2-8 years for Senior Prank
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umU73FZ1FHo&feature=related

Thoughts?
Kingdroid (219 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC

Personally, i think he should have a very minor punishment, like community service, because honestly, what did he think would happen? To me, 2-8 years is absurd, and pretty much just ruined this kid's life over nothing. Maybe I'm biased because I am a graduating Senior.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
I totally agree with you, Kingdroid.

That's totally absurd!

2-8 years...for dropping off a blowup doll?!

Granted the way he did it could've been perceived as a threat, just because he dropped off an unknown package...

But 8 years--for THAT?!

Come on...8 years is something you could face for a degree of rape or assault or manslaughter...

A blowup doll?

That's a severe talking-to, maybe, MAYBE community service.

Ridiculous...
Biased, maybe, but that doesn't invalidate what I think is a perfectly reasonable assessment and conclusion. I'm with you... 8 years in prison means this kid is just starting college at 26, assuming he even has money for it after legal fees rape him and his family out the ass. For a prank that didn't hurt anyone that's simply insane.
Kingdroid (219 D)

Very few things get me really angry, but this is one of them. I don't even think it cost the school money....

obiwanobiwan (248 D)

And what about when the kid tries to get a job someday? 8 years in prison? It'll nearly be impossible for the kid to get a job!

For a silly little prank with a blow-up doll, one that didn't hurt anyone and was jsut done in the psirit of senior fun...maybe it was a bit stupid, granted, but stupidity alone doesn't warrant 8 years in prison and a ruined lifetime...
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
This prosecutor's a dick. It's obvious that he's pursuing this just to improve his carrier. Notice how he decided to bring up Columbine?

Obviously the kid needs some sort of punishment, but prison time is the worst thing to do. Even the year or so he'd end up serving would be enough to completely destroy his entire future. He's already not walking, give him a cartload of community service for the summer before college. It's fine to make him an example to discourage unfunny pranks like this, but not to make him an example of another life ruined by the misplaced priorities of the justice system.

The real crime here was how not funny this prank was. If you're gonna pull some shenanigans, at least make sure it's worth it.
spyman (424 D(G))

He put a blow-up doll in the girls toilets. And now he is jail until he can come with the bail? That is ridiculous. He should get a detention or at worst a suspension. Seems like a pretty typical sort of high school prank to me. I am pretty sure I did worse when I was at school.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
Yep...I can see it...any day now we're boing to have someone arrested on two counts of Aggrevated Pushing A Guy Into The Girl's Bathroom and an additional misdemeanor charge of Being A Meanie...
Invictus (240 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
It's not as if he did nothing wrong, obiwanobiwan. I mean, it did lead to the school being evacuated.

There have to be some repercussions here. A whole lot of community service to discourage other students from being stupid enough to have their prank possibly be interpreted as a bomb threat should do it. I mean, we just saran-wrapped a couple of teachers' cars.
jcbryan97 (134 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
I think the outrage over his ordeal is misplaced. He committed a crime and is going through our criminal justice system.

I'm from a state where 16 year olds are treated as adults for crimes. So by 18 there is really no doubt that they would be punished accordingly.

I read that he was hooded and wore latex gloves in the security camera footage. Inthink that's what truly made this so bad. He obviously knew he was doing something bad--so bad that they would bring in cops and dust for fingerprints. Seeing that preparation as a school official, I too would have worried about a bomb.

And he hasn't had a trial yet. I imagine theyll reduce his charge and maybe even offer him a deferred prosecution if they have such a program.

There are people who go to jail for stealing food and diapers for their children. Our outrage should be focused on their plights, not this kid.
Kingdroid (219 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
Wait, you're saying that we shouldn't be outraged that some kid is having his life ruined because he played a harmless senior prank? What? It isn't impossible to be outraged over multiple things at once.

Yes, he wore a hoodie, and yes he wore latex gloves, because he didn't want to get stopped from walking the stage at graduation. I am almost 100% certain he did not think he would be getting 2-8 years in prison, and ruining his life because he decided to put a blow-up doll in a bathroom is fucking stupid, and outrageous.
jcbryan97 (134 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
Yes. He didn't think but caused a great disturbance. He won't get 2-8 years yet, that's just the charge. I think he'll plead to a lesser charge.

I dont think it's an either/or case. Don't be outraged by his case.
Kingdroid (219 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
*any* jail time for this is outrageous.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
12 Jun 11 UTC
He caused a "great disturbance?"

I'm chalking up part of that "great disturbance" to overly-caffeinated school and law enforcement officials who must've been pretty bored that day...

You want to treat it as a bomb threat?
Fine.
One you find out it's just a blow up doll...there's no need to send him to PRISON!

Punishments are suppsoed to fit crimes, jcbryan.

Do you honestly mean to tell me 1 scare and 1 blowup doll= 8 years in prison, the same span, agaijn, he'd serve if he were found guilty of lesser assault, manslaughter, or rape charges?

Does a prank gone awry, 1 blowup doll and NOBODY ACTUALLY HURT warrant prison time?

This is just someone overeacting to a dumb prank.

He shouldn't have to "plead" to ANY charge! This is NOT a matter for arrests and district attorneys! This is a matter for the school principal and punishing in that capacity--PERIOD.

He wore latex gloves and a hoodie because he didn't want to get caught, obviously.

He got caught.
He pulled a dumb prank.
No one was hurt.
He'll deal with the reprecussions at school.

End. Of. Story. Attorneys getting involved is just absurd, and I agee with what Kingdroid said earlier--just an attempt ion their part to further their careers...disgusting...

Would you care to explain, obiwanobiwan, how the school can punish a student once he's graduated? Save your righteous anger for a real injustice.

Once again, he should get a lot of community service to do this summer, and maybe some other punishment short of prison depending on details of the case which we don't know about. It's a scandal that he wasn't let out on bail and that the prosecutor is floating this 2 to 8 year sentence. However, he's going to get out at some point (probably already is) and he will plea to something far, far less than what the dick prosecutor is pushing for now.

Assuming the prosecutor doesn't really intend to pursue a prison sentence then it even makes sense to originally propose a harsher punishment. I mean, even when he pleas for the community service or other lesser punishment later it will be the 2 to 8 years for a prank still on people's minds. At the very least that will make kids think twice before pulling a retarded prank like this in the future. It's one thing to have seniors park their cars in a awkward arrangement or change the writing on the watertower, quite another to do something which can be interpreted as a bomb threat.

Global Chat Liars: Calling two players one.
In a current game, a player is deliberately accusing two players of being the same person. He asserts that the "player" has messaged him and admitted as much. However it is a blatant lie. Is there anything that can be done about this, because I dont want to see peoples accounts being barred over such a thing.

Following a post I saw in the 'your jokes here' thread, I remembered one particularly funny piece of 'art' in a public toilet and figured it didn't belong in the jokes thread. If you've seen something hilarious written in a public toilet, I'd love to hear from you!

Austria-Hungary as a good first target?
I seem to be drawn to choosing A-H as a first enemy - he seems so much in the middle of things and so convenient to attack! I refrain if the A-H is extremely articulate/experienced, if I don't border him, or if his neighbors have something else in mind. Is my 'Austria-Hungary syndrome' common?
