if Hitler was smart he would have cut a deal with the British and French in 1940 and turned his attention completely to Soviet Russia. The elites of the west would have been fine with fascism destroying communism. Until the war in the West started there were plenty of admirers of Hitler in England, not least the prince. "a firm hand" "a dictator but one who is doing good" you heard the same nonsense from America in the 70s and 80s regarding the south American/African dictatorships they supported. now they are a little bit more nuanced and America doesnt support dictatorships, they support "moderates" like the Saudi royal family and (every election we win at 90%) Egypt's Mubarak.

As for the McCollum Memo, it was a meant to counter Japanesse aggresion, not expand over the world. The USA made many such war plans for almost every country (War Plan Red) and many countries made plans to counter the USA(Defence Scheme No. ) This didnt mean they were aggresive, just prepared.

WW2 had alot of could have or should haves. I do not think cutting a deal with French and English 1940 is one of heard proposed before as a viable option. If the Wehrmact was smart they would have shot Hitler in Spring of 41.

Sean, I believe Hitler did have hopes of cutting a deal with the British and French, but the British turned out more obstinate than he expected.

It was really a near thing that the Soviet government didn't collapse in the first stages of Barbarossa, particularly as the Germans got close to Moscow. If Hitler had sent the Wehrmacht in with winter coats that might have been enough to do it.

Good thing he didn't!

If he had not kept moving divisions from one army group to the other. They lost alot time that way.

If Hitler had listened to his generals...he wouldn't mess up Stalingrad, he wouldn't mess up Britain, be wouldn't mess up Normandy...

Maybe Hitler was planning to take out the USSR and leave Britain and France alone, but his first priority was to take back German territory. He didn't expect Britain and France to actually keep their promise and defend Poland - after all, they had made the same promise to Czechslovakia. As I understand it, Hitler admired the British and had no intentions of war with them. But thats the way it turned out. After that he should have concentrated solely on taking out Britain and France and assuming Russia would stick to the Nazi-Soviet pact. No reason why they wouldn't.

We would have made much better Hitlers!

Going for Lenigrad first than using that as jumping off point in spring of 42 to take out Moscow would also work. This would have freed up the Finnish army to take Mermask and Archangel, German units tied down to the siege could have used more effectivly else were, after the port was reopened in 42 supply problems would have eased up for the northern and central Army Grps.

choosing sides

do you have any say in what country you start as? i just started playing, and i've signed up for 2 games... and i'm italy in both games. i know enough about the game to know that this sucks. did i neglect to choose sides somehow, or do i just have horrible luck?

A Question about Survival

I survived in a game with zero ceners left because I still had a retreat to make after the person who attacked me reached 18 by taking my last SC. This kind of seems like a cheap way to survive... Would that be counted as survival in any of the major face-to-face tournaments today?

How do draws work?

This site's future

So close to 4000 games are completed now. i think this site needs a better interface? i suggest www.conquerclub.com as a model. something where all the data is arranged more in a table format than in the sort of list that is incredibly hard to read.

winning percentage - a suggestion

I think that only your completed games should be used to calculate the percentages. It would make all of the percentages actually accurate. Games in progress shouldn't be included. Anyone else agree?
