Need to drop out of the Masters tournament

Real life is an issue and I need to reduce my game load. I'm going to try and finish out the League, but I need to drop out of the masters. I'm currently getting my butt kicked in Round 4 because of a couple of NMRs.

Advise for new players.

I believe if the game of Diplomacy grew in popularity then the world would be a better place. Why don't we all just throw together some advise for new players so we can increase the love of Diplomacy.

Gunboat Commendations

While it is discouraged to comment on ungoing gunboats, I must praise the cooperative effort of Austria & Russia in gameID=58974. Clearly they are taking partnership in gunboats to a level seldom seen around WebDip.

Please realise that when you leave games, you change the entire balance of the game. It's worse when you leave in a game without messaging. I hope you burn in diplomacy hell.

To those people who joined the game in the middle looking for an easy draw and then left later, I hope you suffer the same fate repeatedly without respite.

I think we've all established that I am, in fact, not philosopher material.

and this is further underlined by the fact I don't, haven't, and can't drink (seizure meds...that and technically I'm a few months short of the legal drinking age, but still, I'd probably have had something by now if not for the fact it'd be seizure meds+drink, and while I'm poor at math, even I know what that addds up to.) ;)

@ fiedler - I tried that tactic on maple back when he constantly trolled me. Called him "muffin" and everything. It actually worked surprisingly well, but it actually has to be obi who starts implying that or it wont work.

Anyway yeah, either a vodka martini with olives, or a gin & tonic, or a very nice Merlot, something from France preferably, though I haven't had a chance to actually develop a taste for any specific vintages because I'm in that dirt poor student/early 20's phase, and wine is really expensive.

I'm also a dirt poor student so I usually go with either beton (Becherovka + tonic) or some home made Slivovitz. Luckily, it's been several years since I've moved away from the dangerous combination of baged wine + pseudo-coke, a guaranteed hangover for approximately 1 dollar.

Gin and tonics are quite nice. I do like the Old Fashioned, but they are kind of hard to find. I had to pay $19 for one, but it was worth it.

Slightly dirty Boodles Martini with 3 almond-stuffed olives
Thai Zeed, which is basically alcoholic curry
Old Fashioned, but only if really well made - Only 2 bars I know of do them really well - both are in Shanghai - Constellation's clasic Old Fashioned is wonderfully zesty, and El Cockteil does a lovely smoky Islay Old Fashioned with a touch of Talisker in it
