choosing sides
do you have any say in what country you start as? i just started playing, and i've signed up for 2 games... and i'm italy in both games. i know enough about the game to know that this sucks. did i neglect to choose sides somehow, or do i just have horrible luck?

A Question about Survival
I survived in a game with zero ceners left because I still had a retreat to make after the person who attacked me reached 18 by taking my last SC. This kind of seems like a cheap way to survive... Would that be counted as survival in any of the major face-to-face tournaments today?

How do draws work?
The "Help" section isn't clear: do all players have to declare a draw, or is this something that happens automatically? If the latter, what triggers it?

This site's future
So close to 4000 games are completed now. i think this site needs a better interface? i suggest www.conquerclub.com as a model. something where all the data is arranged more in a table format than in the sort of list that is incredibly hard to read.

winning percentage - a suggestion
I think that only your completed games should be used to calculate the percentages. It would make all of the percentages actually accurate. Games in progress shouldn't be included. Anyone else agree?

Canada have Saskatchewan, there just is no question of preference between the US and Canada, we've got
Saskatchewan.

Canada *has* Saskatchewan, an excellent flat rectangle the size of Western Europe.

Lots of grass there.

maybe a fairer way to work out this thing would be to ask how many Canadians(on this site) would move to the US if they had the chance and how many Americans would move north.
diplomat1824 (0 DX)
30 Nov 08 UTC
@ sean:
That sounds like a fair way to decide.
Friendly Sword (636 D)

I would not move to the US unless I was offered a much higher paying job or a scholarship to a top American University. (And even then it would be temporary).

Now, what I've seen of new England is nice, don't me wrong, and I'm sure the rest of the country is too, but Canada is just nicer to live in.

In many, many, ways...

I visited Manitoba for a couple weeks as part of a Boy Scout trip when I was in high school. While it was a nice place, America's the best. We broke away from the British against their will, much fighting ensued, and we went on to have to save their butts in about 150 years from their fellow Europeans. The only significant, modern country besides America that can claim to have done that is China and they're obviously not the best country in the world (though they're doing a great job of trying to catch up). America has the right mix of freedom, bravery on the part of our proud military tradition, and a very unique, heterogeneous culture. Unfortunately, the people of my generation (I'm 23) are crazy, but that doesn't seem to be limited to the USA, lol.

As a Manitoba citizen I take exception to this thread. It is unfortunate that American and Canadian media attention has been so focused on other matters as of late. Therefore I forgive those whose news services have not reported on the recent nationhood of Manitoba. Neither Americans nor Canadians need be concerned however. The Republic of Manitoba welcomes visitors from all parts of the globe. Come and spend a buck or two. Enjoy our beaches and scenery. The ever so popular Grand Beach is offering vacation discounts starting in January. Come and feel the heat! Experience the night life and amazing swimming and surfing to be had! North Dakotans need not be concerned at the sight of so many Canadians in the Grand Forks area. This is merely a minor expeditionary force sent by our Armed Services. A fact finding tour if you will. Welcome to Manitoba!! Conscientious objectors especially welcome!!

As Canada is still a Dominion of Her Britannic Majesty, it would have to be Canada :)

Well I've been on holiday (from England) to the USA, and briefly visited Canada when we went to Niagara falls... I'm not really in a position to judge based on just that, but it seemed to me that the Canadian side was just a bit more classy and the USA side was quite tacky. Adding to that, you Americans kicked us out of our own colonies and the Canadians just waited until we generously granted independence to them. ;) Although I'd actually rather live in the US, for the sake of the Empire, I'll say Canada.

Which is better?

http://www.thekatespanos.com/scrabble-score-calculator/

Solution for Americans
= 1 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1
= 13

Solution for Canadians
= 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1
= 12

I hope this resolves this idiotic thread, since I'm sure there are some Canadians I would love as much as I love certain Americans, and also there are Canadians I would loathe as much as I loathe certain Americans

What are the chances you'd spell either of those? =)

Psh, Samo, I lived in Winnipeg for two years in Lindenwoods, and it was the most boring time of my life. When it was summer it was too hot and mosquito filled to go outside, and when it was winter it was -50 degrees Celsius and ridiculous to go outside. I basically lived inside for two straight years. Only outside momentarily to get into a car which would take me to some other indoor situation.

That said, I wouldn't mind moving to America, for a few years, perhaps for graduate school. Then maybe I'd appreciate more being Canadian. =D
