Personally I view freedom to be far more important then security, not just because I think terrorism is vastly overrated and not nearly the threat most people believe it is, but because frankly freedom is just too valuable.
My main reason for supporting free speech and the freedom of the press is the importance civil liberties has on human develop and innovation.
Let us imagine, rather then banning freedom of speech today, there was no free speech 50 years ago. MLK would not have been able to make his I have a dream speech.
Let us imagine that 100 years ago free speech was not around, would the womens rights movement have been able to progress?
The simple fact is, most people who oppose freedom of speech generally run under the assumption that only opinions they disagree with will be banned. You're not the government and giving the government power, and frankly power that is too easy to abuse (as we would be unable to protest against policies we disagree with) is frankly a far greater problem then any possible external threat to the union.
"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety, and will loose both." -Ben Franklin
I also find it ironic that someone who has taken such a large stand against the moderators for silencing dissent (blankflag) would take an opposite view for real world politics.
Why are mods not allowed to stop free speech but governments are?
Even if Synapse does support it and was just baiting others to argue for him, freedom of speech is one of the most fundamental and important liberties in any truly free society.
A British tar is a soaring soul, As free as a mountain bird, His energetic fist should be ready to resist A dictatorial word. His nose should pant and his lip should curl, His cheeks should flame and his brow should furl, His bosom should heave and his heart should glow, And his fist be ever ready for a knock-down blow.
"Just a day after he had shot two teenagers dead in his home, Byron Smith spoke with calm precision and polite cooperation as he explained to a sheriff’s sergeant that fear and a series of thefts drove him to fire the fatal shots..." http://www.startribune.com/local/256112661.html
Would that suggest/mean a high blood pressure? If so, does that mean that if I can temporarily see my veins, I temporarily have a high blood pressure?
I might be closing in on something I've been trying to figure out for quite a while here, so I'm just checking seemingly obvious stuff as well to be thorough.
Building in a home supply centre belonging to another power
I have a rules query: say I'm playing France, and I want to build in Paris. Paris is unoccupied by any unit, but coloured Purple, because Russia occupied it previously and no one has yet re-occupied it. Can I build in Paris or not?
