Claims of metagaming
Do people really do this as a tactic? I'm curious because I was just sent a sternly (but politely) worded email regarding such a charge, and I know for a fact that it's baseless, so either someone is a bit precious about being ganged up on, or they're using it to gain some sort of advantage in a game.

Need a mod for this game
Here is the link
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=62836#gamePanel

England, Italy, and I (Austria) voted to draw and unpause, however Germany is gone. I don't want to take the win away from Italy, considering he wins the next game, could a mod unpause the game? Germany did not have a chance to win anyway. If anyone did it was England.

Hey, mods, I kinda made a big mistake...
I signed up for a live game as the last player (can't leave) thinking it was starting in 18 minutes. It's starting in 18 hours. I am 99% sure I won't be here for it. Is there any recourse?

In King's County Washington a recent ordinance requires a life jacket when boating, swimming, or floating punishable with an $86 fine.
All in the name of "public safety?"
There was a recent wave of drownings in King's County that demonstrated a sharp deviation from previous norms that required government action?

1. Fuck off with the 'socialist trolls' crap. *You* are being a troll by posting this thread. A troll is someone who posts specifically in the hope of attracting an angry response. Like what you just did.

2. A few questions about the Kings County lifejacket law:

Jamiet99uk (873 D)
29 Jun 11 UTC
Question one: What do public safety laws have to do with socialism?

Question two: Can we have some more specifics? When you say people have to wear lifejackets while swimming, what kind of swimming do you mean? Swimming in rivers? Swimming in the sea? Swimming at the local swimming pool? Also, what do you mean by "floating?"

Question three: Why are you asking US if there was a recent wave of drownings in King's County. Go look that up yourself, or contact the local authorities and ask them.

Question one: Why are you old enough to get on the internet without comprehending that regulating private behavior in the name of public safety is the heart of socialism.

Question two: "Go look that up yourself"

Question three: To impose a regulation the regulatory body should have to show a change in consequence that requires a change in regulation, and not vice versa.

"Why are you old enough to get on the internet without comprehending that regulating private behavior in the name of public safety is the heart of socialism?"

It isn't. You seem to have an odd definition of socialism. I'm 30 years old, for reference.

"To impose a regulation the regulatory body should have to show a change in consequence that requires a change in regulation, and not vice versa."

And have they? Presumably they must have some reason to make this change in the law. What argument have they given for their decision?

Acts 4:32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.
Putin33 (111 D)

Ok first of all the law says that the first time someone is caught without a lifevest they are warned, the second time they will be given the fine. Second of all, the reason for the ordinance is that there 17 people who died from drowning in King County waterways between 2005 and 2009, and because the waters this year are faster and colder due to winter flooding and heavy snowmelt.

Once again you don't know what socialism is, Tettleton. Socialism is state control of the means of production. But if promoting public safety is associated with socialism in the minds of people, that's a good thing. Because public safety measures are overwhelmingly popular and save lives.

Actually I would be perfectly content to post my thoughts in a thread that is completely ignored by anyone and everyone, but that is impossible because I post about the horrendous failures of socialism and socialists can't abide any deviance from the company line. They simply can't tolerate any dissent.

@Tettleton: "Question one: Why are you old enough to get on the internet without comprehending that regulating private behavior in the name of public safety is the heart of socialism. " You are a fucking moron. So, you are opposed to vehicle speed limits? You are opposed to traffic lights? You are opposed the the requirement of functional brake lights on a vehicle? Now, yes, admittedly these are "public" behaviors. Well, swimming in the public, say in a lake or a local public pool, is ALSO something which can endanger others, or compel others to action. For example, a child drowning in a lake -- these sorts of *accidents* happen all the time -- this action will compell a life guard to have to save you. You, no doubt, consider swimming in a public lake a "private" activity....but it is not.

IN short, you are just a narrow-minded jackass. Even the staunchest of Conservatives will admit that the government *does* play a role in our lives in order to provide safety and opportunity for all. Sometimes this limits behavior....such is the reality of life. I wonder - if you have kids, do you regulate their behavior? Or do you just let them run wild, so as to not be a socialist father?

But you see, I AM A CAPITALIZT TROLL, NOT a SOCIALIST troll. So I like TO PUT LOTS OF THINGS IN CAPS in order to EMPHASIZE how much RIGHTEOUSNESS and VIRTUE IS IN MY POSTS. So you FILTHY SOCIALISTS BETTER BE SCARED, because I can PROVE THAT SOCIALISM IS WRONG BY SHOUTING INCOHERENT ARGUMENTS IN CAPSLOCK. You HAVE LOST THE ARGUMENT SO LEAVE!

I guess swimming in a lake without a life jacket when there isn't a lifeguard around endangers the fish or birds right?
How did the world survive before these regulations kept the world safe at night.

No, but swimming in a lake when anyone else other than a lifeguard around could endanger those other people why they try to save your fucking ass before you drown. Moron.

And has been pointed out. The lake is public, therefore the activity is, by definition, public. Double Moron.

And one final moron moment from you... As has alos been pointed out, socialism (which I don't completely agree with) is about distribution of wealth/production to all according to their need combined with contribution and is differentiated from communism in that you can get ahead based on contribution, but more of your earned wealth is distributed than in a lower taxed capitalist society. Moron Three for Tettleton's Chode.

Tettleton is the EXACT same person as Putin. BOTH of the would HATE the idea....and yet, they are both narrow-minded idealiststic fools that think the world actually runs on philosophy, rather than reality. In philosophy, everyone has enought o eat, and nobody starts wars, and everyone is equal within the system. In reality, none of these things are truw...and thus Putin and Tettleton are simply raging fucking MORONS because they *seem* intelligent by their use of "big words"....and yet they are simpletons, morons, in their understanding of the real world all the rest of us live in....We need to lock Putin and Tettleton is a dark room together, because they are both supreme fools. The only problem is, when we opened the door some day, they will have fucked each other and reproduced, and their offspring would be more useless than they are...
Well, technically there is enough for everyone to eat, but people choose not to share because they know that they can never be repaid; which is fair enough really. In free market or libertarian philosophy people aren't equal. The war part is sound statement though.

I think the main difference between philosophy and reality is that massive changes can't happen overnight, there's absolutely no point in creating a hypothetical utopia, because it will never happen in a million years. Thinking up of small changes that are feasible to implement would be much more helpful. For example, trying to fix USA's healthcare in your lifetime is impossible, however it would be helpful to implement laws requiring all the bills in one transaction to be combined into one so it is possible to calculate the cost of a surgery.

A Question On Film
Took a Film and Lit class this semester--and it was a lot of fun, one of the msot enjoyable classes I've had while in collage, the material was only so-so, but the atmosphere and folks there were great--and it got me thinking: what "kind" of art would you classify film as? A different kind of theatre? A different, motion-based kind of canvas/physical art? Another kind of medium? It's own category? How should we evaluate film artistically, as it's now such a part of our modern culture?
