slyster, I'm reserving you a spot in the feature game, so it's impossible for you to get disqualified. The feature game will be non-anon or at least partially anon, any other games I start will be super-duper anon.

Okay, I touched base with Brian. We're looking at a start date of December 13th, 36 hour phases and a bet of 15 or 20. It'll be WTA, and very likely non-anon.

Again, If I get plenty of interest, I'll create additional games for just me, Brian will be in the feature game only, so keep the interest coming, getting a great response so far, should be great fun!!

Regarding the games, you know that I usually prefer Anon or semi-anon, as I like very much to try and guess who I'm playing with, but I have no problem playing a non-Anon game once in a while.

FYI - I'm in discussions with mod(s) and/or admin(s) to make the anonymous games into an official webDip tournament. I'd run those games similar to 2011's October Anonymous Blind Invitational, I'll keep you updated on what the verdict is. Here's a link to the ABI, for reference:

Looks like nothing will be decided tournament-wise before these games start, so don't count on anything in that regard, you'll have to join purely for the fun of it...

If it's an official webDip tournament, does that mean it has to last at least six months?

At the moment, however, this is not something I can afford to be interested in. And since this is the third time I come on this thread to resist these very flattering invitations, I'll give you guys a few of the reasons that prevent me from taking another game on my back:
1. I'm defending my doctoral thesis tomorrow and will have to work on the dissertation during the next 2 weeks before final submission
2. I'm teaching 2 courses next term, one of which is a high level class, the other a course in a field not my own. Lots of work ahead.
3. I have research I need to see progress if I'm to ever get a real position. More work ahead.
4. Christmas is coming and I have kids. That's just fun... but time consuming!

I hope you understand, now, that it's not because I'm being difficult about the possible roster.
I would only add to this that there are a few friendly games I've delayed for too long, and those seem more appealing to me at this point.

Good luck Cach. I remember when my wife went through that. It's never fun when your committee essentially has you by the sensitive parts. It was amusing (to me, not her) when one of them asked her to change the wording in her dissertation only to have another change it back (or anew). I can appreciate the balancing act w/ kids too (spousal support can never be overstated). I hope it goes smoothly.

Are you looking to go into academia or industry? If academia, any particular university or geographical area when you're done?

For now, I'm looking to work in Academia. I have split custody of my kids, so staying in Montreal (or thereabout) is essential. I have a shot at a position at the Université du Québec à Montréal in the Spring. I'll let you know how that goes. Otherwise, I'm not too sure what the rest of my story will be.
