Need to drop out of the Masters tournament

Real life is an issue and I need to reduce my game load. I'm going to try and finish out the League, but I need to drop out of the masters. I'm currently getting my butt kicked in Round 4 because of a couple of NMRs.

Advise for new players.

I believe if the game of Diplomacy grew in popularity then the world would be a better place. Why don't we all just throw together some advise for new players so we can increase the love of Diplomacy.

Gunboat Commendations

While it is discouraged to comment on ungoing gunboats, I must praise the cooperative effort of Austria & Russia in gameID=58974. Clearly they are taking partnership in gunboats to a level seldom seen around WebDip.

I especially enjoy how Austria prioritized helping Russia taking Bulgaria over recapturing Vienna that has been left wide open. How hard it is to know where anothers units will move in gunboats, let alone get two units to support that move. Bravo.

btw, is there any chance we can get another one of these anon gunboat live games going shortly after this one ends, i wasn't in it to begin with, and haven't been back on this site for about a year now, but i would enjoy a nice refresher game

We've found that the best way to discourage cheating accusations in the forum is to not deal with them unless they are submitted properly.

abgemacht...you just assumed that there was something to be looked at while noone has specificly said that there was anything to be reported or asked for it.

I like the irony of the thread even though it crosses the line of the rules.

Actually, Tom, the OP is trying to accuse them of cheating through sarcasm and the mods are rightly telling him to cut it out and report it through the proper channels instead of being an ass who breaks the rules. But JJ insists he wants to be an ass and will find them docking his points even if he finally submits it through channels and is proven right.

Mods, methinks it's time to start docking everyone after a warning (myself included).

Yeah I know he's sarcastically accusing them of something. I have more of a problem with him talking about an ongoing gunboat (well it was ongoing when he started the thread)

@otto - Man! I was the first Tolkien name here! Don't you recognize Sindarin when you read it?! Draugnar stands for Wolf of Fire Draug=wolf and nar = fire (just missing the special version of the "a" in nar)

@Abge -- I would appreciate it if the mods corresponded with me via email. It would seem to me that if all business for the mods was supposed to be conducted via email, all business by the mods should be conducted by email as well. Otherwise you have a somewhat self selected group who don't apply the rules to theirselves. So, can you or one of the other mods please email me a warning if one is warranted?

Also, I see nothing forbidding cheating accusations on the forums in the list of site rules. Can someone point me to where such a rule is codified?

On a more serious note, if you click on my profile, you'll see that I'm part of the Mod/Admin team. Honestly, warnings probably should be given out via email, but it's much quicker to just warn you here. While you only need to send us one email, we may each send out 10's of emails a day, so I don't mind cutting corners occasionally.

Please realise that when you leave games, you change the entire balance of the game. It's worse when you leave in a game without messaging. I hope you burn in diplomacy hell.

To those people who joined the game in the middle looking for an easy draw and then left later, I hope you suffer the same fate repeatedly without respite.
