Excellent! I'm not far from downtown Nashville, its got a great restaurant scene and you will have plenty of options for bars too. Depending on where you're staying, I'll break it down by neighborhood.
DOWNTOWN:
- Honky tonk bars and tourists. No good restaurants, lots of live music, kind of smells on the weekend. If you want to line dance, go to Wildhorse. If you're there during the day, there's plenty to see - Country Music Hall of Fame is a must, Johnny Cash Museum is OK if you're bored, Frist Museum has world class art exhibits. Just walking around during the day is a lot of fun, live music starts around lunch just about everywhere. Best bar is Flying Saucer, which is further up Broadway by the Frist Museum and the train station. Decent food too.
THE GULCH
- Trendy, up and coming neighborhood on the other side of the train tracks from downtown. Decent restaurants, a few good bars (Bar Louie is excellent), good live music. The Station Inn is a legendary venue and has live performances every night. Walkable from downtown or there's a free shuttle.
GERMANTOWN
- Neighborhood north of downtown. Excellent food and bars, not a lot of tourist attractions. Great architecture and nice small, local shops.
MIDTOWN
- Division St. by Vanderbilt University. Great food and bars, but crazy busy on Fri/Sat nights. Hattie B's has the best hot chicken in the city. Its like regular chicken, but its really fucking hot. Worth a try if you don't mind the shits. Noshville is a good deli/restaurant, but there are plenty of bars for a Friday night. Only a few miles from downtown.
HILLSBORO VILLAGE
- Further down 21st, more laid back than midtown, and has some great restaurants and the best dive bar in Nashville, the Villager, where smoking inside is still legal. Pancake Pantry is good for breakfast, be prepared for a wait. Jackson's is a great local restaurant, same with Bosco's and Cabana. Hot and Cold has great ice cream and popsicles, and there's some good shops. Not a lot of live music.
EAST NASHVILLE
- If you venture across the river, stick to the Five Points neighborhood, which is hipster central. East Nashville in general has some great little restaurants, trendier than most areas, and Red Door is a good local bar. Five Points Pizza has some of the best pizza in the city, and Pharmacy Burger is the best burger place in Nashville with excellent beer. Highly recommended if you are feeling adventurous.
STUFF TO DO:
Centennial Park is off West End down Broadway. The best/biggest park in the city, good for a walk, its got a scale replica of the Parthenon. Sweetwater is a great dive bar, the Black Keys filmed their video for "Gold on the Ceiling" there, and Hog Heaven BBQ is right next door.
Plenty of live music. If you want to see a concert, check out Exit/In, Mercy Lounge, or Marathon Music Works. The Nashville Scene has all the concert listings, its our local alt newsweekly and you can get it anywhere or find it online.
