Stressed, I tested you... you flunked. It's clearly written in the article that this student has been in trouble for inciting violent behavior in the past. I've made my case for an assault rifle ban... this wasn't an assault rifle. It was a kid that had a hit list and everyone knew it yet did nothing.

Two ways to pass blame here ... one is certainly the parents and the other would be the school. The parents have a responsibility to make sure this kid isn't feeling suicidal or homicidal, first of all. I know there's no contract for having a baby, but isn't that common knowledge? Parents can tell this stuff, and the fact that my parents knew when I needed some kind of mental intervention is probably the biggest reason that I'm alive right now. I'm not sure why that didn't happen here and now this is the result.

So, once again, since you didn't read the article *or* my post, I am not asking for a gun ban. I am asking for some common sense on the part of individual communities. Education is a good start, background checks on gun purchases are a good start as well. That's nothing too much to ask, is it? No, the kid didn't purchase the gun (presumably), but he shouldn't have had possession of it in the first place if his surrounding community and family could have simply read the signs that were right in front of them.

These two guys had a variety of illegal fully-automatic assault rifles complete with 100 and 75-round magazines, armor-piercing ammunition, and full suits of body armor. Bo is definitely right about this particular story not being a gun issue. The gun issue comes up when a single person becomes capable of killing tens of people in a matter of seconds. This story would be very similar if he had walked into the room just swinging a big knife.

You do realize that this website, like everything else in life, has a particular context-environment so that this story (and more importantly, your extremely vague OP) will be analyzed in said context-environment? Do you realize that making a thread title "Opening this can of worms again" /necessarily/ implies that you're delving into a topic already well covered on the forums and, consequentially, is well rooted in the context-environment of the site?

At this point in analyzing your posts and general attitude, I can only assume that you came here to troll with this article. For one, you did not draw attention to the main point of your posting this article but rather distracted from it. Your response to Stressed ("Stressed, I tested you... you flunked.") is the line of a troll, not a poorly received OP. A proper response, if this is, in fact, a discussion you want to have, would have been, "Stressed, it's clear that I was unclear. Let me start over. This isn't about gun bans, this is about prevention of psychologically unstable individuals acting in a harmful manner to others or themselves." That, child, would have been a productive post. Saying that your extremely ill-planned OP was misinterpreted and then you trying to play it off as you being clever to trap some unsuspecting user is almost certainly well within the definition of trolling. It is not within the definition of being an adult who wishes to have a conversation.

The article discusses a kid whose community knew he had a history of violence yet somehow they let him get to the point of shooting another student and thankfully not more. It's disgraceful that this kind of thing can happen.

There is mercy and respect available for anyone who earns it. For example, we don't give Conservative Man hell just for the hell of it. He's only 17 also, I think, and no where near the insolent prick that bo_sox is.

CM is actually younger, and we do give him shit sometimes, because sometimes he posts some crazy things (e.g. his conversations with the woman from the porn site). Not really the best example of a well-integrated forum member the same age as bo_sox.

What I've noticed is that younger people tend to make their age very clear and then couple that with being an asshole, an idiot, or both. The best thing to do is to stay under the radar a bit, make your age less obvious, and fit in a little bit before everyone figures out that you're young and starts to look at you in a different light. Look at me, I'm the same age as bo_sox, and not the nicest of people by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not extremely full of myself, and I don't project my ignorance of the world outwards, and that leads to people not hating me as much.
