Claims of metagaming
Do people really do this as a tactic? I'm curious because I was just sent a sternly (but politely) worded email regarding such a charge, and I know for a fact that it's baseless, so either someone is a bit precious about being ganged up on, or they're using it to gain some sort of advantage in a game.

Need a mod for this game
Here is the link
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=62836#gamePanel

England, Italy, and I (Austria) voted to draw and unpause, however Germany is gone. I don't want to take the win away from Italy, considering he wins the next game, could a mod unpause the game? Germany did not have a chance to win anyway. If anyone did it was England.

Everybody is still alive and I would really appreciate a draw (the name of the game pleases me). Anyways a lot of people left because for some reason WebDip went down.

Hey, mods, I kinda made a big mistake...
I signed up for a live game as the last player (can't leave) thinking it was starting in 18 minutes. It's starting in 18 hours. I am 99% sure I won't be here for it. Is there any recourse?

gameID=43762 We started with 170 pot, we have 344 now. I don't know why people join for one phase and never come back, but it is getting a bit silly having a new India, Pacific Russia and Antarctica every second week.

So, I was going to wait a month to talk about this, but, honestly, I'm just too excited. So, put your name and where in the *world* you're willing to travel, so we can pick our next destination. This is just to get a general impression of where the most activity is.

^ lol. that's a shame, but whatever we decide i'm going to start saving now.

boston wasn't easy for me and i am basically bankrupt but it was worth it that i would break the bank again.

and why not? i'm not an adult yet so i can go broke on fun stuff like cruises.

anyway, i'm just glad there seems to be significant interest for round 2. because i really took the cake for.... playing crappily at boston

Hey, joey, St. Louis is less than 1100 miles from Ottawa, but over 1000, would you stretch your maximum distance a bit to make it?
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

ab, of course you don't know what you'll be doing in one year, that's not the point. Most tournaments, as far as I understand, take place the same time each year. WAC Con in Seattle is the third weekend in January, I believe, every year. This may sound a bit rigid, but if you think about it, it allows for other tournaments to "reserve" a different weekend each year and allows for the maximum number of tournaments that do not conflict in case somebody wants to hit as many as possible. Well, maybe I'm pulling that theory out of thin air, but I like the idea of the weekend before Father's Day, though that may be because I typically am busy on Father's Day and I plan to go camping the week after Memorial Day with my brother and his family, so the weekend we're discussing for WebDip F2F should always be free, or at least not guaranteed to be booked ahead of time, which is just about as good, right? PLUS, if we have a weekend scheduled, then if any of us want to go, we won't book something else that weekend, so it's good for planning and maximizing attendance to firm up not only where, but when.

Okay, I think that horse is dead...
Babak (26982 D(B))

well, I would not be opposed to a 2nd web-dip tournament THIS year. sometime in the late fall, maybe mid-october. I know it's a bit tougher for students, but if we set it up after most mid-terms, that would not be a bad time.

and there are so many players on this site - specially on the west coast, that we could make it work.
Crazyter (1335 D(G))

I don't know if anyone else has suggested this but Vegas wouldn't be a bad idea. Ridiculously cheap flights (subsidised by the Nevada Gaming Commision, yeah capitalism) and I would assume cheap accomodations for a large diplomacy tournament.

Besides that:

@LJ Vegas is a great idea. You are right there are very cheap flights there from everywhere. Some in this crowd will be attracted to the gaming, for me I loe the national parks nearby like Valley of Fire and only a few hours drive to Grand Canyon.

FortKnox - Midwest. Cincinnati or Dayton and I'd be happy to get/setup a venue. Seems like quite the central location of the midwest, and not as expensive as chicago (and more to do than columbus). I'm sure draug and woofer would be willing to help out, as well. If not, I may be able to pull off St.L.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Yep, Draugnar's in to help if it's Cinci or Dayton. This little town has a pretty good contingent fromt he WebDip community.

@MM

I agree. Having it the weekend before Father's Day sounds good to me.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))
20 Jun 11 UTC
Yeah, ab, lots of people plan stuff for Memorial Day week, as well as Father's Day, so our weekend is pretty good all things considered...

Draugnar, Ohio is convenient for the north, but Boston was pretty far north, it would be nice to go a little farther south to accommodate those people a bit better. That said, I think both St. Louis and whatever city in Ohio works should both be on the short list of sites to consider. Which other cities? Sounds like DC was too close to Boston, which I agree with...
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Jun 11 UTC
Obviously something West, like LA (or Vegas, I could break away from poker during the day to play Dip) would be good possibilities.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Jun 11 UTC
Oh, and Cincinnati is the only real big city south in Ohio considering it's on the Ohio River (Dayton is north of it) and everything further south (by going east on the Ohio / up river) is really small (not cities) until you get all the way up river to Wheeling, WVa which is actually farther north than Cinci or Dayton.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
20 Jun 11 UTC
I agree with DC being too close to Boston, although it would make a nice location perhaps for 2013.

Vegas would be cool, but we have the problem of no locals to help organize it.
fortknox (2059 D)
20 Jun 11 UTC
I think a separate west coast and midwest game should be organized (one in early summer one in late summer?), because we have a contingent west of the rockies that would game together, and a large group in the midwest, and the rest can pick or go to both. Thoughts?
Ipsum (151 D)

I hear you can hire locals super cheap in vegas

Never, ever, ever ask me to pause a game again.....ever
As you probably know I don't like pausing, but will do so occassionally when people promise to be back by so and so date. But then somebody else announces that they won't unpause for another week, and there is nothing I can do - and of course the mods won't intervene. Which is all fine, but don't ever expect me to pause again - if you don't like it don't join a game I'm in. /endrant

A Question On Film
Took a Film and Lit class this semester--and it was a lot of fun, one of the msot enjoyable classes I've had while in collage, the material was only so-so, but the atmosphere and folks there were great--and it got me thinking: what "kind" of art would you classify film as? A different kind of theatre? A different, motion-based kind of canvas/physical art? Another kind of medium? It's own category? How should we evaluate film artistically, as it's now such a part of our modern culture?
