Urgent Pause Request
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=57216

This game has 3 hours to go; Russia already missed last phase, and this will make the difference between draw/solo.

This Time On Philosohpy Weekly: What's The Point Of All This Nonsense?
The question everyone asks at one point or another..."Obi, what's the point of this bullshit thread you keep posting and these pedantic, poorly-punctuated posts?" ;) (O n an alliteration kick from my last set of papers.) ;)
But really, what's the point of philosophy? (Taken to mean "thinking about life" and whatever connotation it may carry for you.) And of life?
If there's a point to all this, a goal--what is it? And if not...well, why bother, brother? ;)

Contacting the moderators
Hi all,

How do I email the mods; I can't find the contact details anywhere.

At the top of every webpage on this website, just below "Welcome, jasoncollins (292 D), you will see there are the options for: Home - Forum - Games - New Game - Settings - Help.

Click on Help.

Then in the Help section you will find the information for contacting a site moderator in the "Rulebook" section.

I really wish we could get that in the header on the forum...

Heck, a "Contact Us" that was a mailto: link to the right or left of help would be good too.

no... we are already flooded with requests. I want to put something on the 'post new thread' that forces users to go to the FAQ, make sure their question isn't already asked there, then they can post... so we stop getting 'how do I leave a game' posts... and gets more info on multi and meta before emailing us...
I'd also like something on the new user creation that states that you agree that this will be your one and only account and that you do not know anyone else playing this game... if so you WILL get caught and you WILL be banned, so if you aren't sure, email the mods and get the straight answer.

It would avoid a lot of excess emails we deal with daily...

What?! You mean I'm not allowed to get my friends involved on the site? I've been promoting it here at work. Doesn't mean I'm going to cheat and meta with my coworkers. Hell, I don't even know who they are if they have signed up to avoid just that. But your "and that you do not know anyone else playing this game" would preclude bringing people in like I brought Crazyter in. No, fortknox, on that part I *must* disagree. We cannot grow if we don't bring in people we know from other sites or even in real life. The warning should be that *if* you know someone else on here, you promise to treat them the same as any other player.

yeah, it came across discouraging and wrong, unfortunately.

I'm basically trying to discourage meta play. Yes, I want you to encourage people at work to try it out. I don't want you to play in a game with them without alerting everyone else in the game before or at the very start of the game. In fact, I'd rather you have them play a game on their own, so you can help them plenty irl without a major meta situation going on.

Meta because someone invited a friend, played in 5 games with them without telling anyone else, then secretly using that relationship to dominate is a problem because these newbies coming in aren't looking at the rules and trusting their friend. I want them to be aware of the situation before logging in, and I probably shouldn't have come up with some random verbiage without putting a lot of thought into it. Of course, I've had a frustrated day and it sort of went into that post. Sorry about that.

^^ I've campaigned for over a year to get a 'I have read the rules' tickbox in the signup, or better still (my favoured) make people answer a very simple little quiz about them before they can play. It wouldn't be hard, and would be an open book test, but then there's no way to claim ignorance!

Also, submitted a patch doing this start of April, will follow that up when I can.
Perhaps Kestas will read this and let us know?

Oh man, should I ban myself?

"to simplify: webdipmod at gmail dot com."

This is certainly a simply response. I also thought it would be slightly lazy - I don't see the point in just handing out the answers to people - surely it's much better to give people the tools to do the work themselves - so they know how to do it in the future and, in this case, where to find the relevant information again in the future.

I don't disagree, sarg, but when someone is looking and can't find it, I think the location of the answer needs to be in a simpler place. Not your fault or anything, just a pet peeve of mine.

What happens, if someone doesn't draw?
Hi,
a game gets to a point where nobody has the possibility to successfully attack any more territories. What happens, if someone doesn't draw the game? Will it run endless?

Italy was to move Army Piedmont to Marseilles, supported by Fleet Lyon. Army Venice was to move to Piedmont. I double-checked my orders less than 3 hours before the turn progressed, and am absolutely confident that they reflected this precisely. Help?

Hardest country to play in Diplomacy?
In Classic Diplomacy, I'd say Austria. You have to put trust into quite a few alliances or arrangements. In Wilson and Gunboat Diplomacy I think the hardest is Germany, because everybody wants a piece of you. I think Italy is pretty tough too, but can be fun if played right. Flip side, easiest country, France.

Sequels You Wish Would Happen
Simple enough--what sequels for existing or old movie and/or TV franchises do you wish you could see?

No cheating the Reaper--so as much as I'd love to see another Marx Borthers movie, that's out--but other than that...any adventures you wish your favorite movie heroes could still go on?

Mr. Sulu Takes On "Don't Say Gay" Bill: "It's OK To Be Takei!"
I had to psot this, as a Trek fan, and just because of the sheer hilarity...and because I back Takei on this.

Tennesse's proposed "Don't Say Gay" bill for classroom conduct is a joke, and a bigotted one at that--so Mr. Sulu has a backup plan... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dRkIWB3HIEs
