Bugs
Anyone that can say if there is actually a special email or place that one should contact when there are bugs in your games? I have tried to get hold of this through the Help sight and is then directed to SourceForge.net, but that is not so easy to find out there how to post problems on specific games. Anyone that can give me a clue? Thanks.

The board game
How many of you actually have it?
I have the original version with the special Cavalry unit to accompany Armies and Fleets.

I don't, but I used to play with some friends in middle school and one of them had the board.

Cool. I was looking at picking one up for myself for Christmas, thought it would be cool to grab one of the older versions off eBay. I assume any updates were to looks only.
I got it for last Christmas :)
I bought mine about 20 years ago.

I have two versions
1) 90's era, US edition, the one with metal pieces (that look like Monopoly's battleship and cannon tokens)
2) Vintage 60's, Canadian edition, with wooden pieces
Jamiet99uk (873 D)

I have it, my version was produced in the 1980s and has plastic pieces.

I have it. I got it new in the US in I think 2008 (possibly 2007).

I must have got mine around 15 years ago when I was really too young to appreciate it. Have played it twice since then, and one of those even had all 7 players (for the first couple of hours anyway). It has only the finest plastic pieces and shares the same colour scheme as this site, and has a really attractive box design :p.
I have several, 90s version with pretty mettalics, from when I started playing. My local department store bought a whole bunch to cash in on the Catan craze, but of course Dip didnt sell as well. I ended picking up half a dozen at 10€ a box. Niiiice.

It's been years since it has seen any use, but I have a copy I bought in 1979 or 1980 (wooden pieces).

I have the crappy new version with cardboard cutouts. Is wood REALLY that expensive?

It might be neat to make my own board. Shouldn't be that difficult.

It's only $25. Honestly, I have a hard time recommending any board game that comes with cardboard pieces.

Wooden pieces and a sturdy box. Sad enough that it's never been played, it's also lost in the attic. Last seen about ten years ago. Maybe next time we move . . .

I have one, got it for my birthday in '89. Plastic pieces - armies are stars, fleets are anchors. I played a fair amount in middle and high school, sometimes even with seven players. I mostly played with girls, which was lots of fun. Last time I played on the board I stabbed my wife and she was very, very upset. I tried to explain that I wasn't lying to my wife, I was lying to the prime minister of France. That argument did NOT fly.

I love that woman like crazy, so I stopped playing. Until I found Webdip. Y'all are a bit less sensitive.
Hahaha, great story! I've seen very close friends become very frosty because of Dip. Nowadays, I only play FTF with carefully handpicked players.

Yes, I remember that when I bought it a few years ago, the salesman warned me this game could make me lose friends. Luckily my friends are a bunch of assholes too.
Some great anecdotes here! Being sadly long in the tooth, I did and perhaps still do have a 1960s or early 70s first edition, one of a batch of I think 500 self produced by the Calhamer deity himself. A topographical board and very stylish wooden pieces, painted white for the Russians, black for Germans, red for Austrians, green for Italians, French light blue, the Brits being a nice shade of navy blue. I imported it here to the UK from the USA and still remember the thrill of opening the package. Had a number of plays (and acquired a number of later versions as siblings, none of which match up to the original) until all being assigned during a house re-org to the back of the attic, where hopefully they still lie. I imagine the first edition may be worth something now, though I would be most reluctant to part with it. Yes, certainly brings back memories, from the early days of wargaming involving giants like Calhamer and Featherstone.
Postscript: does anyone here happen to know the full story of the Northern Ireland player who played Dip by snail mail back during the IRA bombing campaign in mainland England? If not apocryphal, it appears that the authorities intercepted a letter in which he appeared to be plotting to "attack England". Apparently he was held for some time in an internment camp until the game could be successfully explained to the powers that be. Never been able to verify the story or find out who it was, but hope there are some copies of Dip to play with the other inmates when I wind up in Guantanamo.

Hey Putin, MAN UP
I saw noted sex advice columnist Dan Savage speak tonight in Madison and he used the terms "gay" and "homosexual" interchangeably. Since we've all been made PAINFULLY aware that the term "homosexual" is an outdated and disparaging epithet, perhaps Putin can explain to us all why he is correct and one of the worlds foremost gay right activists is a bigot.

Muted in a normal press game?
I need help with protocol. Before the S1901 moves and after only an initial greeting message I have been muted by another player such that no messages go through. Apparently no other player is experiencing this. Shouldn't that be against the rules? What recourse do I have? I am not interested in playing in this environment, but I do not want to have a "resign" on my record either.

Game 105217 Question
gameID=105217

Split Diplomat here says I cheated. I don't understand how I could have. Maybe because I took 3 sc's from a player that went CD, but if you look at the map of the game, you will see that I would have won anyway, as I was about to take the 3 Sc's from Russia within another year. What do you guys think?

Comparing Vdip to WebDip
I was bored and so I checked out Vdip. Man, they don't have discussions and dramas like we have. They just post variants threads and King Atom is actually leading a good thread over there (trying out all the variants). What a strange parallel universe.
