The easiest solution would be to just add the site to your usual rotation. Play enough games regularly and you get into a habit of checking the site. Of course, this eventually degenerates into never logging off the site and continuously checking for new forum posts, game messages, phases, etc.

@BreathOfVega - It's not that I forgot I signed up. I checked the site this evening because I remembered that I had signed up! But I'd missed the deadline by less than an hour. I didn't make a note of the precise time that the first move time limit would expire. I wasn't sure when it was because when I signed up there wasn't a full complement of players. I thought I would check again at lunchtime but forgot - SO SHOOT ME!? Again this is the first time I've played on this site in 3 years effectively a newbie. Don't you think newbies should be cut a little slack?

But in any case I don't know why you're focussing on my ability to manage my time. You're never going to get everybody on this site with your fantastic ability to keep on top of your webDiplomacy commitments. People will from time to time forget to submit orders. Email reminders unquestionably have the potential reduce this.

It's really a question of reducing the number of "no moves submitted" by implementing a simple reminder. Peoples email addresses are already on file.

Um, because you started a thread calling for a feature to be added to the site - a feature you require because, it seems, you're not very good at managing your time.

And yeah as BreathOfVega points out, in a full press game you should really log into the site *more than once* during each phase.

Anyone who needs an email to remind him of the important things in his life and can't simply set a reminder on his phones calendar all by himself like a big boy, probably needs to wear diapers so he doesn't go poopoo in has pants.

Sorry, Mintz, but if you can't remember for one day that you signed up for a game and need some unpaid programmer to code something just for poor little you, then you need to fucking grow up. That or you have become senile and it's time to start eating the green jello at the nursing home.

You didn't miss the deadline by an hour. You missed 24 hours of diplomacy, and you have to consider it without a reminder... it will only remind your deadline, but since you have to check your messages regularly you won't need it...

He doesn't need a diaper, just an email reminding him to go to the toilet regularly.

And they haven't agreed in any ToCs to receive spam form this site, so sending emails without their authorization would violate the spam laws in several countries.

Indeed, and lots of people would not *want* email notifications of this kind. Yes, they could turn it off, but it takes just as much effort for me to turn off the notification as it would for someone, say *you*, Mintz, to set up a Google Calendar alert to remind you, that would perform exactly the same function as the email reminder you want.

@Jamie - yeah I could do that , or I could just set a reminder on my phone, which is what I was thinking of doing in future, or a find a hundred other ways of setting a reminder for myself and so could everybody else. And all of those ad hoc methods could fail for various reasons. A simple inbuilt email reminder would make all those as hoc methods unnecessary.

@BreathOfVega "You missed 24 hours of diplomacy" - When I signed up there were only 5 players. I didn't even know the game had started. So I didn't know that I has missed ANY hours of diplomacy. Again you;re still focusing on ME and not the issue.

Why is an automated email less likely to fail than a Google Calendar alarm? It could fail just as easily, for "various reasons" such as falling foul of your email program's spam filter.
