Going on vacation, and have games open.... and no internet access while I am gone.
How do I leave, and let the game pause while someone is found to fillin?
I have just a couple that are worth pursuing! I have two where I am dominant, but just cannot finish the game.
What do I do? I'm sure I'm not the first has happened to. Thanks

Hypothetical question for y'all...
Is trying to browbeat a player in an anonymous ongoing live gunboat cheating by violating press rules or not? I'd love to hear the community's views on this.

What about adding the following functionality
"Survive with intact Nation" (it's not a win, but it's a SWIN). It's when you survive still having all of your home SCs.

President Clinton
I got to see the old guy speak today in support of Joe Donnelly (Indiana to-be Congressman I hope) and he hasn't lost much but, in his own words, he certainly has more yesterdays than tomorrows. My question is NOT political, keep that in mind, but I ask how much of an impact does an endorsement from such a political figure have on a race and should more politicians be looking to garner support from past Presidents?

Diplo-Topic: Recouping from a Stab
We all love a good stab, and we are all, admittedly, stabbers. Thus, you know everyone you play with is a lying bastard and a stabber. And yet, so many will never re-ally after a stab. Why? It's not like you *suddenly* found out Player X is a stabber, because we all are.

Just to Clear Things Up...
I hope you all understand that I am NOT a racist. Racism is an obsolete method of thinking. I am, by far, not obsolete. But if I say that certain types of people are better than other types of people, you all jump on me and call me silly names.
So quit it with the name calling. It's childish, guys.

"Don't listen to Santa, PE...

He just likes to antagonize and start fights under the false assumption that he actually has a working brain and a functioning morality... "

Oh my brain doesn't work now. Good one.

Or I am making a point about libertarians patronizing people who vote for the two major parties. A point I believe PE took on one level or another. To say the parties are the same is an ignorant statement. To say the parties don't speak to you, that is another case
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

And I think you're just picking a fight and trolling people along night after night at this point, SC...

You do nothing BUT antagonize...

And this is coming from *ME!*

Hell, at least I'll take out every once and a while and have some fun in a thread or play around with lists of books or movies or TV shows we like or whatever...

You're getting worse than Putin--

Who is also in or starting fights all the time, but at least, well, he's Putin, that's sort of his thing (and he's remarkably better at it, I might add, in almost every aspect than you are, so why not leave Putin's shtick alone and find one that doesn't involve you antagonizing people in every thread?)
well.. you are wrong, no shame in that...
unlike you, I kind of respect PE
>kind of

That's honestly better than I hoped. <3
Also +1 to Draugnar over the legislative complexity point. I still think elected officials should be held to their voting record (of course, and I doubt Draug disagrees), but one has to be careful in looking at the entire piece of legislation and why they voted the way they did to determine what, precisely, that record is. Had Obama, for instance, vetoed NDAA due to the indefinite detention provision, it would be egregiously irresponsible to say "Obama voted against NDAA, he's soft on defense!!" and one would have to look at any such comment with suspicion.

(In the reverse, we can say the same. If someone votes for something, they're voting for the whole thing. Until a line-item vote is installed [which would be a terrible idea and one I don't advocate, just bringing it up to make a point], a yes means a yes to everything and a no means a not-yes-to-everything.)

Yeah, it's a very good point by Draug.

My thoughts on the debate: the moderator was the worst I've seen; Biden won, though not by a ton; Biden was very obnoxious during the middle third of the debate.

That's all.
when someone is winning with an ideology you dislike they tend to seem obnoxious.

True, SC, but I was referring more to the amount that he interrupted, spoke out of turn, and smirked. I was worried that Romney was doing it a bit much the first time (he insisted on the last word when Obama went first, but didn't give it when he went first), but Biden did it far more than anyone I've ever seen. I'm sure it was a calculated risk, and it may have worked. Who knows? It certainly threw Ryan somewhat off kilter. The question will be how people react to it, and I don't know that. My overall impression: a moderate net positive for Democrats, even taking that into account.
It was obviously his and the democrats strategy. The first debate they put kid gloves on and Romney took advantage by doing his old chameleon routine and lying through his teeth. Now they are going to punch them in the teeth and I applaud them for that.

Probably so, yeah. I did think he turned the charm up a lot for the last third of the debate. Charm and emanating trustworthiness have always been Biden's strongest traits.

At this stage in the game, and I speak in the 21st century, records are ultimately meaningless. No matter how the congressman or senator votes, it will in some way help AND hinder his cause. The other side will bash the voter and the same side will praise the voter. That's basic party politics.

Regarding P.E.'s last comment, by voting yes, a voter is basically saying he is in complete support of whatever he is voting for and later by refuting it in part or in whole completely destroys the voter's credibility. You can recant a statement as much as you like, but the fact of the matter is, by retracting support of something, it is now your primary job to rebuild your credibility.

As a voter voting no to this legislation, you have opened yourself up to attack from the other side. They will hit every single point and you will have to defend yourself on every point. You just need to be prepared for that. Simple as that.

Now I don't classify myself with either party, because I feel that in doing so, you have in some way negated your ability to actually choose for yourself. I choose my candidates based off of the largest problems we have at the time as a country. Historically, when the economy was terrible (as it is now) the republicans were primarily the ones who were able to bring us out of economic crisis. Most liberals would comment on that and say "well they just make the rich richer and the poor poorer!!!" That's not entirely accurate. Yes, the wealthy somehow manage to gain more wealth, usually by not having to pay nearly as much in taxes as they should, but the poor (and middle class) ultimately stay the same. But in relative terms, it appears as though the poor are getting poorer, but its simply not the case.

Now I am going to briefly comment on the debate tonight.

Biden: I have a lot of respect for Biden, mainly because last election, he did his best to not just tear the shit out of Sarah Palin. But in the end, she did it to herself. This time around, however, Biden actually had to step up to the plate and take a few swings. There wasn't a whole lot that I liked about what Biden said this time around, mainly because he was too busy trying to smear Romney that, in my humble opinion, he forgot to talk about Obama and the Democrat plan for things. He spent a lot of time trying to get a word in edgewise and to a degree, I actually think he chickened out to the much younger Paul Ryan. Was it a good day for him? Not especially. Would I listen to him again in the future when there is no election going on? Sure.

Ryan: I liked his charisma. I liked his youthfulness. My main problem was that when he was asked a question, he simply would never divulge the specifics of any of their plans. He would be asked, "What do you plan to do with such and such problem?" and he would reply, "Well, we have a 5 point plan in place, that will get the job done."

........."what is the plan?"......."well, I think the bigger issue is what we are going to do about taking care of the problem, which we have a great 5 point plan for."

So far, most people that I've talked to say that he just doesn't have a clue what's going on. I actually disagree. He's playing a game, a very Republican game, that hides every part of their plan like its a corporate secret. He knows exactly what's going on, but he doesn't want to let it out for fear that the Democrats will usurp it and win the election, ultimately putting the Republican plans into place.

Simply put, its just a big game.

In my opinion, Obama is a fucking idiot. Romney is a wealthier fucking idiot (if you will pardon the language).

Now I need to head for bed, but if any of you comment on this that might require a response from me, just shoot me a pm so I can look back on it and respond.

@Favio - The point was that most legislation has both positive and negative things in it so sometimes you vote down something that includes a good line in it and other times you pass something despite a bad line item in it. The choices you have are to vote down the good, pass the bad, or be in dereliction of duty by not voting. At least that is the way your opponent will spin it in the ad campaign which you can continually respond.to.or you will never get your own.word out.

Although of course, Draug, things get much simpler in political climates like the present, where nothing ever passes both houses of Congress, so every vote really can be purely symbolic.

Semck: Why do you say the moderator was the worst? She really seemed to keep a firm grip on the flow of conversation (barring Biden's interruptions - he should def. have been warned at least) and I don't think either candidate can say they didn't get a chance to speak.

Every little case of someone feeling denied or persecuted =/= The Holocaust. You not getting your way and bemoaning it =/= The brutal destruction of Jewish businesses, language, culture, and the/ deaths of 6 million Jews. Why Do So Many Englishmen do this?
Since we finished the Austrian discuss without someone crying, here is an English opening based one.

I am curious to know why, in gunboats in particular, England opens into Skaggerak in Fall 1901. All that does is provoke a French invasion, from my experience

Why do people always choose the shittiest Austria opening?
In most of the Dip games I see on here, Austria seems to usually open with A Vie-Tri or the far worse A Vie to Bud. Why, why, why??? Why not send A Vie somewhere useful like Gal, Tyr, or even friggin Bohemia? If Austria is so worried about protecting it's home centers, why not do a Hedgehog or support themselves into Galicia? Austria has several dozen opening moves at it's disposal, and it makes me baffles me to see Austrians consistently using these.
