Why do users display "Available Points" instead of "Total Points"?
For what the points mean or don't mean, seeing and ranking by total points is more informative that the current display of available points, no?

Why the mods are being selective?
Why they take actions against a player who breaks a rule and don't take actions against a player who breaks the same rule as the other one? What's the point of the rules then?

@Draug - I'm just trying to wrap my head around how this should all work. IMO, if a player "cheats", and the TD makes a decision that the player should stay in the tourney, the rest of the players should be notified. At the very least. Seems that transparency is the best option.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 13 UTC
I agree, they should be notified. Inf act they should be notified either way if he is found guilty of cheating n the Tourney. But it should be the TD's discretion to remove or not. He organized it and took on all the effort. He should also have the option of other sanctions within the framework of the tourney like declaring the person gets Tourney points removed or is ineligible for round bonuses or moving onto the next level: that kind of thing.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 13 UTC
The mods, then, have the final say in actually banning the player if they feel this was a transgression that was to grevious to let slide (which I admit would override the TD's option to keep him in) or to dock additional Diplopoints as those are *not* part of the Tourney, but part of the community/site.
jimgov (219 D(B))
29 Apr 13 UTC
@Draug - Agreed. So, in this case, were the other players notified?

Breifly, this is what happened:
- Player tells moderators SplitD has violated press-rules, moderators inform me provide details.
- I explain that while this breaks their rules, it is a very minor breach of GB rules and has earned this player no unfair advantage. I issue a warning that if this player has one more blemish, no matter how immaterial they will be disqualified.
- I express to the moderators that I feel that this decision is enough and that the rule-violation of the player shouldn't earn any kind of point deduction (I have no say, but figured perhaps my opinion is wanted).
- I post to the thread to remind the group of the rules of gunboat, converse will the player about the "issue"
- Drive on.

@split

Alright, then I'll assume you don't actually have any problem with the site and just enjoy wasting people's time. If you do have a valid concern in the future, you can always contact me or one of the other admins.

@Draug et al.

If a player is found cheating, in any game, to an extent that it warrants a ban, the player will be banned. If they aren't banned, the mods will let the TD decide if they wish to keep the player in the game. I see no reason why other players should be notified if the TD doesn't wish it.

If you are concerned by this policy, I suggest you start a new thread where it can be properly addressed.

In my opinion, the violation by Split was certainly not the most harmful or egregious press violation in round one, there were FAR worse things in the forum that earned silences or nothing from the mods. This was perhaps a case of the player "should have known better" but when I think of things like players suggesting that commentary should be posted, Nigee's little thing, a player from my group PMing me about the ready/save issue, etc.

I work in accounting so the term "materiality" is one I know well. I think everyone should put things into context and use "materiality" here - none of the above situations really affected the game - they were risks but all very small ones. We can move on, the tournament was not compromised. If you believe otherwise, then, you have no made a compelling case for your position.

Wrt Lando above, I think the discussion of how many countries who got was potentially worse of a violation than Split's.
Lando Calrissian (100 D(S))

Very much agreed.

The mods gave SPLIT the largest point fine in history (ava only fined me like 800 D back in the day) for what appears to be approximately the fifth worse press violation in my tournament.

And some people disagreed with him in this thread??

Now, the inverse is that "he should have known better" and to that I would argue there is not a player in the tournament who this doesn't apply to.
Draugnar (0 DX)

So, it sounds like your only complaint, Lando, was with the point docking which was well within the mods rights? I mean he wasn't booted from the tourney or banned, just a, for him, minor point docking.

I've laid out my view. Points and player bans are the right of the mods. Removal from the Tourney or game is the Host/TD choice. Seems Abgemacht agrees.

I have to say that if making mountains out of molehills was ever turned into an Olympic sport, the fair nation of Webdip would win every time. I admit I haven't followed all the details, and know little of the suggestions about commentary or who was violated by Nigee's little thing, but regardless it has been an eye opener into what tournament directors have to put up with.

Those who volunteer for these things, I salute you.

Why did Split break the rules? Did he know it was wrong? Or did he think it was acceptable under the rules of the tournament? (If I understand correctly he was talking to teammates who were not in the game).
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Apr 13 UTC
As a perdentage of total points, the docking is not the worst. Maybe cummulatively it is, but the punishment isn't a fixed amount. It is intended to punish and must be significant to do that. It's one of the problems I have with our present justice system. An $80 fine for speeding is nothing to me. To some people, it's more than a day's pay. To me, it's dinner out with the wife.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
29 Apr 13 UTC
I would like to point out that just as most players are not privy to the information that led Lando to keep Split in the tournament, so too is Lando not privy to the information that led the Mods to Split's point docking. We only gave Lando the information that was relevant to his Tournament.
jimgov (219 D(B))
29 Apr 13 UTC
So if the game in question was gunboat, and Split PMd someone about not reading up, how did he know who to PM? I mean, did he PM everyone in the game? Or did he "know" who was that player was somehow?
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

Lando, you're making assumptions, we informed you as TD of violations confined to your tournament. You do not have the full story and your assumptions are wrong. Had the other violations been worse they would have resulted in harsher point docks then 30%.

@Everyone else, email the mods if you're concerned about the way a TD has handled a situation and we will send the concerns onto Kestas, nothing constructive is going to happen by questioning Lando about something that's already over and cannot be changed.
And in that respect, abge, I didn't have the moderators messaging me in regards to the Nigee's silencing, the dozen people who gave us their country distribution or what to do about the player who were trying to organize tournament commentary.

I am not trying to say that what the moderators did was wrong, but perhaps more "unfair."

And to a further point, how could there possibly be any "information" that had to do with Split's punishment but not the tournament? I was told specifically that his violations in the tournament lead directly to the point docking. So, should the entire package of information that "lead to this violation" not have been shared with me? What is the point of sharing half the information? So that my decision could be uninformed?? This doesn;t make sense.
"So if the game in question was gunboat, and Split PMd someone about not reading up, how did he know who to PM? I mean, did he PM everyone in the game? Or did he "know" who was that player was somehow?"

There are (maybe were) flaws with the website that could be taken advantage of to gain this information, assuming one knows who the 6 competitors are.
You do have a full story and you still making an assumptions, you are a mod but you are retarded 100%.Don't lie on the forum but admit to people you are a jelous scumbag. Both of you.You can be a shame of yourselves scums.

@jmo: It's difficult for us to do that, because as players in the tournament, we weren't informed until just now that anything had occurred, and we still haven't been informed as to *what* occurred. So, I don't know whether I should be emailing you or not, because I don't know whether I have a problem with how it was handled.
You also can go fuck yourself moderators friend. You don't have to e-mail him,his cock is in front of your mouth.
Split told a guy to ready up and stop delaying the game via PM. He lost 5000 D and was told any further press violations would result in disqualification.

There is no reason that this discussion should continue on the forum.
I am mistaken, it was 15,000 D He was fined more points than most of us can expect to ever have to our name.
AlexNesta (239 D)

@Lando

You really aren't helping the situation. Split cheated so we docked some points. There isn't anything else to it. We've all moved on. If the mods were trying to take advantage of their powers, they would have just banned him. No one on the mod team is holding a grudge or has anything against split personally that would have affected his case.

How do you leave a game? Is there a way to end your participation immediately (so the other players know) or do you just stop playing and the other players just see that you "missed the last phase" and wonder if you're coming back?
