Global Chat Liars: Calling two players one.
In a current game, a player is deliberately accusing two players of being the same person. He asserts that the "player" has messaged him and admitted as much. However it is a blatant lie. Is there anything that can be done about this, because I dont want to see peoples accounts being barred over such a thing.

Face-to-Face in Boston - Last Call
We almost have the 21 needed for three full games of face-to-face Diplomacy this upcoming weekend in Boston. This is your last chance to get on board. If you live in or around Boston, enjoy spending time with other human beings, and want to test your game against some of the most accomplished (and some significantly less accomplished) Diplomacy players, let us know. You know you want to play. Saturday, June 11 = two games; Sunday, June 12 = one game.
Love it.

Toilet Graffiti
Following a post I saw in the 'your jokes here' thread, I remembered one particularly funny piece of 'art' in a public toilet and figured it didn't belong in the jokes thread. If you've seen something hilarious written in a public toilet, I'd love to hear from you!

Austria-Hungary as a good first target?
I seem to be drawn to choosing A-H as a first enemy - he seems so much in the middle of things and so convenient to attack! I refrain if the A-H is extremely articulate/experienced, if I don't border him, or if his neighbors have something else in mind. Is my 'Austria-Hungary syndrome' common?

Ghost-Rating and Webdip birthday
I probably won't be doing Ghost-Ratings until my exams are over, which means not before the 7th/8th.

Aside: its my webdip birthday!

Draugnar (0 DX)

And then next month I'd get huge gains from wins and draws because I risked absolutely nothing each game (1/17th of 0 is still 0), I could live with that. :-P

hehehe

How do you actually do the ratings? I know the formulae, but I presume you don't do them one by one for every person? :P
Octavious (2701 D)
01 Jun 11 UTC
I believe it is a simple case of using a random number generator to put numerical values next to a list of names. The formulae is merely for decoration.

Honestly, Ghost, I am in full agreement with Draugnar. You should also keep in mind that a quick search of made up internet statistics shows that 9 out of 10 Times Top 100 employers believe that failing at least one exam is character building and is a vital addition to a high achiever's CV.
LanGaidin (1509 D)

Happy WebDip Ghostie. Also, good luck on your exams. Don't listen to Doc Oc there... what he's not telling you is that they prefer that failed exam to be either a 2nd grade spelling test or Sex Ed in middle school. =P

How hard can it be? His major is underwater basket weaving (or was it rocket science, I forget...)
Aurevir (100 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
Honestly, sex ed does more harm than good. If kids actually paid attention to it, we wouldn’t have ridiculous debates between the pro-choice and pro-life armies, vast problems with teen pregnancy and STDs, or uptight parents finding things to sue their kid’s school over for millions- in short, all the things that make America what it is.

Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

I find this suspicious.... he only runs a script... but has no time to do it. Look to me like it's not the automatic part that needs attending to, but the manual part after, when the real result are decided :)

Maniac (189 D(B))
02 Jun 11 UTC
@Cachimbo - Ghost ratings are ratings that Ghost AKA TheGhostmaker AKA Ghostie AKA TGM give us each month. He uses things like how many times we enter games, how many times we NMR (No Move Return), CD (Civil disorder) and how many characters and messages we write each game to determine who the best players are. He then prduces a league table that everyone fights over before rediculing his methodology (if they haven't done well) or defending it to the hilt if they are OK to good players. Ghost never, ever takes bribes or demotes people for swearing.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
Cheers Maniac. Where is this rating list posted? Being fairly new here, I doubt I made the last one, but I'd be curious to see the next.
Cachimbo (1181 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
NM: Found it. And given how low I rank, there's no doubt about it: the methodology sucks (kidding!).
LanGaidin (1509 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
@ Ghost... yes, a failed Latin exam would count, and count double if it was translating the Aeneid... wow, do I miss those days:(
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
@Cachimbo, I believe Maniac is pulling your leg a little. Basically its a rating system that takes into account how good your opponents are when deciding how much to reward you for a particular result.

tournaments.webdiplomacy.net has more details.

Crazy and I have been killing ourselves promoting the Boston F2F game. We have 16 *great* players, but if this is going to be an amazing tournament, we need 5 more people. So, everyone who is playing, try to find someone who'd like to come along and get them in contact with me.
