JDip or similar simulation program
I was wondering if anyone was having issues running JDip on Windows 7

Also, are there any other simulation programs out there to run moves through?

New to webdiplomacy (facebook phpdiplomacy-regular): Joined Games that seem to be gone?
Greetings,

i have been playing phpdipl on facebook for quite a while, which is lots of fun, and now would like to try the "real thing" here. So i created an account and joined three new, open games - one classic, one ancient med, and one world map ...

How do you leave the game?
I totally messed up on one game, and I don't feel like playing that one.
Well, I saw some people leaving aside getting wiped out of the map, and I want to know how. Pls answer

You don't leave a game.
Come on mate, think how you'd feel if the weaker players just left a game you were in!

1. Go to the FAQ
2. Follow the link to kestas' paypal account
3. Make a donation
4. Depending on the size of the donation, he may or may not be willing to remove you from your game
5. Regardless, be ready to pay for ye sins after leaving the game

or u be as annoying as physically possible and create as much chaos and havoc with your last unit as possible. This one time I survived 4 years with 1 unit as England, jumping from Scandanvia down to Iberia. good fun...

^^ Ideally you negotiate and move yourself into a position such that neither side wants to attack you, and thus you may yet survive

To leave a game you just stop playing. But, you really mess up the game for everyone else by leaving a void that some can exploit on others do not.

And, all is never lost until your last unit and home center is gone. At the least you can try to exact revenge on those that done you wrong.

Try moving towards the stalemate line so that your unit is more valuable

"I totally messed up on one game, and I don't feel like playing that one."

That is not an attitude that will make you popular on this site. Players resigning games can ruin the game for the other players. I would not want to play a game with you, if that really is your attitude. But since you are new perhaps you haven't thought it through properly. But think about it... what would it be like if every player had that attitude?

"Well, I saw some people leaving aside getting wiped out of the map, and I want to know how. Pls answer"

I don't understand what you mean? Could rephrase the question?

To answer your actual question, people get labeled as "left" when they haven't entered orders for two phases. But to do so is incredibly poor form, and I wouldn't want to play with anyone who would ever do that.
figlesquidge (2131 D)

^^Recon you do spyman. He wants to know how he leaves a game before his nation has been killed.

But yeh, the answer if you don't: fight on, you're not out until all your units are gone!

My appologies if this has been suggested before, but here is an idea for dealing with players who abandon games:

Create a flag in the players' profiles listed as "On Probation" and shows "Yes" when they abandon their country? Also create a criteria for new games that is "Allow players on probation"? If "No" is selected for that criteria, players on probation may not join the game, even the same game that they just left.

The length of the probation needs to vary. For example, it can be 2 weeks for the first offense, 1 month for the second offense, 2 months for the third, all the way to a year for Double Secret Probation. While on probation, they can only join or create games that do not allow probationary players. They are not removed from any other games they are currently playing, though.

Once the probationary period is over, the "On Probation" flag in their profile changes back to "No" and the player may join any game. Thus, those players who abandon games still have an opportunity to play, but it will probably be with other players who have abandoned games until they have "done their time".

The joy of editing on the fly. My third paragraph should read as such:

The length of the probation needs to vary. For example, it can be 2 weeks for the first offense, 1 month for the second offense, 2 months for the third, all the way to a year for Double Secret Probation. While on probation, they can only join or create games that allow probationary players. They are not removed from any other games they are currently playing, though.

I feel your pain. Sometimes when thing go horribly wrong (especially when due to misorders) the game can stop seeming fun. And some games drag on for months. But we have to take the good with the bad because when thing go right it feels so good.

We gotta do something about players dropping
There is nothing more annoying than playing a 2 day deadline with 6 players who are on the ball, and then one guy who decides to drop the game. There has to be a bigger penalty for dropping out of games. I think it's really poor form to drop a game without good reason, so maybe there should be a way to just drop a game and take the penalty.

Favorite Classic Territory?
Some territories are just more fun to own than others, be it for strategic value or "nyah nyah" effect on other players. I love Serbia, since it gives you an SC and can impact so many crucial Balkan provinces without being touched by the many navies swarming about the Med and Black Sea. Anyone else have sentimental favorites?

There's been a lot of talk about self-moderated forums lately.
And that's fine. I'm at peace with idea. But since we are supposed to moderate ourselves, I'd like this forum to consider a proposal or two.

The most important scifi story every told.
http://www.space.com/common/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=27719 What do you think is the most important scifi story every told? I'm assuming this means the impact on society, not personal favorate, best, or most realistic. I'd have to say Star Trek. The 1960s series not only spawned new series and several movies, inspired many scientist and enginers and innovators, and affected peoples veiws of the world.
