Going on vacation, and have games open.... and no internet access while I am gone.
How do I leave, and let the game pause while someone is found to fillin?
I have just a couple that are worth pursuing! I have two where I am dominant, but just cannot finish the game.
What do I do? I'm sure I'm not the first has happened to. Thanks

Hypothetical question for y'all...
Is trying to browbeat a player in an anonymous ongoing live gunboat cheating by violating press rules or not? I'd love to hear the community's views on this.

What about adding the following functionality
"Survive with intact Nation" (it's not a win, but it's a SWIN). It's when you survive still having all of your home SCs.

President Clinton
I got to see the old guy speak today in support of Joe Donnelly (Indiana to-be Congressman I hope) and he hasn't lost much but, in his own words, he certainly has more yesterdays than tomorrows. My question is NOT political, keep that in mind, but I ask how much of an impact does an endorsement from such a political figure have on a race and should more politicians be looking to garner support from past Presidents?

Diplo-Topic: Recouping from a Stab
We all love a good stab, and we are all, admittedly, stabbers. Thus, you know everyone you play with is a lying bastard and a stabber. And yet, so many will never re-ally after a stab. Why? It's not like you *suddenly* found out Player X is a stabber, because we all are.

Just to Clear Things Up...
I hope you all understand that I am NOT a racist. Racism is an obsolete method of thinking. I am, by far, not obsolete. But if I say that certain types of people are better than other types of people, you all jump on me and call me silly names.
So quit it with the name calling. It's childish, guys.

Does anyone else play World of Tanks? Any tips for a noob like me? My progress has been frustratingly slow and my kill/death ratio is pathetic. But it's an awesome game and I'm sticking with it.

Anti Gay-Marriage People...You Being "Silenced" =/= The Holocaust.
Every little case of someone feeling denied or persecuted =/= The Holocaust. You not getting your way and bemoaning it =/= The brutal destruction of Jewish businesses, language, culture, and the/ deaths of 6 million Jews. It is an INSULT To even draw the comparison, and appropriate the Worst Crime in Human History for YOUR own political ends...ESPECIALLY when Gays were killed with Jews as well. http://secular-europe-campaign.org/2012/10/uk-gay-marriage-nazis-and-the-disgrace-of-lord-carey/

I'm getting antsy for a new Science Fiction series. I'm hoping for something long and epic, that will keep my interest for some time. I've read Dune, almost everything by Asimov, Card, Clarke, and Dick. Recommendations?

Why Do So Many Englishmen do this?
Since we finished the Austrian discuss without someone crying, here is an English opening based one.

I am curious to know why, in gunboats in particular, England opens into Skaggerak in Fall 1901. All that does is provoke a French invasion, from my experience
Dominant position on Sweden, sets up for English control of Scandinavia which is typically a strong indicator of a good English game. It's also a gamble, banking on the French leaving you alone to do something else... but my experience is that you don't typically get this opportunity.

I know that hows it works in theory, but it just never works
Zmaj (215 D(B))

It usually works for me. You don't do it only if Germany moves the Kiel fleet to Holland. As a rule, you get a couple of SCs in Scandinavia, quite enough to stop any French attempt.

not when Russia builds in St. Petersburg, I have NEVER had luck with this opening. France always sees the chance, and attacks

I don't go to Ska as England at least until 1902 (and I don't recall seeing someone else doing it). But if your trust in France is not betrayed, that can be a powerful opening, especially if Germany doesn't do too well and can't push your next fleet build out of North Sea. But that's a very particular circumstance. There is a much better event that has actually happened to me: neither F or G went for Belgium in S1901 and I got it for free!

I tend to follow Jesus' philsophy on the issue

Army to norway with a fleet kept back to defend against france is better imho; even if army norway goes to finland - the key to winning any scandanavian war...

Ska is a poor second - though both leave england with one unit not able to defend against france - and the army is harder to get back, a fleet in norway plus army in finland gives two into either sweden or stp, while ska gives two into sweden or denmark (but from north sea OR norway, weaker imho)

Two units away from home is just silly; that said, i'm talking about full press expierence.
Zmaj (215 D(B))
11 Oct 12 UTC
England opening chances look very similar to Italy - it's not unusual to spend the first three or four years with 4 or even 3 units lurking in the north, waiting for their chance. But I love the possibilities, they're enormous. No other power has so much strategic space, I believe. England might be my favorite country after France.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
11 Oct 12 UTC
orathaic, the same is even more true in gunboat. France will see you have no defense (most I have seen build F Edi to follow it up(?????), and, unless Germany decided to open into Burgundy, he will be attacking you. Hell, he may try to take Liverpool for a quick build even if Germany attacks
Zmaj (215 D(B))

And, in autumn 1902, France uses his two fleets to support move to English Channel about 90% of the time. He almost never goes for Liverpool, because he perceives Belgium to be strategically crucial, while it's easy to lose Liverpool.

11 Oct 12 UTC
huh, must be something to do with the Frances I have played, because they almost always go for Liverpool (of course I do bounce them in the Channel)
France has never taken lvp from me when I've moved to Ska in F01, though he's always been able to. I haven't played many games as England, though, and I think I prefer southern openings more anyway, provided you have German cooperation.

I like to open that way but if Russia leaves me without forcing a support into Norway, I generally go to Barents. Even if Russia convoys into Wales by the next fall, you have a build coming from Sweden and maybe a second from St. Pete or Denmark if you're lucky.

@FD: what if italy has opened to piedmont??
Fortress Door (1837 D)
11 Oct 12 UTC
I didn't think of that, but that happens very rarely, and is hardly ever (from my games) followed up with the move to Mar)
orathaic (1009 D(B))
11 Oct 12 UTC
the move to mar is just not needed, it is an attempt to delay french builds and prevent mars from being available to build. but if french players start leaving mar open italians will eventually start taking mar.

I think it is a good opening for italy if he wants france to be weak, both england and germany can take advantage, and italy gets several years where he doesn't have to worry so much about france.

back-fire is where france immediately invades, but that could just be an unrelated phenomenon. Meanwhile Italy doesn't usually get much use out of that army.
Fortress Door (1837 D)

That's a valid point. I did not consider that. I will now phrase my complain differently:

if no one else is moving on France, you should not open to Ska in 1901

@FD - I think British Dental Hygiene is *extremely* important to diplomacy. Negotiating with a chap when the dim green cloud of foulness is emanating from his/her oral cavity is disconcerting, to say the least.

So...On Topic...I like the SKA move as a "I'm feeling a ittle naughty..." type opening in which, as opposed to opening yourself up to a French attack, you are instead saying to France..."Pllleeeeeaase go south and let me be a pest in the north!....and, if your don't mind, I like petunia's at my funeral..."

Fortress. This opening is amazing! I use it almost all the time! It almost always gets me 5-7 centres by 1902.

and it never works for me, I never get any luck with it. I just did that in a gunboat and got my ass kicked :(

Why do people always choose the shittiest Austria opening?
In most of the Dip games I see on here, Austria seems to usually open with A Vie-Tri or the far worse A Vie to Bud. Why, why, why??? Why not send A Vie somewhere useful like Gal, Tyr, or even friggin Bohemia? If Austria is so worried about protecting it's home centers, why not do a Hedgehog or support themselves into Galicia? Austria has several dozen opening moves at it's disposal, and it makes me baffles me to see Austrians consistently using these.

This is a thread for discussing how boring the Reinheitsgebot has made German beer. No variety whatsoever (would you like Lager or Lager?). No unique flavors. Americans, Belgians, and English all put Germany to shame these days.
