http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20344750 Mr Charisma-Bypass still doesn't get it ...... in his own head he thinks he could be Barack, the guy is living in cloud cuckoo land. Bad losers always find someone else to blame....
Across the world people are on tenterhooks. Americans are preparing to stay up all night, Europeans are readying themselves for a day of protest, and China has closed down Google. It's the political event of the year... It's the UK police commissioner elections!!!!!
I don't know, red, you can tell a lot about a man from the words he uses. For example, anyone who uses the words "going forward" can be instantly dismissed as a complete arsehole and safely ignored.
For the record, I have voted, mostly because the UKIP candidate comes across as an absolute nut-job and I want to make sure he *doesn't* win. I think the idea of elected police commissioners is pretty pointless, though.
However I think the turn-out in my area is going to be *really* low. Polling stations opened at 7am this morning and shut at 10pm. When I voted, about an hour ago at 6.30pm, fewer than 60 people had voted, all day, at my polling station.
I was seriously tempted, actually. I had two policies. The first was that I'd promise to do absolutely nothing, and the second was that I'd donate my salary to charity.
I am genuinely convinced I would have been a shoo-in.
Democracy for me is about elected representatives being accountable to their constituency for their actions, just because we voted a person in does not make the process better then the police authorities they replace. Why is this happening, it makes no sense to me and so I'm not voting. Who will these people ultimately be responsible to .... their political paymasters. I'm open to suggestions as to why this might be a great idea if anyone can offer one.
Yes, in fact there are several of them, Nigee - there's an election for a commissioner for each police force in the country, of which there are quite a few.
Well... my vote's been cast. Less than two hours to go, and I was the 183rd voter. It's going to be an almighty struggle for the rest of the 9489 registered voters of Plymstock, Dunstone to cast their votes, I can tell you! That'll teach them for leaving it to the last minute!
"So what things can you vote for in the US? I count: DA, Referendums, Pres, Gov, Mayor, Senate, House, State senate, State house, City council."
Don't forget sheriff and country supervisor. Our incumbent sheriff ran unopposed, but we had a very intense county supervisor election that drove voter turnout up over 75%. One precinct had to photocopy ballots when they ran out (yes, this is legal, they become "provisional ballots" and are hand-counted).
I voted at 4:30 at my local primary school that they had closed for the day. I was the twentieth person to vote. The polling station had 4 staff there all day. What a waste. And to top it all when I got there the candidate I was going to vote for wasn't on the ballot, I'd done some research put my postcode into the pcc website to determine I was in the west mods ward, but when I voted I'm in staffs ward ffs.
I voted this morning. The polls had been open for a couple of hours and I was only the 5th person to vote - that's one more than the number of people officiating at the polling station (who were all reading books and looked surprised when I arrived). I wonder if the people officiating there were the only other ones who'd bothered to vote?
Either way, there was one candidate from each of the 4 major parties (Con, Lab, UKIP, Lib) and 2 independents. No one from the main parties had bothered to campaign - I didn't even know there was a UKIP candidate. As we got to vote for a first and second choice I thought "Screw 'em" and voted for the 2 independents.
I am thinking about running a tournament, but I have a question regarding the impact of a scoring system. What do you think the results would be of a scoring system based on the following:
What if rankings are assigned by number of solos, with a tie-breaker being total centres?
A wants to hold. B wants to move to C, which is next to A. Is A supporting B's move the same as A holding in strength? If someone tries to come into A, does the support on B make A weaker? thanks!
I can see my ghost rating for Sept. and Oct. but don't seem to appear in the Nov. listings. Should I presume I have done so badly that I have fallen off the bottom?
How does the US get away from the two party system?
I don't have any idea so I'm looking to see what others think. Do we somehow outlaw politcal parties altogether and make candidates run on their own merits? Do we have to do serious reform to campaign financing as well? Give me your ideas!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/texas-secession-petition-qualifies-for-white-house-response_n_2125159.html ...and that ended so well. LOL. (Also, secessionist talk amongst several states--Texas having easily the most petition votes--in a year with not one but TWO Abe Lincoln movies?)
I know that there was a giant trade a day ago involving Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, and Mark Buerhle. There was also a lot of pissy Tweeting, specifically from Mike/Giancarlo Stanton.
This may seem like a silly question, but I've never had a fireplace before, so... Where do I get it? Most of the trees around here are pine, so I can't burn what falls from storms. A cord goes for close to $300, which seems like a lot, but I don't have anything to compare it to.
Please answer this as objectively as you can, and not in personal terms, okay thanks:
Please help me list the left's possible responses to the failure of communist states degenerating into anarchy. I have a few possibilities inside but please feel free to help me hone them into more nuanced responses, see inside.
I know not many of you are following this, but what's everybody's take on this issue? Bad government or worst government ever? I'm not sure if I'm done with the VVD yet (I think I am) but I'm surely done with Mark Rutte.
I have an army in A and B. My ally has an army in C. I am going to have A support move C to D (bad guy). Can B support hold A or is that a wasted move since A is not holding but support moving? Thanks!
