Pop quiz (test on media performance)
Now that the Arizona legislation has been vetoed and the issue is gone, I'm curious.

Please -- in your own words, and *without reading or re-reading any sources,* state what you think the recent controversial Arizona legislation said.

Tactical Advice
Hey, all. I was wondering if someone would be willing to provide some tactical advice. I am new to the game and am still unsure about some of the rules. I am playing England and am engaged in a struggle for Scandinavia with Russia. How do I avoid a stalemate up North? Russia has a strong alliance with Austria, and I France.

On the subject of distance running...
I'm running a 10k later this spring. My best recent 5 mile time is 35:08, and my best 6 mile time is sub-42 minutes. What is a good time to make my goal, and are these good times for an amateur? I don't want to embarrass myself.

How do you view the role of government?
This is a survey, not (yet) a debate thread. bo's thread about Arizona and the responses therein got me thinking about the question, and I don't think we've explicitly discussed it here in a while. I want to start out just getting answers to the question and then we can argue about them all we want (as is webDip tradition).

Well today was interesting
Normally I find the news on main websites pretty stupid (what celebrities hooked up today, etc), but I was pretty intrigued by the battery-less flashlight, the knife attack in China, and Russia trying to start a war.

Are countries 100% randomly assorted?
Is the distribution of which empire one starts of with entirely random or is it influenced in any way? I've checked my game history and I've been assorted Austria on 8 of 15 occasions and am getting slightly bored of it.

Better clarify. I had the pleasure of sitting around when my dad was taking lessons from Lenny Breau and Ted Greene. It's just now, all these years later, that I am coming to appreciate the single-note soloing that Greene mastered. And Lenny...man, he could fingerpick like no one's business. But they weren't rock.

You can't possibly mean Jimmy Page as #1 -- you probably mean Jimi as in Jimi Hendrix.

1. Jimi Hendrix
1. Eric Clapton
3. Carlos Santana
4. Jimmy Page
5. Frank Zappa
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))

In no particular rock order...Jerry Garcia, Duane Allman, George Harrison, Mick Taylor, Jimmy Page, Robbie Robertson, Bob Mould, Neil Young. Hendrix was in his own class.

Yes, I can't count as well as I don't play Gunboat.

Jesus Christ! What is wrong with you people...........Eric Clapton? Turgid soulless overblown shit.
May I suggest you check out a "real" guitarist like Gary Duncan from Quicksilver Messenger Service or maybe Steven Stills of Crosby Stills and Nash. Can't disagree with Zappa, a very fine musician. Also Peter Greene from Fleetwood Mac must be up amongst the greats.

Blind Melon Chitlin was amazing in his short span.

I thought Cipolina was the primary guitarist from QMS. Regardless, that psychedelic San Fran scene spawned several standouts. Jorma Kaukonen. Many others.

Are we talking raw guitar skill, or guitar skill + coolness of music. If the former, this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY7GnAq6Znw

Unfortunately, his songwriting is abysmal, so for the latter, in no particular order:
Jimmy Page
Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton
George Harrison
Jack White
Orka (785 D)

I think Adrian was the guitarist. Dave was the rhythm guy.
ulytau (541 D)

No, Dave Murray has been the unquestioned lead guitar of Irons since the 70s. Steve rather kicked out both Sullivan and Rance than to not have Dave in the band. Adrian always did more songwriting though.

I see was supposed to list five guitarists. After the two I list above there are a lot of great guitar players. I have to pick three more so I'll say...
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Angus Young
John Frusciante

I think Kim Simmonds from Savoy Brown is worth noting. Other favs: Santana, Slash, Lowell George, David Gilmour.

Hamilton-
Really? I thought Jerry Garcia was pushing it, but Neil Young, really? BEST GUITARISTS?... Neil Young. Have you ever heard one of his 2-note solos? It goes like this: 1-2-11-2--1-222-11-2-111-222-1-2-11-222. That's about the best he can do off the cuff. Neil Young wins the BEST DELUSION category.

@Hamilton Brian. Yes Jorma! How could I have missed him? A true giant. Yes JC is often considered to be the "main" guitarist in QMS but in my humble opinion Gary Duncan was woefully under rated.
