Austrian Imperial EOG statement
========================
I've just watched the game history and read back most of my posts, to get an idea. First thing that's awkward to me is that I've missed several turns, four or more. While I had the idea of being totally into the game.
I had a late start, missing Fall 1901, which I knew - I would be away that weekend. The game started very threatening with both Italy and Russia asking if they could enter my territory. Maybe I should've let one of them in, but I was on the defensive. And I was, for a very long time. Although little happened, I was really afraid of Russia and Turkey. The difference between board and forum negotiations frustrated me and I decided to declare war to Russia. Just to get things clear, and have some purpose.
On the other hand, there were the Italians, crazy fellows. They should've kicked my ass in Fall 1901, but they didn't. Otherwise it would've been a short game for me. The moves of Italy were always distressing but eventually led to their downfall. I was very happy to reach agreement with my Eastern neighbours and conquer Italy. The Pact we had didn;t say much to me, but I was very happy Russia and Tukey kept it so well. Esspecially Turkey has defended the Pact on the forum several times, protecting me a bit from French agression.
By that time the game was getting kinda boring, with players asking for a draw. So I suggested a 'western adventure' to Russia in order to have at him. My target was not to invade Germany but to expose Russia as an opportunist power and together with Germany and England make an end to him. However, the move to Silesia didn't work and I got no support from any other country. Then I decided to go on against Germany.
A pityful mistake. It only led to Germany distrusting me and France being overly agressive. It really pained me that Turkey was in some way victim of my irresponsible actions. If we didn't draw we would have been put into a defensive stand, perhaps I could take Venice back. But Germany would advance to.
Luckily I managed to survive wih the odds against me. Not again for a while please. The least aspect of the game was not seeing the game board while writing diplomacy, and to keep both forum and games in check. Thereby the open diplomacy structure leads - here even more than in a ingame Wilson game - to a check on agression and fear of dogpile. The uncertainty in diplomacy was somewhat lost and is still a key element to the game. I had fun though :) Maybe some other time I'll play it again this way.
