Why do users display "Available Points" instead of "Total Points"?
For what the points mean or don't mean, seeing and ranking by total points is more informative that the current display of available points, no?

Ah, the North American threesome! Three go in... one comes out! Well, maybe two, but certainly not three! The trick is to not be the one getting ganged up on.

Or, at least, not the _only_ one getting ganged up on.

I decide to just pick an ally from the start, and see how it goes. USA! You're my buddy. I'll leave you alone. Quebec! I'm going to attack you. No hard feelings.

This, of course, doesn't work out in the slightest. Read on to see how!

So, Quebec opens conservatively, while USA throws everything north, ditching Mexico. He sends his army east, at least, which is promising.

Naturally, he proceeds to attack me (_and_ Quebec) anyway, taking British Columbia to... weaken me, I guess. Dude, I'm obviously attacking Quebec. Do the concepts of "ally" or "not currently my enemy" make sense to you? Now you've got both me and Quebec pissed at you!

Incidentally, Quebec is also pissed at me, but I'm hoping that he will overlook that minor detail.

Elsewhere, this first year is rather odd! Brazil attacks Argentina while the latter offers him peace. SA walks out of BAT to defend against an attack which never happens. SA, FA, Oz, India, and China all clash with each other and get only a single build each.

And there are a surprising number of neutral centers left! Indian Territory is an unusual one, and so is BAT! Mexico and Colombia are also neutral, along with Mozambique, Morocco, Scandinavia, Lanzhou, and Bangladesh! That's a whopping nine neutral centers vacant after the first year! Plus South Pole, of course, but that's unattainable so I'm not really counting it.

-2001-

I throw my forces at USA, while he continues his two pronged attack. Quebec, alas, offers USA peace. Shit.

In the fall, I retake BCo, but lose Alaska. USA is still attacking everyone, Quebec is still attacking me, and Argentina is... fighting both Brazil and SA? Alas, poor SA. This time, he _doesn't_ defend San. So of course Argentina attacks it this time.

Also, PRussia is slaughtering China, and Europe has found his way into Turkey.

-2002-

USA is ballsy, I'll give him that. He's still attacking both me and Quebec with everything he's got. Alas, he's getting away with it courtesy of Quebec not fighting back.

I take Indian Territory and close in on California, but USA is sailing all over my home centers. Gotta love Mutually Assured Destruction!

I decide to try something clever in the fall, and leave BCo unprotected in order to attack California and Texas simultaneously while protecting Manitoba. This almost works, as I do get the USA home centers, but alas USA decides to hit BCo, taking it. Worse, he also manages to steal Venezueala from Brazil, meaning the bastard actually gets a build!

I get one too, at least, plopping an army into NWT. At this point, though, I really wish that I'd sent my eastern fleet to Beaufort instead.

-2003-

At this point, all normal strategies are out the window. I'm just trying to defend my possessions and counter anticipated moves as best I can. The USA fleet in NPO causes all sorts of problems, but Quebec isn't friendly either, so literally none of my centers are safe.

My situation has improved little by the end of the year. I have two home centers now, but no room to build, and with Quebec destroying my eastern fleet I find myself with more centers than units.

On the bright side, my counterattack against USA has left him in quite a predicament himself, with his empire effectively divided into three isolated segments, and only one home center (Florida). He would be easy pickings if Quebec actually bothered to attack him, or if South America wasn't embroiled in war.

The game also suffers its first casualty at this point. Despite starting the year with three centers, South Africa is steamrolled by Kenya.

-2004-

Quebec seizes Northwest Territory in the spring, leaving me in an increasingly dire position. I begin offering him supports in desperation, hoping that he will finally turn on the Americans.

Remarkably, I manage to hold onto my other centers, but yet _another_ threat looms as a desperate Brazil starts retreating toward my southern holdings. He's already screwed Europe by fleeing into Great Britain (he also takes Venezuela, but I don't look at that in the same light because USA took it from him first).

On the bright side, USA _finally_ is forced to disband that NPO fleet.

-2005-

Brazil irks me by taking Texas, even though I'm fighting both the nations that screwed him over. Okay, sure, survive another year, and help out immensely the two players who took you out.

Also, I was hoping that if he _did_ try for it, he would bounce out USA. *Sigh*

Meanwhile, Quebec NMRs. This has the effect of leaving Godthab wide open to Brazil.

In the fall, Brazil has the gall to offer me a support move against USA from my Texas. Go take a long walk off a short pier.

Elsewhere, I retake Yukon, but Quebec decides to show up just in time to take BCo. Meanwhile, PRussia attacks... Alaska?

I disband my army in Nevada, focusing my efforts on hindering Quebec. I'm probably screwed, but if he's going to insist on killing me, I might as well take him with me.

-2006-

In the spring, I retake BCo, and PRussia offers me a support hold. Perhaps I will be able to make a comeback after all.

And then fall moves happen. So. Much. Rage!

So, first of all, Brazil decides to earn my undying emnity by taking California. Seriously. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! You already have Texas (which you also stole from me). You are positioned to defend Godthab. You don't have a home center in which to construct extra builds. I am fighting both the nations that screwed you over and haven't done jack shit to you myself. It isn't the endgame, and there isn't a stalemate line you're trying to plant yourself on. Why the _fuck_ would you take California instead of protecting Texas, or maybe hitting Mexico?

Seriously, Brazil, go to hell.

You know what else sucks? That PRussia supports NPO into Yukon, negating my self-bounce. Why the hell would you do that, PRussia? Did it not occur to you that leaving Yukon open was the only possible way I could construct a build, and that Quebec only had one adjacent unit and I didn't need support to defend it?

Not that it ended up mattering, thanks to Brazil, but still. It's like "Screw Over Western Canada" insurance, in case all the others ways I'm getting screwed don't pan out.

-2007-

All right, I'll start pushing Quebec back by dislodging Alberta and WHAT THE FUCK BRAZIL IS ATTACKING INDIAN TERRITORY NOW???

This is actually mind-blowing. Brazil is either completely insane, completely suicidal, or is secretly madly in love with Quebec and entered a homicidal rage when I took Manitoba. THOSE ARE THE ONLY EXPLANATIONS WHICH MAKE ANY SENSE.

Okay, Tas, calm yourself. Perhaps things will be better next turn.

Nope, Brazil is still hitting it! It takes all my willpower to not immediately throw the entirety of my army at California in a furious rage.

-2008-

Of course, the one turn that PRussia doesn't support hold Yukon is the turn that Quebec attacks it. Ugh.

Since I'm in NPO, I might as well kick Brazil's sorry ass. I retake California.

Unfortunately, I also have to guess whether Quebec will attack Indian Territory or British Columbia. I guess wrong.

-2009-

Despite PRussia and Quebec becoming friends, I retake BCo and then foil Quebec's counterattack with only two units. That's called getting your ass kicked, Quebec!

-2010-

Argentina, who looked like he may be coming after Quebec next, NMRs. Meanwhile, Brazil is still alive in Godthab. I hope he dies soon.

Argentina comes back in the fall, blocking off Quebec's efforts to sail into the Pacific and finish me off. Chances are, of course he'll just try to kill me in his stead.

Elsewhere in the world, things are settling down. There are only five powers (plus Ghana with one center) left outside of the Americas, out of the original twelve. Kenya definitely has the best position of the lot, and the surrounded Near East the worst.

-2011-

I beg Argentina for peace, hoping that perhaps he will prefer to focus his attentions on the green nations. He NMRs in response.

In the fall, he comes back and takes California. Also Ontario. And Russia finishes off those bloody Brazilians. Russia is now my favorite country.

-2012-

My buddy Russia teams up with his neighbors, PRussia and Kenya, to help take out the Near East. Alas, he is the only one of the three who doesn't manage any builds this year.

Meanwhile, Argentina is beating up Quebec, and also takes NPO. This puts him in the interesting position of not being able to finish me off, and neither can Quebec. If only Quebec or PRussia would have the bright idea of working with me before Argentina manages to surround me further.

-2013-

Near East and Quebec continue to decline, and Russia makes a brief and completely failed attempt to stab PRussia. Hang in there, buddy!

-2014-

PRussia turns on Quebec, taking Yukon, but the north coast. Guess he won't be support holding me!

...I'm so screwed.

And so is Quebec. In fact, he's already dead!

-2015-

With no support from PRussia, and Quebec eliminated, Argentina surrounds me and finishes me off. Looks like I'm a goner!

-Afterward-

The superpowers spend five years trying to out-maneuver each other, but ultimately little changes until the game ends in 2020 in a six-way draw. No one else is eliminated, not even Near East, who survives with three centers due to everyone fighting over him.

-Closing Thoughts-

Quebec: I picked my first target so, so poorly. I wish we could have found a way to work together despite this, because your vengeance against my early assault and refusal to do much of anything against USA contributed substantially to all three of us eventually getting wiped out.

USA: You son of a bitch. You had guts, though, taking on the entirety of the American powers on your own. You put up a good fight, even though it more or less resulted in our mutually assured destruction.

Brazil: Fuck you.

Russia: Thanks for killing Brazil, buddy!

Argentina: Thanks for killing the rest of Brazil! No thanks for also killing me. Props for a very successful campaign, though. Un-props for NMRing so much. So... good game?

PRussia: We were never enemies, but you weren't a particularly helpful friend either. That said, I was extremely impressed at how well you did in this game, especially compared to... well, compared to almost every other Pacific Russia in the tournament.

Western Canada's Starting Units:

-Fleet British Columbia-

After taking, then losing, Alaska, this fleet engaged in the Great Exchange of of 2002, when Yukon Territory and British Columbia were lost while Indian Territory and California were gained. Afterward, this fleet retook its home province, then sailed all through the North Pacific region fighting off invasions from Quebec and Brazil. Finally, it held Indian Territory for many years, before falling in battle to Argentinian forces in 2015.

-Army Yukon-

After assaulting Quebec in Manitoba, this army lead the charge against the United States, taking Texas in 2002. It fought on the front lines against the USA for several more years, before falling during the Brazilian betrayal in 2005.

-Fleet Northwest Territory-

This fleet held the Hudson Bay for several seasons, before forming the first layer of defense against Quebec in Manitoba. There it held out until 2003, when it was destroyed by invaded forces.

Not much to say as Ghana -- A relatively successful campaign against Libya (whoo!) became a prolonged standoff with Kenya (eh) which crumbled after I NMRed (boo!) while on vacation, and shortly thereafter I collapsed like a wet paper bag (...ew.)

I will, however, jump on the "Fuck you Brazil" train -- his desperate attempts to stay alive cost me a build against Libya early on, and pissed me off so much that I ended up sailing all the way to Godthab just to hunt him down.

How do you leave a game? Is there a way to end your participation immediately (so the other players know) or do you just stop playing and the other players just see that you "missed the last phase" and wonder if you're coming back?
