Global Chat Liars: Calling two players one.
In a current game, a player is deliberately accusing two players of being the same person. He asserts that the "player" has messaged him and admitted as much. However it is a blatant lie. Is there anything that can be done about this, because I dont want to see peoples accounts being barred over such a thing.

Face-to-Face in Boston - Last Call
We almost have the 21 needed for three full games of face-to-face Diplomacy this upcoming weekend in Boston. This is your last chance to get on board. If you live in or around Boston, enjoy spending time with other human beings, and want to test your game against some of the most accomplished (and some significantly less accomplished) Diplomacy players, let us know. You know you want to play. Saturday, June 11 = two games; Sunday, June 12 = one game.
Love it.

Toilet Graffiti
Following a post I saw in the 'your jokes here' thread, I remembered one particularly funny piece of 'art' in a public toilet and figured it didn't belong in the jokes thread. If you've seen something hilarious written in a public toilet, I'd love to hear from you!

Austria-Hungary as a good first target?
I seem to be drawn to choosing A-H as a first enemy - he seems so much in the middle of things and so convenient to attack! I refrain if the A-H is extremely articulate/experienced, if I don't border him, or if his neighbors have something else in mind. Is my 'Austria-Hungary syndrome' common?

What the hell is this??? Please check this game out.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

I don't even know where to begin, but let's start at 1915.
France literally went out of the way for England to win, and Turkey refuses to send an army to Sevas to take Moscow.
How do you do this in a WTA gunboat?
Riphen (198 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
I know right. Lol wow
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
How would I send an army to Seva? I did not want to leave it unprotected (mostly because of you).
Rancher (1652 D(S))
11 Jun 11 UTC
hey, get some self awareness folks
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
Message from Austria or zultar: "You suck at this game, and that's coming from one who was playing Austria. It's a WTA. You move your pieces so the other guy can't win. You freaking idiot."

Would you kindly explain...
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
11 Jun 11 UTC
You freaking idiot.
You move that lone army in Ankara or Smyrna to Armenia then to Sevas.
Read the damn orders.
I didn't attack you ONCE after I saw England was dominating.
lmao, "mostly because of" a 2-center Austria with no way of getting to Sevastopol without committing everything to it

it's obvious France threw the game because Turkey was not letting him set up a stalemate or trying to set one up himself
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
I play safe.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
11 Jun 11 UTC
It's a winner take all.
You do what you can to prevent the other guy from winning, such as reading the orders to see who's supporting what and to get to stalemate lines.
Rancher (1652 D(S))
11 Jun 11 UTC
since you wouldn't draw and since you people insist on WTA (never understood that still) I tactfully retreated in a game that already took 19 years for someone to win so I could at least survive and get some fucking sleep
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
11 Jun 11 UTC
Play safe?
It's a WTA, not freaking lollipop land.
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
Well, it seems as if you did not play safe, seeing that you were reduced to two SCs early in the game
Rancher (1652 D(S))
11 Jun 11 UTC
heh, heh ... he said "lollipop land"
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
11 Jun 11 UTC
LOL, I don't even know what that is but that's what Provectus should be playing.
Set up a damn stalemate line, so we don't lose. It's not PPSC, you don't get anything for surviving.
Rancher (1652 D(S))
11 Jun 11 UTC
and the winner is ... President Eden!!
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
11 Jun 11 UTC
Eden always wins... even when he doesn't play.

Provectus: Latin for advanced.
You sure think a lot of yourself.
Unless you meant it as advanced in age. Then that's fine.
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
This proves your ignorance. 'Provectus' actually means 'advance.' 'advanced' is what you could call latin slang. I meant, in the first place, for the name to say: "advance the army" and only later discovered the 'advanced' meaning in internet slang.

I bet you just googled it. Funny.
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
From the loving zultar:
"Turkward Provectus.
Did you read the rest of the comments about how you should set up a stalemate line? And that comes from not just me but experienced players."

I only see:
"lmao, "mostly because of" a 2-center Austria with no way of getting to Sevastopol without committing everything to it

it's obvious France threw the game because Turkey was not letting him set up a stalemate or trying to set one up himself"

That seems to say that I was wise to stay out of Seva, and that it was France's fault for throwing the game.
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
I see no one but you insulting my strategy.
Provectus (186 D)
11 Jun 11 UTC
About the name, to make myself clearer, the literal translation of Provectus is 'advance,' and that is how I meant it. Not 'advanced.'
Not at all. It means your stated reason for not trying for Sevastopol -- "mostly because of [Austria]" being a threat to you when it was really obvious he wasn't at all -- is bogus, and subsequently that you should have tried for Sevastopol.

And no, it's your fault for giving France no choice. You were supposed to realize England was going to win before you, accept the fact that a win was, for the moment, out of the question, and stop attacking France (who was the only power holding off England at the time) and start attacking England (through Sevastopol -> Moscow/etc.).
That said, I hope I'm not coming off too harshly. Gunboat nuances are a pain to learn and master and on this site the default assumption with gunboat games is:

(1) all other players are idiots until proven otherwise;
(2) the guy who attacks you first is an idiot until he kills you, at which point you might consider respecting his decision if he's obviously got a huge lead because of it [otherwise he's still an idiot];
(3) if you live past the beginning you are no longer an idiot and subsequently are expected to be perfect from here on out

The frustration by the others is understandable, since they just lost because an opportunity to stop a loss was blown by someone else. But at the same time, we all need to be more understanding of the fact that not everyone's going to make the right decisions all the time.

Just don't sweat this one now, it's over. Learn from it and win the next one. ;)

Crazy and I have been killing ourselves promoting the Boston F2F game. We have 16 *great* players, but if this is going to be an amazing tournament, we need 5 more people. So, everyone who is playing, try to find someone who'd like to come along and get them in contact with me.
