The Sultan realizes in retrospect he should have moved to the Tyrrhenian Sea, as France now has to protect Naples or take Spain; there are insufficient forces to do both.

Accordingly, he suggest the English support the Gulf of Lyons fleet into Spain. The rebels will likely flee to Portugal, but they will be trapped there, where they can be eliminated in the spring of next year.

I am somewhat confused by the meaning of your query. Spain is occupied by a French army, thus there is no reason for it to be procured.

However, if you instead are mistaken in your words and are actually referring to the nation of Portugal- we still don't understand. Would it not be most logical simply for the British fleet in the Mid-Atlantic Ocean to support the Spanish army into the country thus eliminting any opportunity of retreat for the Italians?

We see no reason why the fighting should not end this season, allowing your fleet to return to English waters before Winter.
