IT's a bad bad thing and you don't want to do a bad bad thing. It means they went away from the game and missed two turns in a row, screwing everyone over and altering the game in ways indescribable. Leaving games that way is frowned upon and will get you a reputation as a quitter. No one from the elite will ever consider playing with you, and you will have to where a scarlet letter Q forever.

seriously, rather than quit just try to screw somebody over. It's fun.

If you are going to quit, make sure you visit the board every day but don't do anything so it will take several extra phases for it to happen.

@doomsday, why do you want to quit? Did a former ally stab you? Did you get ganged up on at the beginning of the game and its just no fun going out first? Did you think you were in for a draw and at the last minute everyone on the board decided to split your potential points amongst themselves?

All of these have happened to me and every other player posting here. Look at the profiles of the people telling you not to quit. Almost 900 games between us and only 2 resigns (and in fairness, those were Bosox and he didn't actually tell you to not quit, but also in fairness out of 360 games he played, to only have 2 resigns is still phenomenal)

So don't become known as a quitter. It will keep you out of games with the really good players who will actually look at your record before playing with you. Of course they're the ones who'll make you want to quit, by doing the things I described, but you have to look at that as a part of the game and just have fun with it.

We need a 'leave' button.

I am currently in games where people are employing Mapu's tactic. Visiting the board, not entering any moves. Phases take forever and they're not getting kicked out. Much worse than CD, at least in CD you get replacements, and on the whole, replacement players are often pretty experienced and decent.

If we could just have a leave button, so many more positions could be filled without an NMR ever occurring.

Of course, we'd have to make it more expensive to leave, and more cheap to take over, but we've been wanting to do that anyway.

Visiting a board shouldn't equate to not missing a phase. To NMRs should cd your punk ass. Regardless of how often you visit.

But maybe you want to issue all holds. Unless we start with a "Select Order" on each drop down and require the player to enter "hold" (which goes against the boardgame's rule book)

A very long time ago I suggest all orders begin "blank" and holds need to be selected. This would allow the Adjudicator to differentiate between all-hold and NMR.

But that is against the boardgame rules which say any missing orders are to be assumed all holds.

You know, there are so many good suggestions floating around to address this issue, and I agree with most of the. Proxy orders for CDs, higher fee to CD, lower fee to take over, etc etc. Still, we all know the bottleneck is the actual development.

I'm starting to feel a bit demotivated to suggest improvements to the site really. The dev forum is like a big echo room. If we can't even get clear-cut improvements from VDip to run on here, how can we ever expect to make other improvements which require actual new coding?

By the by, I'd be more than willing to donate to get more professional support on this, rather than the volunteering currently. I understand this is legally complicated, but it might be worth addressing.

It is to my great shame that my record shows 9 resigns. They are a stain upon my soul that burns to this day. Unfortunately, also unavoidable at the time, and not done by choice.

Do not leave a game, you will feel a lesser man for it.

It isn't really worth addressing because of the copyright issues of the game. That said, getting the clear improvement at VDip implemented is very much worth trying to figure out how.
