Claims of metagaming
Do people really do this as a tactic? I'm curious because I was just sent a sternly (but politely) worded email regarding such a charge, and I know for a fact that it's baseless, so either someone is a bit precious about being ganged up on, or they're using it to gain some sort of advantage in a game.

Need a mod for this game
Here is the link
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=62836#gamePanel

England, Italy, and I (Austria) voted to draw and unpause, however Germany is gone. I don't want to take the win away from Italy, considering he wins the next game, could a mod unpause the game? Germany did not have a chance to win anyway. If anyone did it was England.

Everybody is still alive and I would really appreciate a draw (the name of the game pleases me). Anyways a lot of people left because for some reason WebDip went down.

Hey, mods, I kinda made a big mistake...
I signed up for a live game as the last player (can't leave) thinking it was starting in 18 minutes. It's starting in 18 hours. I am 99% sure I won't be here for it. Is there any recourse?

This is getting ridiculous...
gameID=43762 We started with 170 pot, we have 344 now. I don't know why people join for one phase and never come back, but it is getting a bit silly having a new India, Pacific Russia and Antarctica every second week.

Dearest WebD people, wishing you a happy Canada Day regardless of your nationality (although I know there are a few of us here). It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Ottawa...and I invited Will and Kate over to my house party tonight, but still haven't heard back from them. Hope you all have a great day!

So, I was going to wait a month to talk about this, but, honestly, I'm just too excited. So, put your name and where in the *world* you're willing to travel, so we can pick our next destination. This is just to get a general impression of where the most activity is.

Lol Eden I was going to suggest New Orleans too but that really was a horrible pitch.

St. Louis is cool too. DFW of course I'm down its just a few hours away. I could help organize it if it was in Dallas I think. I have some family there.

Draug - I went on an Alaska Cruise, one day there was some serious rocking of the boat and ain't no way that many people were having sex at the same time...

Crazy - I don't know, but I have very close friends in that city that I'm confident would know the perfect venue, they are seriously connected.

PS - The Cruise staff also said the Alaska Cruise was about the most calm waters you'd find on a cruise, compared to the Carribean and other places...

Well, after reading about the Boston F2F tourney and seeing pics and reading the feedback, I'll have to say I'm intrigued. I've never played F2F and it sounds like the webdip community would be a good start. I'd be interested in meeting up somewhere and playing.

That said, I have a lot on my plate at the moment...but if things calm down by the time there's another gathering, I'm in.

I'm in Detroit, but could travel to Chicago, Cleveland or thereabouts.

I know there is a F2F group that plays in Ann Arbor and Toledo.

October is a great time to visit St. Louis, but I suppose many times of the year are, there are just also some very hot and humid times as well... Anyway, I'll definitely at least be staying a week since my best friend lives there, and we may just have to get a round or two of Webdip Golf in, for those of you that are interested in such things...

If you choose a place where some players already live you can go there and they can provide some introduction, tour or at least good information about their home. I made a trip last summer to play at face-to-face events in Europe. I took two weeks vacation, played in Holland and France, and did some sightseeing along the way. It was excellent! The people from those areas spent our non-playing time taking me around the city.

@MM I am also planning a trip to St Louis this fall and Oct is the most likely time. My son will be in some soccer games there. So maybe we can find 5 other people and at least meet up for one game, that is if no one organzies a tournament then

Depends on airfare. Inside cabin double occupancy can be had on a three night cruise for under $300.

I feel like if I'm going to go on a cruise, I'd want it to be longer than 3 days.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Figure $80 to $100 per night for inside cabin double occupancy. Of course, Peg and I are looking at one of the $400 per night suites, but we just had a *big* influx of cash and want to do one totally selfish fun thing with 5 or 6 grand of it.

oh but "driving" distance is so relative!

i have a friend whose parents drive from iowa to their native guatemala every summer

15 Jun 11 UTC
Yeah, but this is just to get a general impression.

Remember, we had about 30 people who were *sure* they would come to Boston and we only got about 15.
Geofram (130 D(B))

For most, driving distance is being able to leave after work on Friday and arrive with enough time to get some sleep before the event kicks into gear.

For some, driving distance is being able to make the trip without having to spend the night somewhere along the way or risk death by falling asleep at the wheel.
Geofram (130 D(B))

Which means about one hour for me. The drive back down here from DC was brutal, I stopped three times just to catch twenty minute naps, almost ran off the road twice. Hence why I don't own a car, use a lot of mass transportation, and love carpools.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
15 Jun 11 UTC
One hour?

I can easily drive 2 before I even notice I'm in the car.

As long as I have podcasts to listen to, I can go 5 without stopping.

Never, ever, ever ask me to pause a game again.....ever
As you probably know I don't like pausing, but will do so occassionally when people promise to be back by so and so date. But then somebody else announces that they won't unpause for another week, and there is nothing I can do - and of course the mods won't intervene. Which is all fine, but don't ever expect me to pause again - if you don't like it don't join a game I'm in. /endrant

A Question On Film
Took a Film and Lit class this semester--and it was a lot of fun, one of the msot enjoyable classes I've had while in collage, the material was only so-so, but the atmosphere and folks there were great--and it got me thinking: what "kind" of art would you classify film as? A different kind of theatre? A different, motion-based kind of canvas/physical art? Another kind of medium? It's own category? How should we evaluate film artistically, as it's now such a part of our modern culture?
