What McCain said during the last debate...
About 25 minutes into the debate McCain (in reference to townhall meetings) said, "The way Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy agreed to do before the intervention (touches nose & corrects himself)... the tragedy at Dallas."

Controversy
What is the most controversial thing you can think of to type in here? Why is it controversial?

Barrack Obama will not win the election because he's black.

That seems pretty controversial, wouldn't you agree?

tbh honest no i dont think its controversial in the least well from the viewpoint of people outside america
PirateJack (400 D)

Heh, probably true, but I expect that the majority of this site will be American and the target was towards them.

Now that's controversial.

I don't think saying 'Barack Obama will not win the election because he's black' is controversial at all. It doesn't express any personal racism, but expresses the belief that America has some racism, which I'm not sure any would disagree. If you said 'Barack Obama will not win because he is a n*****', then that DOES express personal racism.
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ.
Palestinians are the rightful citizens of the state now known as Israel.
Both controversial based on my experience of discussion threads read here.

Oh...and as an extension of the Palestinian thing...Iran has the right to arm itself with nuclear weapons based on Israel's possession of nukes.

Abortion is murder, It is in no way constitutional, even under the implied right to privacy. Men also should have a say in whether their children are aborted or not, seeing as how the child in question would not exist without their sperm.

Oh, and Retroactive abortions should be legal. What if I dont want the kid 1 day after birth?

I say these are controversial, at least in the US
trim101 (363 D)

@spell of wheels how are any of those statements controversial?
sceptic_ka (100 D)
11 Oct 08 UTC
Let's see:
Barrack Obama will not win the election because he's black.
Nah, perfectly reasonable concern or point of view. (I hope it's false though)

F**k yo bitches nigga.
Nope, this is just gibberish (at least to me) or maybe an insult.

Religious statements like:
"Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ."
"Eat properly or you wont get into heaven (which contains a beer volcano and a striper factory btw)."
"The creator of the universes doesn't like it when we eat pig."
These can be controversial within a particular theology but for outsiders these statements are just more gibberish.

Palestinians are the rightful citizens of the state now known as Israel.
Now this I would classify as controversial.

"Abortion is murder"
is not controversial it's just plain wrong. Murder requires the killing a human. As soon as our brains stop working we're dead (medically and legally) even though most of our cells may still be alive. Since a fetus doesn't have any brain activity until the 4th (? 3rd? 5th?) month it is only as alive as resonantly dead body.
but I would accept "Abortion is bad" as controversial.
trim101 (363 D)

no there just not controversial, controversial statements are things like the holocauste (sp) didnt happen or that white people are better than black

i thought of another one: i see nothing wrong with 2 girls 1 cup
Controversial is the arousing of a discussion marked especially by the expression of opposing views. I suppose if everyone on this site agreed with those statements...then yes...they are not controversial. If I went to Moral Majority or Hezbollah's website and made those separate statements....I am an enlightened person...but I imagine here, there are probably some opposing viewpoints. Hell....I am willing to oppose my own statements, if you aren't.

"Your mom wasn't anywhere *near* as good in the sack as your brother claimed she was"
Thucydides....so you agree with infant baptism!! :)
"but I would accept "Abortion is bad" as controversial."

I don't think this is controversial at all. Even abortion rights advocates don't WANT people to get abortions. They want people to have the choice.
most abortion rights advocates anyway. A controvosial statement would be the opposite "Abortion is good".
How about 'aborted fetuses are tasty'.

Jesus was a Heroin addict that dealt drugs on the side. Him being High was his interpretation of God talking to him.

Also, if I killed a person in a vegetative state I dont think I could get off on the line, she had minimal brain activity. And Abortion is legal throughout the entire pregnancy in some places...so in that case is it now murder? A life is a life, no one should have the choice of taking it away. that just makes them Indian givers :)

And Fathers should be able to stop women from procuring abortions if they do not agree.

And something is controversial if it has been greatly argued by opposing sides

"And something is controversial if it has been greatly argued by opposing sides"
I have to disagree, when people argue about fact from an ideological point of view then argue a lot against something that is not at all controversial.

Take evolution, nothing controversial about that but you'll still (and I bet even here) get a pile of crazies who argue against it because it contradicts their ideology (or because they were indoctrinated to).

"And Fathers should be able to stop women from procuring abortions if they do not agree."
This isn't controversial, it's just plain Bullshit. First of all it's impractical in that the woman could lie about who the farther was, and second the farther doesn't have to be pregnant, which I assume is uncomfortable as well as dangerous.

BTW: vegetative state != brain dead

here's some more BS:
"A life is a life, no one should have the choice of taking it away"
Here's a list of things that are alive: a fly, a bacteria, a skin cell, an apple tree...
A "human life" requires a working brain which come late in a pregnancy.
Without a working brain your just dealing with a collection a live cell, like say your a finger.

@TheGhostmaker: reminds me of this joke:
Someone was trying to make a list of everything that at least one person considers a fetish and started interviewing everyone. He eventually met Bertrand Russell. When asked what his fetishes were Bertrand replied: "everything that's not on your list".

To pause or not to pause... that is the question
In one of my games, a user requested to pause the game as he was not able to enter moves. I have chosen to accept, but the thought of not accepting crossed my mind (one reason being that the player is in no way bound by their pledge to start it again at a certain time).

Looking at some of the Winner takes all games, it appears that the stated restriction about >100 points to join doesn't apply. Does anyone know why? (Possibly this was in a previous post I missed)

End of Game Statements. Brief explanation?
I read of the existence of EOG statements in some other post, but - not having finished a game yet - I do not exactly know what this means (who does it? What is the typical content of it? Etc...)

Anybody would like to explain? Thanks!

3rd Presidential Debate: Best Moment ?
For me, the best moment was when McCain asked Obama how much his fine on Businesses ('Joe the Plumber') is if they didn't provide healthcare. He really hammered Obama on it. And Obama replied "zero, I provide an exception for small businesses." McCain was just floored, stunned, and looked like a dear in the headlights, a shocked/blank expression for a full minute.
