If I can clearly see my veins...
Would that suggest/mean a high blood pressure? If so, does that mean that if I can temporarily see my veins, I temporarily have a high blood pressure?

I might be closing in on something I've been trying to figure out for quite a while here, so I'm just checking seemingly obvious stuff as well to be thorough.

Sorry, krellin--freedom of speech ain't freedom from responsibility FOR that speech.

I know, I know, it's just completely unfair for people to be held accountable for what they say...I know...

Like when you catch President Obama in a lie--how DARE YOU!

I mean, so what, so the President may have lied...FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

AND FREEDOM FROM RESPONSIBILITY!

That's what the Founders had in mind when they made that the First Amendment, right?

That you should be able to say whatever you like with absolutely no adult responsibilities for that speech at all whatsoever?

Oh, poor krellin...your logic is so warped, you MIGHT just be a libtard yourself!
Freedom of Speech is a guarantee that congress will not pass a law to prohibit what citizens say. What it is not is a guarantee that people will brush off, or condone, what you say. Read the first amendment for references. Or this: http://xkcd.com/1357/

Obiwan - I'm curious, did yo uactually READ the article, or just vomit in reply to me?

So apparently you and Cpt believe that in 2014 USA, Americans should lose their jobs for things they have said in the past, and this is perfectly acceptable to you?

Good lord, Obi, I never pegged you as a Nazi...

Let me spell it out for you:
1. Guy is a pastor in a church, says things that you typically say in a church as a pastor
2. Guy applies for government job...presumably during interview/on resume his experience as a Pastor is disclosed, and the individual is interviewed, which includes discussing his previous employment (as a Pastor)
3. Guy gets job, even with the knowledge that as a pastor of a particular denomination, it *highly* probable that he has certain beliefs and even stated them from the pulpip.
4. ....enter 2014, the Modern Age of the Liberal Thought Police...where it is suddenly acceptable to lynch a man for his religious beliefs...and man, who's past was fully known previous to employment, is put on leave and his job is in jeopardy not for doing anything improper in his job, but for something he said in a prior job, that was 100% consistent with that job.

By teh way, Jew Killer...right, Obi, you guys did lynch Jesus, right...please don't ever apply for a job with me. Just sayin'....I want to make I'm applying your personal beliefs to my hiring practices...I've examined your personal philosophies and found you deficient, regardless of your job history. OK?

Nazis comparisons already? Didn't realize I'd wandered in to a thread that would display such ignorant incoherence so soon. Comparing people to Nazis for their opinions (discluding those on eugenics or an invasion of Poland) is the pinnacle unthoughtful argument.

"So apparently you and Cpt believe that in 2014 USA, Americans should lose their jobs for things they have said in the past, and this is perfectly acceptable to you?"

...Didn't we just have this conversation about Donald Serling?

I'm sorry, krellin, but if I work at Applebees...well, I'm shooting myself, because fuck Applebees (yuck.)

But assuming I survive the suicide attempt, I work at Applebees, I spy a couple of Goldsteins walk in and say "Hey there, my fellow kikes," and follow that bit of stupidity up with "You wanna try our special Chinese food option today? Come on, you know you do, Jews LOVE to order Chinese...and those chinks over there seem to like it!" then...yeah...

I *MIGHT* JUST GET FIRED FOR BEING AN INCREDIBLY STUPID RACIST PRICK.

BECAUSE THAT'S BAD FOR BUSINESS.

And aren't you all ABOUT free enterprise before all, krellin?

If it's bad for business, it's gotta go...that guy was bad for business for the people he worked for because of offensive remarks he made, remarks he made of his own free will and knowing the consequences of his actions, so..yeah...

FIRED.

"By teh way, Jew Killer...right, Obi, you guys did lynch Jesus, right...please don't ever apply for a job with me."

1. "By teh way, Jew Killer"...ah...Internet Speak at its finest, people!

2. Except your example actually DOES violate the laws of equal hiring practices, and for the same reason as this guy would lose his job--you cannot discriminate in the work place based on race, sex, creed, religion or (increasingly) sexual orientation, and if you do so as an employer or make offensive remarks as an employee, you are thus subject to termination.

3. I would never dream of working for you. Ever. I value the shred of sanity I still somehow possess far too much.

Of course your anaolgoy is COMPLETELY FALSE, asshole. He isn't accused of doing anything improper in his current job. Learn to fucking read, douchebag.

Obi -- what, you don't like Jesus Killer? You are Jewish...the Jews are generally credited with killing Jesus by general consent...Jesus was a Jew...you defend Israel and the Jews regularly instead of disavowing them...therefore, you are a Jew Killer, a Jesus Killer...right? Doesn't matter if you did it today or in the course of your job...I can ink you to supporting the murder of Jesus and the people that did it.

I'm applying YOUR reasoning as to why I can fire you, and refuse to hire you - becuase you are a god-damned Jew, right? Easy peasy, lemon squeazy. Jews need not apply.

"If there's one thing you *don't* do in California, its criticize Disney."

In fairness, if there's one thing Californians DO bitch about...

Well, we bitch about everything because we live in what is climate and entertainment and nightlife-wise one of the nicest and most absurdly-spoiled and pampered places on Earth...so of course we bitch about everything.

But you'll find plenty of anti-Disney-ites in California too...locked forever in mortal conflict with those who see a free weekend on their calender and decide NOW is the time, at the start of summer, to wait 4.5 hours in line (not kidding) to "meet" the characters from "Frozen."

And way too many people drive like they went to The Little Old Lady From Pasadena's Driving School (and Colorado Blvd. really is a bitch.)

"In sermons uploaded to various websites, Walsh, a Seventh-day Adventist preacher, calls evolution "a religion created by Satan," compares Disney to a "dark empire" of superstition and witchcraft, and criticizes homosexuality."

...Ya know...we let the crazies run wild in So Cal...

And yet, even for us, yeeeeeaaaahhhh.......you don't think that's just a wee bit embarrassing for the City of Pasadena, and you can't see why maybe, just maybe,t hey wouldn't want a guy who thinks those things to hold a position of power?

Also...evolution as a religion created by Satan.

Interesting...didn't know Charlie D. danced with the Devil (oh, wait, that was Lizzie Proctor...and Mickey Mouse--er, I mean, Mick Jagger.)
krellin (80 DX)

So your concern is that he has stated not-uncommon beliefs among certain Christian sects, NOT that he **did** something to anyone. No improper behavior...just improper belief, improper word to individuals that believed as he does.

So in Libtard USA, you are not allowed to have an improper religious belief and expect to maintain employment.

Again...Mr Jew...please do not apply with me...I don't like your beliefs. In fact, I think it is time we boycott all Jewish-owned business establishments.

"So your concern is that he has stated not-uncommon beliefs among certain Christian sects"--

Before I answer that question, I just want to draw attention to that fragment...

"not uncommon beliefs among certain Christian sects."

Draug, and all the other Christian apologists on-site--

*THIS* is why I take issue with you when you attempt to defend your religious views and say Christianity's not *really* reflective of the views of such crazies as these.

So remember this passage, dear friends...remember that statement--and if you disagree with our dear Mr. krellin and would like to argue that 1. viewing evolution as a religion created by Satan himself, 2. That Disney = witchcraft (come on, guys get it straight, Disney was a racist and an Antisemitic, NOT a witch!) and 3. Insert "Christians having a problem with homosexuality" language here ARE *NOT* in the mainstream for your religion...

Then take it up with krellin, who himself is arguing that IS "not un-common" for the Christian belief and thus not just the mewling of the crazies out on the fringe!
krellin (80 DX)

ISLAM - you know many worshippers of this beauty of a religion think it's OK to kill your daughters/wife if they step out of line.

LYING ASSHOLE.

Then take it up with krellin, who himself is arguing that IS "not un-common" for the Christian belief and thus not just the mewling of the crazies out on the fringe! "

I **DID NOT SAY** "THE CHRISTIAN BELIEF". When you start to lie and twist words, you have lost the argument, Jesus Killer.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
02 May 14 UTC
Now, back to the question:

"So your concern is that he has stated not-uncommon beliefs among certain Christian sects, NOT that he **did** something to anyone. No improper behavior...just improper belief, improper word to individuals that believed as he does."

1. We clearly have a different idea about what constitutes "improper behavior," hence this argument, since in my book, holding views which are incorrect and could impact one's job performance--yeah...given that most medical science is derived, in some way or another, from the basic fundamentals of biology, which themselves come from Evolution 101, I DON'T want a health director who holds the view that the cornerstone of modern medicine isn't just wrong, but "a religion created by Satan."

What's more, being anti-gay? In CALIFORNIA? IN *PASADENA?*

That's kinda like being a racist about blacks and trying to own a basketball team in the NBA and OH WAIT...THAT'S RIGHT...WE JUST TALKED ABOUT *THAT.*

2. I'd argue his stance on homosexuals and likewise his stance on evolution DOES "do something" to others, as he has power over people, being in a position of authority...and again, being HEALTH director, yeah, you're doing something to those you affect with your job when your view towards the cornerstone of modern health is "WORK OF SATAN!!!"
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
02 May 14 UTC
"ISLAM - you know many worshippers of this beauty of a religion think it's OK to kill your daughters/wife if they step out of line.

I guess we can fire all the Muslims, too, right?"

Absolutely not!

Because there are people like krellin honestly think that Islam involves an entitlement to "kill your daughters/wives," as if the operating government in Iran actually follows Islamic law. I was kind of hoping you might address that as opposed to letting his bigotry slide...

I don't know the Koran the way I know the Bible...

I honestly don't know if there's a provision for such action in the Koran.

One being there obviously wouldn't justify it--the same way that cutting a woman's hand off for crushing a man's privates isn't kosher no matter what Deuteronomy says--but as I honestly don't know if there is a provision in there, and I do know that the concept of "honor rape" has its roots in what at least some would consider Islamic-inspired law...I'm not qualified to mount a defense.

If you want to, be my guest.

(I'd also note that I DID make the distinction that Muslims not following that egregious practice should be fine and keep their jobs, rather than just pretending all Muslims do want to kill their wives and daughters, so I think that's a fair bit of distinguishing defense without saying "Islam doesn't say X" and then potentially finding out the Koran, for all I know, has "X" right there smack dab in the middle of the book?)

Is it weird that I'm so far kinda in agreement with krellin on this one?

I mean the Duck Dynasty guy, fine, he was a black mark on A&E's face, and they have every right to fire him when he hurts their rep.

But this guy, sure he's an idiot, but did he actually do anything wrong in his job? Can we fire members of the bureaucracy for things they've said if it hasn't been shown to impact their duties? I'm asking, not telling.

Besides, Disney IS a dark empire of superstition and witchcraft.... almost as bad of one as the church of 7th-day Adventists.
