I'm a gun guy myself. Not a crazy, government-hating redneck, but I like to shoot guns. I have a .22 that I use for target shooting, a sporting-clay shotgun, and an M1 Garand I got because I love WW2 history and it's an interesting piece.
We have several handguns, mostly for target shooting and self-defense, but they're locked up, as are all the others.
The biggest issue I have is that everyone misses the issue.
The issue isn't guns, by itself. The issue is mental health, first, and second, gun awareness and education - keep your guns secure, away from the untrained and unfit for use of them - kids, mentally challenged, etc.
The media is blaming video games, guns, violent movies, but the real issue here is way too complex for one thing to be at fault - America is a nation of guns, always has been, and we have to live with that, and be aware of it.
