Claims of metagaming
Do people really do this as a tactic? I'm curious because I was just sent a sternly (but politely) worded email regarding such a charge, and I know for a fact that it's baseless, so either someone is a bit precious about being ganged up on, or they're using it to gain some sort of advantage in a game.

Need a mod for this game
Here is the link
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=62836#gamePanel

England, Italy, and I (Austria) voted to draw and unpause, however Germany is gone. I don't want to take the win away from Italy, considering he wins the next game, could a mod unpause the game? Germany did not have a chance to win anyway. If anyone did it was England.

Everybody is still alive and I would really appreciate a draw (the name of the game pleases me). Anyways a lot of people left because for some reason WebDip went down.

Hey, mods, I kinda made a big mistake...
I signed up for a live game as the last player (can't leave) thinking it was starting in 18 minutes. It's starting in 18 hours. I am 99% sure I won't be here for it. Is there any recourse?

This is getting ridiculous...
gameID=43762 We started with 170 pot, we have 344 now. I don't know why people join for one phase and never come back, but it is getting a bit silly having a new India, Pacific Russia and Antarctica every second week.

Dearest WebD people, wishing you a happy Canada Day regardless of your nationality (although I know there are a few of us here). It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Ottawa...and I invited Will and Kate over to my house party tonight, but still haven't heard back from them. Hope you all have a great day!

So, I was going to wait a month to talk about this, but, honestly, I'm just too excited. So, put your name and where in the *world* you're willing to travel, so we can pick our next destination. This is just to get a general impression of where the most activity is.

abgemacht: North America
Well if you all agreed to take a trip to San Diego the locals (uclabb & I) would probably be able to scrounge up at least seven or so players. Not all of them would be of the highest standard but give us a year and we can train them up. Also a bonus, you'd be in San Diego during the summer.

I must say, this is probably too premature (much like birthing an embryo) but I suppose someplace central/west, west US. The best places are areas like Indy, Columbus, etc. I think that once you move it outside the US, then you'll lose a lot of the US players and moving it outside the UK loses most of those players. As for dates, I think the best times are June-August

@Tru

I'm doing exactly what we did last time. Trust me, we started a thread like this easily one year before the event actually took place.

Right now, I want to know where *you* are willing to travel to.

Draugnar: Continental North America and Great Lakes region of Canada.

I'd also be willing to do a Diplomacy Cruise. You know, a themed cruise where we steam around the Caribbean for several days playing Diplomacy at night and seeing the sites or enjoying the ship during the day. Then when someone is eliminated from the tournament, they still have tons to do. And spouses/significant others will have plenty to do while we play.
Geofram (130 D(B))

I'm willing to go anywhere if there's a carpool coming through Virginia. Otherwise just East/Central-East. Toronto is 9 hours away, so its not hard to get to Canada. South is more difficult unless we're talking WV/KY/TN area.

I can get to knoxville for $1.

Tentatively? Anywhere, if we're talking about the summer time.

More likely North America. Lol ab I feel you on not being able to wait. I want to play another game like now.

You share an inside lowerdeck cabin with another dipper and get that double rate (or even do the bunk beds cramming three or four in) and you can get a rate for a weekender of 300-400 US plus airfare. And the good news is, except for booze, the cruises are pretty much all inclusive. There are a few premium services like personal trainers and salon visits, but the food is there for the taking, you buy a drink pass and pop becomes unlimited (iced tea, hot tea, coffee, and water already are) and none of the shows or access to the pool or ice rink or anything costs money. Unless you drink alcohol, buy stuff, want copies of pictures, or do shore excursions, you are pretty much in the clear.

I'd add Europe to the list, but If I'm going toverseas, I want to see the sites and be a tourist, not be stuck in a room playing Diplomacy with you all, as much fun as you all woul dbe. After all, I'll have travelled thousands of miles across one or another ocean.

Ohh are we talking about a cruise??? I am so in for that. Cruises actually don't cost all that much money.

I'd like to nominate St. Louis ahead of Chicago, I have a good friend from high school that lives there, along with his dad, the three of us and my brother (that now lives in Spain) first played four-person diplomacy when I was in high school, over 20 years ago, which is how I got hooked on the game, those handful of games we played, not even knowing how to adjudicate correctly... It would be pretty fun to get them involved and I can't imagine they'd travel. Plus, St. Louis seems like a nice central location. Plus, if we pick Chicago, ava (and *many* other "ruthless" F2Fers) might come! ;-)

You're not willing to travel outside of St. Louis? : )
Assuming one of the fourteen hurricanes predicted to hit Louisiana this year doesn't level the city, New Orleans might be cool. If you all move in a big group then you won't get mugged.

...okay, I'm sorry, that was the worst pitch in the world.
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

I'm up for a cruise, and would consider all of US/Canada, but St. Louis would be sweet. My friend's wife has old family ties to the area, the venue for their wedding reception was unbefrickinlievable, I'm confident I could arrange us an ideal spot for a great deal.

DIP CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is my ultimate fantasy. Spouse/partners/kids can sightsee, we can sightsee by day, diplome by nite, eliminated people can sightsee.

St Louis-I'm in between Sept and May-my younger son goes to Wash U

West Coast -yes, very cool

CHicago or somewhere in Midwest-probably

I will travel ANYWHERE if it is beautiful-Travel is my biggest hobby besides Dip

I'm not so big on Mexico, maybe it's just a Blood Type A thing?

If venue is a huge issue, which it was sounding like it was, ab, then St. Louis should be highly considered... though a Cruise also takes care of the venue quite nicely, assuming there are plenty of barf bags close by when the waters get rough! ;-)

You don't even really feel the ship move on a big cruise ship even in huge swells in the Caribbean. The gyros and hydro planes just take care of it.

Not to hijack the thread, but I would like to point out that the World DipCon in August 2012 is being hosted by the Windy City Weasels(http://windycityweasels.org) in downtown Chicago. It would be great to see some webdippers there.

I'm liking the St. Louis idea. I could also do the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Southern US is my preferred region, although I can't see that far ahead to tell if I could attend. Just my two cents.

I'd be interested if it were anywhere in the Midwest or eastern US. Cruise might be out of the budget for me though.

Never, ever, ever ask me to pause a game again.....ever
As you probably know I don't like pausing, but will do so occassionally when people promise to be back by so and so date. But then somebody else announces that they won't unpause for another week, and there is nothing I can do - and of course the mods won't intervene. Which is all fine, but don't ever expect me to pause again - if you don't like it don't join a game I'm in. /endrant

A Question On Film
Took a Film and Lit class this semester--and it was a lot of fun, one of the msot enjoyable classes I've had while in collage, the material was only so-so, but the atmosphere and folks there were great--and it got me thinking: what "kind" of art would you classify film as? A different kind of theatre? A different, motion-based kind of canvas/physical art? Another kind of medium? It's own category? How should we evaluate film artistically, as it's now such a part of our modern culture?
