Are the 5 of you all friends in real life or something?

Is this a group of church friends? Welcome to the community!

I have a habit of joining new-player games to make sure people get off on the right foot (hence my always low pointage.) I'm a bit busy at the moment, but if you've not found someone by Sunday let me know.

Also, it may not be a good idea to share future game passwords. That way you can filter players into your game in case you're looking for a specific skill level. Kind of defeats the purpose if you post it here. =)
I don't guess a 1700-point atheist is welcome. lol.

it's good, I don't have time for another game anyway. bonne chance in finding players to round it out!

@yebellz
yes, we are, but we don't plan on having any live discussions, if that's what you're wondering.

@GeoFram
we just wanted to make sure that we all had time to get in the same game before it filled up (we're not on much). seems kinda pointless, though!

@Mr.President
no, i guess you weren't what we had in mind, but if no one has joined by start time, feel free. atheist, you say?

Was that really necessary Eden?

yebellz brings up a good point. groups of real-life friends usually become a strong backbone of this community, but whilst you and your friends are starting out, take extra precautions to make sure you aren't accidentally biasing your game.

Some players here call it metagaming, but I'm more talking about plainly trying to remove the real-life out of your online games. You'll have much more fun if you treat each other with the same indifference as the rest of the community when in game-mode.

Eventually you'll come to respect that barrier so much that talking to RL friends about games could never be considered "metagaming" and you were smart in taking it slow, particularly with the first game being NOT anonymous.

And if anyone attacks you for playing with RL friends and you have come to respect the need for unbiased games, ignore them, they're just angry they have no friends to play with.

@JakeBob

I see the reason for posting the pw now, not quite pointless if someone PMs you wanting to join and you're not available to give it to them in time. At least having the password means they'll have come here to read a bit of background regarding the game!

In regards to live discussions, don't head the opposite way and refuse to talk amongst yourselves about diplomacy. That would be awful and lead to bored friends quitting. I play with and without several RL friends here. We like to talk about all the games any of us are in, but we've always respected the rules, and avoided discussion around anonymous games. The intimacy of being able to discuss the happening of a game in person are exciting, you just have to make sure to avoid allying or NOT-allying because of that relationship. It's a fine line, and many struggle to walk on it, but the longer and more invested in the community you and your friends get, the easier it comes.

Also, if you find more RL friends and all have laptops, webDip makes a great alternative to the board game. Wanting to do that is actually how we discovered the site. It doesn't replace the old school, but it definitely adds a very cool twist for all of us that grew up around technology. We'd sit in the apartment typing furiously with global chat being replaced by yelling and laughing.
It was a friendly joke, Geofram. =P Though I guess I should watch myself anyway with all the out-and-out hostility on the forum.

@Jake: Lemme know if you can't fill it, I'd be happy to help y'all get a game going. And yes, indeedy, not a believer, but I didn't mean anything polarizing by it, just a lighthearted observation since it was apparently a church group. I wish my youth group would have gotten into Diplomacy back when I was there. Didn't have a lot of strategy types. =P

After our world game earlier this year, I can never tell with you!

Also, it may not be a church group, I only hypothesized that from the name of the game.

Hey guys, I thought I'd jump in to help you fill the game. Hope thats alright. I'm a bit of a newb myself, trying to get all the experience I can get.

@Jake: tell me though, how come all those resigns to be?

I don't think he understands that resigns are bad, perhaps.

His 3 resigns are all in live games.

@mr B

i kinda know that resigns are bad, but i have time limits on the comp, so it took me three games to figure out that i couldn't fit a live game into that space of time ;P too bad.

@Everyone else:

please, one more person. feel free to join.

Bump.
I'm keeping an eye out. If you still don't have a player by Saturday night I'll fill it. I want to let the others that might want a shot at it have their opening since I don't fit the point requirements.

that awkward moment..
I see a lot of people saying that you should always talk with everyone, even your enemies. My question is what exactly should you be talking to them about? IE: Rite off the bat you (Germany) ally with England against France. there is plenty to talk about with England and the rest of the world, but what about France?
(note: this scenario[While happening in many games all the time] is not currently occurring involving myself or anyone that i know])

I will be gone on vacation starting Thursday, 6/9 for 10 days. I won't have access to the Internet so I need a sub. I'm only in one game and it is 24 hours per phase. I will probably die very soon. PM me if you can sub. Thanks.

The game ID is 59376 (I think). I am France and on the last turn I attempted to convoy an army from Picardy to North Africa. The unit in North Africa at the time successfuly moved to Tunis, and neither fleet was disloged. continued on post...

Log into Game Help
I am at a business conference and have told everyone about on-line diplomacy, and have gotten 7 players. I set up an anonymous private game, but three players got stuck in a meeting and could not log-in in time and can not join. The game is still in the first spring move. Since I created it, is there any way or anything I can do to allow these players to join the game?
Thanks in advance
