Non-live "Live" gunboat game...
I am looking for a few players to play a non-live gunboat as if it were live. The honor system rules follow.

Punishing Corporate Crime
So, the world seems to have no good way to punish serious criminal actions by corporations. What about this:

No specific game. Just my thoughts on current events, past events and I'm sure future events.

If I were in a game I'd be at builds 1912
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Oct 12 UTC
And no, itbis at most 25 minutes per game year assuming all retreats and the build with 01 being 20 as there is no S 01 retreat (impossible to dislodge an enemy is S 01)

Ok, ok, my math wasn't exact, but still... it shows that it's never "just" 5 minutes. It can drag along for quite a while.

@The Czech

Sir, I hesitate to offer you any advice, given that you are a much stronger play than I, but I would like to remind you Diplomacy is a game where you're simulating the social-strategic decision making of a powerful violent dictator. You're asking if it's okay to attack someone because they're moving too slowly?

Here is a partial listing of things that violent dictators have used as excuses to attack people:

1) Self-Defense
2) Preemptive Strike
3) God told you to
4) God didn't tell you not to
5) Being Turkish
6) Not being anti-Turkish
7) Not being anti-Turkish *enough*
8) Loan repayment failure
9) Being part of an "Axis of Evil"
10) Failure to wed your sister
11) Because we are better than France

So really, it seems that Violent Dictators seem to use pretty much any provocation as an excuse for massive violence.

Suppose a game is in spring 1913. Spring, retreats, fall, retreats, builds, five phases per year, excluding 1901, which obviously only has three phases. 12*5 = 60 phases, 63 total. Conservatively estimating a minute wasted each turn, that's over an hour you would spend waiting for an asshole player to not ready.

Done jmo.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Assuming all those phases occur and the player had orders in all of them. But the player won't always have retreats or disbamds/builds. And the player isn't an asshole except to the arrogant asshole who thinks his way is the only way.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
09 Oct 12 UTC
Any player who theoretically wastes this much time is an asshole. Even MLB has rules to speed up the pace of play, but players still step out of the box and adjust their batting gloves after each swing, pitchers walk around, catchers make trips to the mound, most of which isn't really necessary. Wastes time and people don't like it, but there's no rule against it. Doesn't make it right or sporting, though.
The Czech (40398 D(S))

3 hours 30 minutes to go Draug, keep it up at this pace and you'll make the 4 hour mark in no time. (Except 4 hours)
nnfolz (100 D)
09 Oct 12 UTC
Again: if there is a legit reason, then that's fine. Sometimes a little extra time is necessary.

I've been in games however where that clearly is not the case. Games where you only have a choice to build, disband or retreat and I've seen players take the full 5 minutes. One can never know for sure why the player is doing it, but when the game last a while and it has been consistent, it's very hard not to conclude they aren't just dicks.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

They probably want someone to CD so they can solo.
nnfolz (100 D)
09 Oct 12 UTC
A player might have a seemingly good motive, but they are still dicks if they do this.
2ndWhiteLine (2611 D(B))
09 Oct 12 UTC
If I were in a game like this at this time of night, I'd probably say that I'm going to CD and go to bed. I would look forward to tearing Italy a new asshole in the forum tomorrow morning, though. If only I was in such a position, I'd wish good luck to the other players and tell the big guys to keep me alive so I can get a spite draw.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Oct 12 UTC
I still say that they can take the full time every time. Perhaps they plan to outlast the others. Doesn't matter. Diplomacy is a game of thieves and there is no honor amongst thieves.

@Czech

"So, has anyone ever punished someone like that by denying them a part in a draw?"

I can't remember doing that at any time, but I can remember, in a game where I had been broken already, that I suicided by screwing with the delayer over anyone else. I've used it as a tiebreaker for whether or not I stab someone, too. Ready the fuck up.

All beer from Germany is the same. It's pretty much the law. No microbrew culture either. Rather disappointing really.

I feel the same way about wine from Argentina. Do they make anything but Malbecs? Italian wine is great because there is always some unheard of wine to try.

French pastry is very good. I love macarons. But I grew up on Italian cookies. Anise pazzelles? Nothing better.

So why is it that you refuse to ready your orders?

Was it any of the reasons people had proposed?

Draugnar (0 DX)

Putin - Until you have been to various parts of Germany and tried beers from all over, you have no basis fro comparison. The soil and the way the hops amd barley are grown in the southeast corner of Germany add a very disinct tlavor to the beers when compared to Western or Northern beers.

The Great Debate II: Thucy, dub, 2WL,dD_ShockTrooper vs.My Fellow Krellinists?
It seems as if we have a new wave of vocal and talented akrellinist thinkers, who certainly seem as willing as I to type on the matter, albeit from the other end--so, care to debate, say, 2-4 akrellinists vs. the same # of Krellinists, on a thread w/ a neutral moderator, we each give an opening statement in succession (say, 500-1000 words or less), one rebuttal per person, and then open it up for questions, side with the most +1s for their comments "wins?"
