I stopped playing live games for that very reason.

Pantera, I'm seriously considering the same. One game I played in Austria went CD from the start, then Russia and, unsurpisingly Germany and Turkey did very well! I went draw from the moment Austria failed to show. Others initially did but then changed their minds when it went their way. Very disappointing!

I think the opinions are clear - but there is also a quite clear reason why some people do it!
lets say you get a country you dont like to play - most players have such a country, and they vary due to playing style and experience - what do you do? play it out, or enter CD right away, hoping for everyone to vote cancel instead of draw.
if the game is cancelled, the CD will be nowhere in your record to show, and if the game is anon, noone will know you did it... most players dont like to draw, since it breaks their stats, not counting GR for draws within 1903 (right?).

one simple solution would be to make cancelled games accessible for everyone to see who played what country, plus let CD's count in players statistics - both cancelled CD's, CD's that later in the game turns into defeats, and CD's where your units manage to stay onboard right until the game is finished.

furthermore, the limit for replenished points at 100 could be decreased for every CD, say by 10 , since players who never exceed 100 , generally dont care about the loss of points due to a CD.

Per Olander, the 5 min phase has disappointed me over the course of thr past couple of weeks due to two main reasons. The main reason is the CD situation. It doesn't make for a fair game and players are either put in a fair or unfair situation, as you say.

I hope a mnod will look at the game when it ends. Can you tell me how I find out details for mods?

At the top of the page click on the Help link. On that page click on the Rules link. This is the website rules, not the game rules. Find the section that talks about emailing moderators and then email the moderators.

@PO, I don't like the idea of lowering the point replenishment as it wouldn't affect those with decent points and for those whose replenishment gets too low, they just create a new account if they really care so little.

Tracking CDs even when game is cancelled or position is taken over would help. Especially if games could be setup with a % or # of CD restriction. Tracking NMRs would also be nice for such restrictions.

Of course this could also lead to people getting NMRs and CDs and making a new account since they can't get into any games anymore. So perhaps make a way for someone to expunge these from their record. For every time you CD, you have to take over a CD position and play it out until that game ends at which point the CD comes off your record, perhaps.

It would also be nice if you could take over CD positions without those games affecting ones record, both GR and otherwise. Maybe even able to take over with a reduced cost to encourage CD takeovers.

A way to stop people taking advantage of CD situations is to change how the system handles CDs. Change from proceeding without the person to delaying the game. First NMR should reset the phase length and put an NMR on the person's record. If the phase ends again without the person entering orders, another NMR goes on the record, the country is put in CD, and the game pauses so the player can be replaced or the game can be cancelled or drawn. The game would NOT continue unless everyone unpaused and therefore was okay with continuing.

Unfortunately all of this requires coding to make happen.
