Live Game
I apologize, but I couldn't locate that large thread specifically for live games. Therefore, I'm asking here if within the half hour or so anyone is interested in a live WTA game. Thanks...

Need to drop out of the Masters tournament
Real life is an issue and I need to reduce my game load. I'm going to try and finish out the League, but I need to drop out of the masters. I'm currently getting my butt kicked in Round 4 because of a couple of NMRs.

Advise for new players.
I believe if the game of Diplomacy grew in popularity then the world would be a better place. Why don't we all just throw together some advise for new players so we can increase the love of Diplomacy.

While it is discouraged to comment on ungoing gunboats, I must praise the cooperative effort of Austria & Russia in gameID=58974. Clearly they are taking partnership in gunboats to a level seldom seen around WebDip.

To everybody who left gameID=58907
Please realise that when you leave games, you change the entire balance of the game. It's worse when you leave in a game without messaging. I hope you burn in diplomacy hell.

To those people who joined the game in the middle looking for an easy draw and then left later, I hope you suffer the same fate repeatedly without respite.

So, it's the opening we all know. I've never had an italian win, and that's what I want to see. If you've taken italy to a win with a lepanto, let's see it here, and talk about how this opening tends to play out.

All nighters
I'm pulling an all-nighter to write a term paper and will most likely pull another this week to do an Econ regression analysis project, anybody got any good all-nighter stories?

It isn't a true all-nighter but I've just slept for four hours to work on an essay this morning, to get at least some of it done before twelve o' clock.
I pulled an all-weeker senior year of high school.

Once in college, I stayed up all night reading the assignment, extracting quotes, and planning the paper. In the last hour before morning class, I cranked out the 5 pages and turned it in without any proofreading. It all worked out :)

My most ridiculous all nighter ever was upwards of 48 hours. I went to a sleepover at a friends house, followed by backpacking in the mountains the next day, and I didn't sleep at my friends house, or in the tents on the backpacking trip.

I was hired to go bartending at a university fraternity party. The party started 10 pm, and it lasted until 10 am. Afterwards we had to help with clean-up, and then we could go home. Feeling extremely tired, I walked to my bicycle...and found out I had a flat tire! I had to walk home, which took me about an hour and a half. Not cool.

@damian- this is really weird, but i've done the exact same thing :) I believe it was my junior year of highschool, so 4 years ago. I stayed up with a bunch of my friends and watched Pans Labrynth till 5 Am then I left to go backpacking didnt sleep till like 2 am that night. It was crazy fun and it was fucking stupid to watch P.L. right before hiking in the rockies, I was scared shitless for about half the trip :)

The two days before I left my friends and family in Australia to go to France for a year (and the following plane flight) were hectic. T minus 2 days, massive going away party. All nighter. Amazing. T minus 1 day, I spent the whole night packing (well okay, I slept for three hours, what of it?) I ended my almost-no-sleep streak on the plane with an attractive girl, also going on exchange to France, next to me. I'll be damned if I didn't stay up the entire 24 hour plane flight with her. I must have given a pretty good first impression to my host family here...

Last semester, I was pulling all-nighters so often that I decided to pull all-nighters before all of my finals just because I thought my sleep schedule was closer to an all-nighter than a regular schedule.
@ uclabb - You should try public school. The last four times I've been up past three in the morning has been due to partying rather than work. And our girls are hotter. And change you name, it's false advertising.

In high school, I read the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" in one night. I started at about 9 pm and finished at 4 am. I then wrote a book report about it from 4 am to 7 am. When I got home from school, I passed out and didn't wake up until 6 am the next day. I was hungrier than hell.

Towards the end of every year of university I pull so many all nighters, and then go to sleep once my exams are over/papers have been handed in, sometime in the afternoon, that I just basically become nocturnal, and it takes most of May to recover and become normal again.

My only claim to fame here was that I worked an overnight shift, went to classes, did a two hour drive to see a close family friend graduate H.S., drive back home to go straight to work for another overnight shift, went home to move from my old apartment into my new one, then crashed. It was about 50 hours straight and about 15 years ago... thought I might have cat napped in that chemistry class.....

i once stayed up all night for no good reason and then went to the grocery store when it opened at 5am. i then proceeded to stay up the next night without meaning to, i was on youtube the whole time. when i finally did go to sleep on the third night i passed seamlessly from wakefulness to dreaming without realizing it. I thought i was hallucinating and imagined it had been going on for a few hours when i woke up and realized just what had happened: i'd fallen asleep sitting on the toilet.

Last time I pulled an all-nighter was back in Feb. Had an event in the evening, and was going to go out after but that fell through, so got a lift back towards home from a friend (he lived between where we were and my place). Got stuck in traffic, so ended up missing the buses back from uni to where I live, and decided instead of getting a taxi I'd just do some work so stayed in the workroom :/

The best all-nighter I ever did was a few summers back though. After the last night on holiday, we had a crazily early morning flight, so didn't bother sleeping between. That late that evening I began reading a Robert Ludlum book, and continued to do so overnight. For those who don't know, Ludlum's material are large scale thrillers, often involving corruption at government level or a dangerously powerful large company.
So, around midday the following day, I hadn't slept for over 2 days and had just read a conspiracy novel. Add to that was quite dehydrated after this effort, and (according to my family) I was talking almost gibberish, sounding like the ranting of a madman. Still, in my head that was the most captivating and engrossing book I've ever read.

So, in conclusion, if you want to really enjoy a thriller, either become a conspiracy theorist, or to achieve the same effect but with added edginess, deprive yourself of the basic necessities and your body will fill you with such a mixture of chemicals you'll believe anything!

@ Draug- i felt you would bring something like that to the table :) Girlfriend and a stripper friend, sounds like a winning combination, i'll have to see if girlfriend can befriend a stripper ;)

@figles- that is crazy :) I've had similar adventures, usually involve late night movie watching, where i'm half asleep and eventually I believe i'm back in nam with the boys, we just got ambushed!! the next morning i'll have bruises from running into walls, and diving under tables to avoid enemy fire. My friends say it makes for a good show :)

@akilies - girlfriend at that time was a stripper so most of her friends were strippers.

That's fair enough. Its certainly not what I would have chosen to do, but I have a problem with people who have a problem with that sort of thing. Every career choice is about deciding what you're prepared to invest, what morals you'll take with you, and the payout you'll get for it.
A banker has to work for years working his way up from junior analyst up to his chosen speciality, and in doing so has to accept that in making his money he is taking it out of someone else's company. If he doesn't have a problem with this, then great: he will be well rewarded. Stripping and the like involve accepting that you don't view your body as private, and you don't mind being viewed in a sexual manner by strangers, and again come with good rates to justify this.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 May 11 UTC
I never judged her. I took her for the wonderful person she was. She wanted out of it and, as good as the money was, she decided she wanted to show/use her sexuality to people she cared about and wanted to be intimate with, and not to strangers with dollar bills. But she was no prude, obviously, and her friends were very free with each other and enjoyed the sexual side of their lives. So they gave birthday presents of the sexual sharing nature (i.e. three ways).

what happened to the girl? did you get her number at least?

The last time I pulled an all-nighter was last week when I was trying to finish up my gov paper. That was just the draft (which was due the next day)

now, im trying to turn the draft into the final copy. due tomorrow at 9am. looks like tonight will be another all-nighter....
