Draw request by an unwilling
Has anyone been bullied into drawing a game when they were winning? This recently happened to me, and although the men I was playing with claim this is not the case, I really feel it was. One player decided to gang up on me and the rest joined in until I caved. I know its fair to vote in favour of the majority, but the only person it seemed to hurt was me.

1901 - standard openings here, a bit worried about England moving and army into Norway, built a fleet in StP in response. Thankfully France is biting at England's belly.

1902 - Great taken Norway, now Turkey is having a go at me! grrr.

1903 - Ok, I'm going to take Sevastapol back this season. England is being invaded, but what is Germany doing? Why does he not move out to the North Sea?

1904 - I'm not going anywhere fast. I steal Edi, which was a move purely out of desperation, the gains that I had made in Austria had quickly evaporated.

1905 - a protection year. Turkey is now looking the most menacing player on the board, and there is no way I can do anything against Germany or England whilst fighting an insurgent Turk. (but I'll give it a go anyway)

1906 - Now Italy is growing at the expense of Turkey, a lucky break for me, I'll try for some grabs in Germany (I fully know that it is unlikely for me to win at this stage)

1907 - Damn the German's eyes, I loose many SC's this season, and withdraw back to fighting on the home front.

1908 - Italy now looks set for the win.

If it was me who was playing Italy I wouldn't have voted the draw. But that's life.
Good game all.

My story starts in spring of 1903 when I am swept to power in London as the British people protest the losses they had endured due to the 'previous administration'..

The french were threatening to take Liverpool and the future looked bleak.

However France and Germany were thankfull fighting and so I hoped our German brothers in arms would smile on us. Spring 1903 fleets moved to chase the French while ther was nothign I could do to prevent her taking liverpool.

Autmun 1903 - The dark days pt 1.. France indeed took the home of British Ship building and the British Fleet in London remained in a deadlock with the French out of Brest trying to take control of the English channel... a vital stalemate to maintain... Orders where simple, the defeated norwiegan fleets would regain their honor in Liverpool with support from the second fleet currently in the Irish sea... Germany appears to be happy to contain Russia in Scandinavia.. Wher ethe French will retreat too will be vital, a move north would be a disaster, but not imposible to deal with..

Spring 1904 - A brief Dawn - Liverpool is liberated and the French foolishly retreat to Wales!!! Oh happy day! Now it is time to make France pay for her audacity.. Liverpool was to move to wales and complete their victory, the fleet in London would support along the coast and the fleet in the Irish sea would make my boldest move.. a step to the mid atlantic ocean to threaten the coast of France, contain any fleet that made it into the English channel and more importantly threaten Vulnerable French possesions in Spain.. while I wish this could have been a bold forward policy but it was a calculated step due to the jackal like intentions of the Russian fleet now moving toward Edinburgh a fleet I could do nothing to halt.

Autmun 1904 - The Dark Day pt 2 Any hope that the Russians would take pity on us and focus on using thier fleet to make more sustainable gains against Germany evaporated as the Scotts were forced to give up their whisky for Vodka. Edinbrugh fell without resistance, the royal navy too much consumed with the French Danger.

The French hoped to reverse their fallings, as the German's marched into Mars with an attack into the low coutnries... which failed.

Desperation in my mind I ordered the fleet int eh Mid atlantic into makign a darind raid into portugal... We held the supply centre keepign all fleets in opperation though edniburgh is in the hands of the russians.. France is forced to disband two armies effectively breaking her power..

Spring 1905 - The long dark of night. A tough choice... again there is little to be done about the Russian travesty in edinbourgh, and so I decide to cut our losses, while she remains with only one fleet in the British Isle's she would have to leave Edniburgh undefended to take another SC this year, this is the risk I take, that Russia wouldn't risk losing Edinbourgh and would hold her fleet their for atleast the spring.

The fleet in the irish sea is ordered south to the mid atlantic, ready to help Portugal move to Spain and complete a vital back up in keeping our British Flag flying... London moves into the english channel chasing a French fleet back into Brest where they belong.

Autmun 1905 - The scare and the Coming of Hope, Russia moved a fleet that my useless intelligent services had reported as German form the Skat to the North sea! And London was left undefended!! Horror! Immediately the Fleet in the channel is ordered home, I expect a bump with the north sea but Russia again failed to make good on my mistakes... The fleet in portugal was order to liberate Spain from her FRench occupiers and this action was supported onteh Spainish Northern coast by the fleet in the Mid atlantic ocean. Russia make another supprising choice and moves the fleet in Edinborugh to the Clyde, a move which had it been made inteh spring would have been the end of me! But I have one more precious SC and build a fleet in Liverpool to start to drive the Tsar out of Scotland...

Spring 1906 Expecting the Russian fleet in the North sea to support her position in Swden with an attack or supporting an attack into denmark, I order the fleet in london to attack ehr int eh North sea, if she moves off then I regain a valuable position near Edinbourgh, if she doesn't maybe I can demonstrate friendship with GErmany by the Russian fleet from interfering in scandinavia. Germany doesn't attack sweeden though and the fleet merely bumps. The mid atlantic fleet moves north in a long term bid to win back scotland. Liverpool hodls and easily fights off a futile russian attack. I can not understand why Russian didn't pull the north sea back to edin or even the norweigan sea to help hold edinbuorgh, but she is probably distracted by the turks and germans.

Autmun 1906 - A dawn or another false hope? The Russian is forced back into edinbuorugh from Clyde by the victorious Royal Navy!! Not only that but Germany awakens and takes Sweden out of Russian hands! The russian fleet in the north sea though makes a move that worries me alot and occupies the English Channel and the Home fleet in London takes up residence in the North Sea!! Tahnkfully loses elsewhere lead Russian to disband the fleet just off the Solent. Safe passage for the demobed Russian sailours was granted! order spain to help the germans hold in mars as an act of friendship but they move on in a typical Blitzkreig fashion into Gascony...

Spring 1907 - Tettering on distaster...

The occupation of Edinbourgh was ended as the winter came to an end and the frist buds of new life were seen in the trees! But the Russain had got crafty and order a retreat into the heart of northern england and he occiped yourkshire, with London undefended this could be bad, however I do not fear for the capital as the Royal NAvy in the North sea coudl atleast guarentee a bounce in London. The north atlantic was ordered to the norweigan sea to try to put pressure on the Russian in Norway and hopefully pick up an sc, but the lightening movemnet of the russian fleet out of edibuorugh prevented the movement and still managed to retreat to York.

Autmun 1907 - Danger Danger everywhere...

Germany, with whom I had not tusseled at all, seemed very threaten as her fleets held sweden, the ska and denmark. I expect he would take Norway this turn, and the Fatherland did just that, Mother Russia was in real trouble now, an dI relaxed about yorkshire expecting a disbandment in the near future...

The German fleet in denmark did move to attack my fleet jsut as it was returnign from preventing the russians from takign London... this didn't bode well at all...

WE the SC in Edinburgh returned to where it should be we built another fleet in London. however, the FRench made an attack out of BRest into gascony and it looked like an opportunity existed for them to get soem vengence on me, as Italy could attack spain!!! 1907 may have been a year of rebirth but with Italian pretention in iberia and German movements in the North sea, it seemed 1908 coudl be a very dark year....

Apring 1908 - Defence, Defence, Defence...

Unsure who my current enemy is and not wanting to provoke one I focused on defence, the fleets in the north supported each other agaisnt any potential German agression, and Yorkshire would remain under nominal Russian control, as this was no real threat to anythign but pride. The fleet in London started a paniced journey toward the south, desperate to get there to assist in holding Iberia against a now dominate Italy. It looks possible, but I hadn't full consider what gains Italy may make in 1908

Auumn 1908 - The Italians compelte an advance into gascony and hold the whole of southern france, her fleets threaen the coast of spain in every way. I order th royal navy into a gneral defensive line, unsure of what to do and fearing that 1909 woudl be the end. My only option for adavance was to try something against Germany, but it is Germany who I desperately hope and needed to attack Italy in France, or else my holdigns in Spain and Portugal were completely gone... With the nacy now spread out fromt eh norweigan sea to spain, I could threaten (if not very well) alot of German possessions, though I did not wish to take any opportunity to upset the one Nation that had seemed to have taken pity on the British...

I asked to pause the game as I had to go and get drunk on a stag do soemwhere in deepest yorkshire (too many tress = no internet) and when I returned to Westminster the Foreign Office presented me with an offer that was too good to be true... My mind had rested on tryign to find away to survive the next two years and hold out for a a few points, but Italy had offered a draw! I instructed teh FO to check if this was genuine, as it was simply too good to be true, and if on the odd chance that it was, we woudl accept as quickly as I can click a button!

As to what the future may have held, the Italian Builds suggested a total collaspe in Iberia was likely... therefore I hoped to slow it up as much as I could by assiting Germany in southern france (not easy to do without talking!!) and luck! In order to ensure survival, and as I could no longer get to Russia, in Autumn 1909 I was prepared to order the north sea fleet to support a german move form norway into the ska... Germany seemed happy to order odd self bounces for no reason I can yet fathom, though I expect it probably does somethign great (like effectively holds three territories with two armies) and then sneek the norweigan sea fleet in the same turn. This would give me a forth sc for 1910 that wasn't threatened by Italy and I hoped enough to see me through to the end of the game with something in my hands...

Views on Goerge Orwell Great Politicain and Writer, or Pessimistic Pundant
Well it is interesting his great peice Animal farm was written when admiration for Stalin and USSR was at its height in Britain and US. We can all see today that the Totalitarian nightmare that was predicted never came about does this mean that all that pessimism was rubish and that that glim future was not possible?
