@BaronEthan how big is the class? When I taught civic education way back, I wanted to get my class to play Dip as well, but preferably in one bug game. So, I thought up a version of Dip for 29 players, though never got to implement it.
Each country starts with a Prime Minister, as well as one General for each unit (3 for all, 4 for Russia). The PM chairs the Generals, and is the only one allowed to talk to other foreigners. The catch is that Generals submit orders for their units, and are allowed to build an extra unit for each SC _their_ unit conquers. The PM has no direct control over the Generals orders, but must influence and bargain with them - as well as with other countries. At the end of the game, there are two winners: the PM of the winning country, as well as the General with the most units.
So if France has an army in Pic and in Bur in 1901, expect to see a bounce on Bel :-)
Never implemented it because of seeming impossibility to prevent Generals from talking to each other, so I'm not sure if the whole idea is even viable. But maybe it can work in some form or other...
