that awkward moment..
I see a lot of people saying that you should always talk with everyone, even your enemies. My question is what exactly should you be talking to them about? IE: Rite off the bat you (Germany) ally with England against France. there is plenty to talk about with England and the rest of the world, but what about France?
(note: this scenario[While happening in many games all the time] is not currently occurring involving myself or anyone that i know])

You're Stranded On The Island of Fours...
...and you'll be there a while.

Luckily, you can ahve with you four of whatever kind of thing you want--four pieces of music--operas, symphonies, and to be fair to modern music, albums wioth multiple songs--four things to read, four kinds of food that will infinitely replenish, four things to drink...so, what do you bring to The Island of Fours?

And yes you can, abgemacht.

If I somehow had a TV with me...

4 FOR FILMS:
-1996 Hamlet with Kenneth Branagh, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Kate Winslet
-Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
-Amadeus
-The Dark Knight

4 FOR TV:
-Star Trek TOS "The City on the Edge of Forever"
-Star Trek TNG "All Good Things..." (Since "The Best of Both Worlds" is a 2-parter)
-House, Season 3 "Son of Coma Guy" (Oh my...watch it...)
-Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes Series, "The Sign of Four" (Haven't seen Brett's version, but I'm sure it's great like the rest of his Holmes work, and here's the chance to watch it! :D Plus, at feature-length, more Holmes for my pick)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

Oh, I LOVE Paradise Lost! :D

After Hamlet and maybe Macbeth, it's the single work of literature I reference the most in my writing (Shakespeare, Nietzsche, and Milton are my Dynamic Trio of Making Allusions in my English classes...and in life, really...Homer's the #4, but nowhere near as close as those three.)

But yeah, I'd love to have it--great poetry, and beyond that, it'd make me feel like Satan, cast out on that Island...and as Satan is AWESOME in that work (seriously, that may be the one time I'd root for HIM over any kind of God, he seems far more interesting and even more caring than God in the work; he actually cares when his men are beaten back in the War on Heaven, when God learns there's a possiblity Man might fall, he's jsut "Oh well...shit happens, I guess.")
Music:
"Didgeridoo" - Aphex Twin
"In Search of Sunrise 2" - DJ Tiesto
"Telephone" -Lady Gaga (Expect that? haha)
"Complete works of Bach" - Nice FLAC I have ^_^

Books:
El Comedio
Dragonlance Series (I would need the escapism)
Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Wife's copy for the intoxicating smell)
Raptor Red (Extreme Nostalgia for me)

Food:
Pizza
Salad
Banana
Pumpernickel

Drinks:
Dr. Pepper
Virgils Root Beer
Oolong Tea
Pero
@Krellin Is that to eat or drink? Because the Music/Book would bore the shit out of me haha

Music

-Mozart Clarinet Concerto
-Vivaldi the Four Seasons
and A Tribe Called Quest the Low End Theory

Films

yeah and okay 4 woman gotta put in my 2 cents

obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Jun 11 UTC
I'd feel compelled to give my choice for 4 women...

Except, well, I generally don't care all that much about famous women, no matter how technically hot they are--*I'M* never going to be commander of the fleet, so why gaze at the ships whistfully?

(And I gotta ask, thucy--most of those choices were cool, but...why bring the Bible? I mean, if you're stranded on an island, I'd think god either A. knows where you are and wants you to stay there for some reason or B. doesn't really care, so why bring his bestseller, eitehr he's a jerk or he wants you to WORK, not read darnit!) :p
Thucydides (864 D(B))
07 Jun 11 UTC
nothing to do with god lol. i like a lot of its books and would want to read them. notice kjv was my choice - no other would do.

the poetry in it is unparalled in my opinion. in fact if i could only take one of its books i would do with ecclesiastes

or isaiah maybe "for all flesh is as grass"

yeah nothing to do with religious purposes
Thucydides (864 D(B))
07 Jun 11 UTC
might also trade out lord of flies for a history book - maybe columbia's history of the world
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Jun 11 UTC
WOW.

That is quite honestly the first time I've ever heard someone want to read a Bible just becasue they think it's good literature--and good poetry at that--and not for any religious reasons.

I disagree with you--there's a couple of good uses of langauge, I'll grant you, but the plot holes really just ruin it for me, Genesis alone has so many problems, hence my liking "Paradise Lost" so much, Jesus in there actually SAYS "Uh, Dad? You think maybe you should STOP this total and obvious threat to all of Creation pre-emptively?" but I digress--but an interesting choice nonetheless. :)
Mafialligator (239 D)
07 Jun 11 UTC
The bible is fascinating, but I don't know if I'd call it good literature. And I'm an avowed atheist.

Anyway, Music
Elephant, by the White Stripes
Avenue Q soundtrack, to remind me that being stuck on a desert island with a bunch of crap is only for now.
Set Yourself On Fire by Stars, which is kind of a Montreal thing, no one outside montreal really knows them, which is a shame.
And uhhh...hmmm, It'd have to be a Beethoven I'd go with his 6th, though I'd lament horribly leaving behind The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky.

Books:
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller - it will always be my favourite.
The Hitchhikers Guide by Douglas Adams - I'd need a laugh
St. Urbain's Horseman by Mordecai Richler - A great book, but it's another Montreal thing.
And The Clean House and Other Plays by Sarah Ruhl

Food.
A Moussaka
Cioppino (which actually comes from San Francisco)
Brie cheese and crackers
Chocolate caramel pecan cheesecake

Drink
Vodka Martini's straight up, with Olives
A very nice Merlot
Home made iced tea
Chocolate milk shakes

Films
The Extended Lord of the Rings Trilogy - I'll be there a while
The Big Lebowski
Wallace and Gromit the Curse of the Were Rabbit
A Fish Called Wanda

Note these are not necessarily my favourites, but they're the ones with the most rewatch/relisten/reconsume value. For instance my favourite movie is Rear Window, but I find a lot of the impact and the suspense is gone once you've seen it a few times.

I don't think I'd have anything else to say on a topic that anyone would care to read.
Mafialligator (239 D)
07 Jun 11 UTC
Though I suppose I'd have to forfeit A Fish Called Wanda in order to bring along a naughty movie to compensate for the fact that I declined to choose any pleasurable company for this extended stay in isolation.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
07 Jun 11 UTC
Yeah the "plot holes" don't bother me because i dont/wouldnt read it as a novel.

i would read it book by book in isolation. its the ideas expressed and the timeless humanity of the bible that i like about it. and the kjv language is beautiful i dont care what you think.

top that off with the fact that choice parts actually do have some legit life advice and i'd say its a good one to have. a cultural touchstone at least as much as the complete works of shakespeare. but anyway.
@ Thucy - All good selections. Like me I think you meant to select a nice range. Gotta have variety and I think you did a solid job covering all the bases.
ulytau (541 D)
07 Jun 11 UTC
Drink
Aloe vera green tea (Robinson needs you, Nestea)
Kofola (from tank, not bottled)
Banana shake (MILK!!!)
Amundsen vodka (for happy evenings)

Food
Big King XXL (with variable amount of Xs)
Pear (LOLWUT style)
Pork goulash with dumplings (MANY dumplings)
Straciatella yoghurt (or some soup)

Music (this section NEED MOAR PYLONS, eh space)
Rok Psa - Hugo Toxxx (do not try to understand)
The Essential Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (cheating, suckers)
Vyznanie - Marika Gombitová (cheating a little less)
Symphonie No. 9 - Antonín Dvořák (hope I made you Yankees happy)

Books
Mahabharata (Krishna Dharma translation, plox)
String Theory and M-Theory: A Modern Introduction - Katrin and Melanie Becker and John Schwarz (empty island is a great place for learning awe-inspiring stuff)
Heimwerken. Do it yourself - Thomas Pochert (including how to actually do stuff. I'll make myself some rake so that no gun-totting nut may invade my island)
Magorova summa - Ivan Martin Jirous (might as well take some poetry with me)

Films
Spirited Away (kids will love it)
Knockin' On Heaven's Door (embracing doom will be easier)
Team America: World Police (exploding Michael Moore? Yes, please)
Lovers of the Arctic Circle (I'm out of unfunny comments)

And since I'm a modest guy, I'll settle for only one girl, the best one, my girlfriend! Once I manage to build a working vessel, I'll visit Durden's island, women should have some sort of protector and with him dying of exhaustion... ;)

Mafialligator (239 D)

@ Thucy - For Stockholm to set in you actually need to like, threaten and torture people. Also diuretics aren't as bad as people think. There's still more fluid in a diuretic than you lose due to it's diuretic properties.
