Confusing Map
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/map.php?gameID=80191&turn=6&mapType=large

Look at Belgium, Ruhr and Burgundy. As far as I can make out, Belgium cut the support on itself (which is not allowed [http://web.inter.nl.net/users/L.B.Kruijswijk/#6.D.15]). Ruhr has a failed support line, and the only alternative I can think of would be that Ruhr support moved to the wrong country, but I am not sure how that would show on the map...

Peter Thiel's view of economic growth
Thiel's comments at the Kennedy School of Government reveal so much insight it's scary. If you don't know who Peter Thiel is just realize you are ignorant of the world of business and should improve your basic knowledge.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
14 Feb 12 UTC
His thoughts on how government works today compared the past, and our emphasis on government control of health give a great perspective. I don't agree with him belief in government involvement, but I can't his shoelace as a businessman.

: “If Einstein sent a letter to the White House today, it would get lost in the mailroom and be treated as a joke. In the late 1960s, Kennedy focused on the space program and didn’t dedicate money to health care. Can you imagine the government doing that today?”

as a businessman, didn't his hedge fun lose 90% of it's value?

Great Thiel quote

Today’s aged hippies no longer understand that there is a difference between the election of a black president and the creation of cheap solar energy; in their minds, the movement towards greater civil rights parallels general progress everywhere. Because of these ideological conflations and commitments, the 1960s Progressive Left cannot ask whether things actually might be getting worse. I wonder whether the endless fake cultural wars around identity politics are the main reason we have been able to ignore the tech slowdown for so long.

hm, so, per his wikipedia entry, his hedge fund had well over $7 billion in assets in 2008, and in 2011, had under $400 million. (a hedge fund losing customers of course is still a hedge fund losing value).

Thiel's a billionare, so he is of course successful.

Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
16 Feb 12 UTC
2nd White Line, you must be either lazy or have a serious problem with reading comprehension. If you read my posts you would know exactly what I think of same sex marriage.

I'm a libertarian you boob. Adults should be allowed to marry any other adult that they want. No one voted on my marriage and no one should have their right to marry voted on.

Get a grip dude. Just because someone is fiscally responsible and doesn't buy into the endless lies of liberal bullshit doesn't mean they are some religious right lunatic who lets some book written thousands of years ago run their daily lives.

+1 TC, glad to here your a true libertarian
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

It's entertaining to read people post fictional valuations of hedge funds. Since of course hedge funds aren't publicly trade companies and therefore don't file the paperwork with the SEC that allows valuations of publicly traded companies.
So it's entertaining to watch because an individual saying they know the valuation of a hedge fund is basically admitting they don't know the first about what they are talking about.

One iron-clad rule in life "Fool self-identify."
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))

TC, I hardly have the time to scroll through hundreds of lines of libertarian talking points to pull out your thoughts on sexual orientation. I doubt my computer is fast enough to process that much text at once.

gregoire (100 D)
16 Feb 12 UTC
You're obfuscating, TC. Its (semi) common knowledge reported by reputable sources even if it not a precise figure - certainly a black eye for Thiel.. Not sure why you're so autistically prickly about it (oh wait...) but I really have no axe to grind with Thiel - this is just fair game in the discussion you raised. As for my interest in pressing the point? You're a dick, clearly. Never would have responded in the first place if I had known?

So the answer is "lazy." No surprise there. Unoriginal to boot. A real winner!
How much money did you receive from the government this year 2nd white line?
Thank God for the "mute ignorant fools option."
gregoire (100 D)

Anyone can verify Thiel's fall from hedge fund grace - its the age of the internet , old man. At any rate it will be lovely to not hear from you.

fwiw here's bloomberg - even quoting that 90% shrinkage:

http://mobile.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-15/thiel-s-clarium-hedge-fund-to-make-tech-investments-after-losses.html

but what's bloomberg anyway? bunch of unoriginal lazy hacks!
