Is the GOP Dying?
Amid yet another sign of a complete brainwashing scheme to throw out anyone with a half bit of independent thought, the GOP appears to be splitting. Where's the line, (when) are they going to split?

You idiots!
I'd like to point out to everyone on this website that is a Marxist (There are quite a few of them, though I've muted most), that it hasn't worked in the long run ANYWHERE. Soviet Russia, Cuba, France, Norway, Poland, Rumania, Czechoslovakia, Angola, Somalia--all places where Marxism existed for a long time, ended up worse off then they were before.

Close the damn prison Yankees. You're creating new enemies that all NATO countries will have to go fight again. The NRA is a much more dangerous organization now than Al Qaeda is. Move on.

policy question: game cancellation due to banned players
I know that if 2 players are banned in the same game the policy is to cancel the game after the players have been given an opportunity to draw it.

Normal Games?
Although I haven't been on this exact website very long, I've noticed that there aren't that many normal games anymore. I don't mean like classic, or world diplomacy or whatever. It just seems there are a lot of gunboat and winner-takes-all/no in-game messaging games. I'm not dissing those types because they can be fun. But diplomacy is about talking with people. I'm not dissing different types. I'd just like to know other people's views on this.

Survey about Lando's tournament and TD policy
Just in case people don't look at the tournament's thread.
Here's the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SQNP86Z
We will take everyone's vote into our decision. If there is a disagreement between tourney players and everyone else, Kestas will decide what to do.

Can the moderators please ban people who sign up for games and don't show up to play them?

A no-show totally messes up the balance of the game.

Meanwhile in the UK council elections the far right BNP have gone from holding 3 of 2400(ish) seats to 0 of 2400 seats. Rival far right group, The National Front, have done slightly better by avoiding losses and keeping their number of seats at a steady 0.

It seems like as the euro crisis becomes more normal that they're going to stop freaking the fuck out over it.

Before it seemed like it was the beginning of Europe's slide back from modernity. Not so much anymore.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
05 May 13 UTC
As I discovered who golden dawn was on thos very site and researched them some before, they have hardly slid back 6 years ago got less than 1% of the vote 7 % in last elections and polling at a national average of 15 now

From 8 election offices to 60 in less than a year that is not sliding back.

That's Greece, the biggest victim of the "you can't go under" crowd which is sadly getting poorer as we speak because of it. The rest of Europe is normalizing. And Jobbik is just enjoying the fact they have some seats although they are irrelevant.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
05 May 13 UTC
Jobbik I know next to nothing about so I cant comment and only know of golden dawn due to a conversation with someone on this site about them

Who is this ukip party I keep hearing about?

Stressedlines (1559 D)
05 May 13 UTC
I just did a quick search on poll results in hungary jobbik is polling 2nd the leading party appears to also be center right

Ive not looked at anything else but not sure of their polling history is 2nd where they have been for a while?
Octavious (2701 D)

UKIP are a centre-right single issue party who campaign against the UK's EU membership.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
05 May 13 UTC
Thats all they want?
Octavious (2701 D)
05 May 13 UTC
Pretty much. Naturally, as with most single issue parties, they have a fair few members in their leadership who'd rather like them to evolve into a fully fledged party, but they haven't really made an effort to develop a manifesto worthy of the name.

They also want to reintroduce smoking in pubs. I completely disagree with this. I like going to pubs, I don't smoke. A healthy lung is a happy lung!

Don't vote UKIP!
Octavious (2701 D)
05 May 13 UTC
They're not going to force pubs to allow smokers. They want to give pubs the option of allowing smokers if they want to. Imagine going into a pub and finding a potentially harmful drug! Sacred blue!

"It seems like as the euro crisis becomes more normal that they're going to stop freaking the fuck out over it.

Before it seemed like it was the beginning of Europe's slide back from modernity. Not so much anymore."

If the eurocrisis becomes "normal" then we should expect extreme parties to gain support, not lose it. Some European countries have youth unemployment rates above 30%. If this becomes permanent and we have a lost generation of angry twenty- and thirty-somethings who have no prospects of matching their parents' success or even being financially independent then these people will turn to populists on the left and right.

Melenchon and le Pen together got almost 30% of the vote in the first round of France's presidential election. That lunatic 5 Star Movement in Itay did even better just a few weeks ago. Even Germany (which, unlike Austria, has truly eradicated far-right politics) now has an explicitly anti-euro political party. Considering how the European idea has been inseprable from post-war German national identity this is an earthquake.

The longer people are suffering in economies bound by the straight-jacket of the eurozone the more likely illiberal parties will succeed in elections. Europe needs at least a banking union (probably a full-on confederation), or a regression into a free trade zone with national currencies. Stumbling on like this will only lead to societal rot, or even serious political instability.

Who can blame countries like Greece or Italy or Spain turning to the extreme left/right when the "moderates" are fucking them on the order of Berlin?

Too right, it's a shame the UK doesn't have a far left for me to vote for.
Octavious (2701 D)
05 May 13 UTC
The UK has several far left parties, including the Socialist Worker's Party and the UK Communist Party, but no one votes for them because they're shite. Much like our far right parties.

France's National Front gaining popularity is a concern, but it has only been achieved by them toning down the extreme nature of their policies quite considerably.

The 5 Star movement of Italy, in contrast, is a heart warming example of frustrated voters ignoring the far right and choosing a non-extreme protest. If anything this is evidence of the far right's failure.

There is also nothing extreme about a German anti-Euro party. In fact i see it as rather a positive development.

mobile app!
I think a mobile app for this site would be great. Notifications when people send messages or that a phase is almost finished would help games move along much smoother. I'm sure there are many more things that could be done on an app, maybe even everything, but that alone would be helpful. I don't know anything about programming apps, though, so someone get on it!!

Let's Try This Again...NEW GAME--Global Speak, 7 Players, 7 Different Forms of English!
So I tried to get this started a while back, before my brief hiatus...
But yes--I'd like to start up a game with Global Chat, and each of us will use a different form of English (ex. Southern US English, Cockney English, Middle English...I know someone was interested in Rastafarian English...I'd use Elizabethan-era/Early Modern English, etc.) so yeah...anyone, join up? Game is inside, PM me for the password.

The Star-Crossed Stars and Bars--Mere Symbol of the South or a Symbol of...THAT South
http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2013/04/why-accidental-racist-is-actually-just-racist/274826/ A little late to the party on this one, but I've been very busy with classes (hence my brief absence...anyone miss me? *crickets* LOL) but as we have quite a few Southerners here, I thought I'd ask--would you ever wear/display a Confederate flag, and just take it as a symbol of the South, or is that spoiled by some of it's possible negative connotations?

Civil disorder on saved moves?
If you save your orders but don't mark as ready and then time runs out, does civil disorder ensue? Or are saved orders carried out? Sorry if this answered somewhere in the rules section, but I could not find an answer.

Funny baby stories about your baby or you as a baby
As a dad of a 29 month old baby, there are a number of things that my daughter does that just makes me burst out laughing. I would like to share some of them with you folks, and if you have your own to share (whether of your kids or of yourself when you were little), that would be great.
