an armada of American planes? Whatever, I keep reading. The first picture I have of the situation is an American who has fallen through the roof of a school and a kind school teacher that comforts him as he is dying

Witness 2 states, however, that the guy was clear of the blast and the chute deployed. does not fit in with the narrative I pictured, more ominously the witness suggests he heard talk from the germans that he might have been killed on the ground. I picture a American flyer killed by German ground forces as he attempts to escape and again, is comforted by a school teacher.

Well all this comes to the end because the third American knows what happened. The tailgunner landed, was surrounded by CIVILIANS, and gave himself up. After a bit he got into an argument, what kind of argument? The Civilians accused him of being a Jew and, he, in return insisted he wasn't Jewish but was Spanish. It didn;t matter, he was attacked, and was beaten and hacked to a bloody pulp. The several other bail outs survived.
