Generation Jobless
A cool documentary, and although focused on Canada (Toronto specifically) it also applies to a lot of other developed countries such as the US.

Be Afriad, American Conservatives...Be Very Afraid (Or, You Know...NOT)
http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2014-03-21/conservatives-fear-discrimination-against-whites?cmpid=yhoo I don't care HOW BADLY Obama's doing on foreign policy issues (which, for the record...yeah, he's not exactly winning any awards there...um, I mean, since that Nobel that he won that even we liberals are scratching our heads over.) If conservatives don't, en masse, change their attitude on this topic and break the liberal monopoly on the multicultural vote...YOU WILL LOSE. PERIOD.

It's a new and COLORFUL America we live in, conservatives...

Except it, 'cause the world of black and white living (especially the "white" part) isn't getting so much left behind as it is getting thrown in to that "melting pot" Americans love to go on about. Curious how we love that metaphor except when, you know, it pertains to whites melting into other races and cultures...you'd almost think America was hypocritical and almost xenophobic in some areas of this country...BUT NAAAAAHHHH........that'd never happen--right, Arizona?

And I put the question to you, krellin, before you swoop in here with your "libtard" calling and ranting and raving........

Do you think the GOP will be able to reverse this position and court minority/women/LGBT (aka, "The Clinton/Obama Coalition") voters for 2016?

If so...how?

If not...how can you possibly win the election?

With policy, dear Obi, dear Obi dear Obi.
With policy, dear Obi, dear Obi,
Policy.

Low taxes and small government are not racial issues. The only problem the Republicans really have is that they've won the argument so convincingly that the other side have largely given up and copied them. Their efforts at the moment is to scupper any Democrat attempt to move things to the left, which they seem to be doing exceedingly well.

Who cares who the figurehead is when the ship is anchored where you want it?
thanks for your concern trolling

"The only problem the Republicans really have is that they've won the argument so convincingly that the other side have largely given up and copied them."

Really? The 2012 election would seem to suggest they lost that last argument pretty convincingly...

Unless you mean Obama's too conservative for traditional liberals, but then we might have a problem--

See, krellin's convinced he's a socialist demon from hell, and that'd DEFINITELY be traditionally-Left, and not him ceding the argument to the GOP and copying them.

So, which is it?

Are you wrong, and Obama and the Dems are really and truly Leftist?

Or--GASP!--is krellin wrong and we're not careening towards the Leftist nightmare that he thinks we're all headed for?

"Their efforts at the moment is to scupper any Democrat attempt to move things to the left, which they seem to be doing exceedingly well."

How about LGBT rights/marriage?

If that's not a victory for the Dems and traditional liberalism as we know it, I don't know what is...........and the GO's done an excwptionally-poor job beating that back, they've lost at every turn in recent court battles, and even traditional GOP members like McCain was pushing Jan Brewster to NOT push that anti-gay bill...

And she didn't.

Seems like a win for the liberals for me...one the GOP didn't scupper.
Octavious (2701 D)

Conservatives are in favour of individual choice and freedom, which is why gay marriage was championed and achieved by the UK Conservative Party. God knows enough of our MPs are members of the gay community.

"Or--GASP!--is krellin wrong and we're not careening towards the Leftist nightmare that he thinks we're all headed for?

Of course krellin is wrong. Honestly, what kind of a question is that?""""

Indeed Obama and the Democratic Party are not leftist in any meaningful sense of the word. In fact, their embrace of conservative mindsets is what is holding the party back since leftist positions are pretty popular with voters (although not with the corporations and wealthy campaign donors to whom all politicians answer)

@abg

No we're not. We're talking about Conservatism which, as has been shown by the governing Conservative Party in the UK, and indeed by virtually all the American Conservatives on this forum, has no inherent anti-gay ideology. Aside from the gay stuff everything was entirely Yank focused.

"Conservatives are in favour of individual choice and freedom"

...As opposed to liberals being in favor (sorry, no u for me :p ) of Evil Empire-level tyranny, no choice for anyone and soup made from the blood of rainbows and puppies?

...OK, FOX News believes that (and whoever the far-far-Right equivalent is in UK fringe politics) but nobody with an actual brain does, so what's the actual dichotomy being made here? Between individual choice vs. government choice?

If people choose the government choice or choose to have the government choice, how is that not individual choice if they all vote individually to adhere to that government decision and choice?

So what's the dichotomy here?

"you'd almost think America was hypocritical and almost xenophobic in some areas of this country...BUT NAAAAAHHHH........that'd never happen--right, Arizona?"

You're fine in Arizona as long as you are straight white or a Native American living on a reservation. Everyone else in the state has to watch out that they aren't arrested or shot for living while colored.

At least the whites in the US don't have to worry that their country will turn Islamic like in Europe where their liberal refugee policy and lack of borders within the European Union has led to a rise in its Muslim population.
Octavious (2701 D)

No, obi, not Imperial tyranny. But the Left generally feels the need to take control to ensure people don't fail. To take an example from the UK, traditionally benefits for those most in need of State assistance for food and shelter was paid, in a large part, directly to the landlord instead of the person. It was strongly believed by the Labour government that this was the best way, as the people will have to pay for somewhere to live anyway so why not the government do it for them and make sure there are no cock-ups (like the person blowing all the cash on drink in a moment of weakness, or something along those lines).

The Conservatives got into power and tried to change the system. Give the person all of the money each month and let them pay the rent themselves. It gives them responsibility, it puts trust in them, it gives them the ability to choose more of their own destiny, and it gives them a huge opportunity to make a hash of it.

The Conservative instinct is that it is better for people to have as much control over their lives as possible, to have the freedom to take action to make their lives better, and that the freedom to bugger things up is a price well worth paying. The instinct of those on the Left is to first ensure that a certain quality of life is guaranteed, and personal responsibility and growth can come later.

All political types (with very few exceptions) do what they do in an effort to make life a better place. It's just that Conservatives are far better at achieving it ;).

The boston college tapes
This is a difficult one, and I'm really undecided about how I feel about this issue. For those who don't know the boston college tapes are recorded interviews of former paramilitaries in Northern Ireland who only agreed to speak on condition that they would not be released until after their death. Tapes have now been handed to law I forcemeat and some interviewees have been arrested for serious crimes. Help me out here..

Webdiplomacy Tournament 2014
I am interested in starting a Webdiplomacy tournament this year. Please post here if you are interested in joining and state your preferred phase length. At the moment I am thinking 36-72hr phases. It will take solo winners through to the next round and those in draws (the less people the better) might have a chance to join the soloists. Is anyone interested?

Putin33, about the Crimean situation.
I don't have the link right now, but I'm sure someone wants to look it up so we can all call him out on what he was so absolutely certain about that it was pretty much impossible to have a sensible discussion about Crimea with him.

What did Draug do?
So, there seems to be a running joke about how much everyone hates Draugnar. Other tha the fact that he swears for emphasis a lot, I find he usually makes real points when he posts, and when I have had a real question regarding the game/forum, he has been downright civil and helpful. Polite even.

So what started the whole "everybody hates Draug" thing that gets brought up all the time. let the newbie in on it guys.

Funniest Joke
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?". The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guys says "OK, now what?"
