I am thinking about running a tournament, but I have a question regarding the impact of a scoring system. What do you think the results would be of a scoring system based on the following:

Noob question, again

A wants to hold. B wants to move to C, which is next to A. Is A supporting B's move the same as A holding in strength? If someone tries to come into A, does the support on B make A weaker? thanks!

How does the US get away from the two party system?

I don't have any idea so I'm looking to see what others think. Do we somehow outlaw politcal parties altogether and make candidates run on their own merits? Do we have to do serious reform to campaign financing as well? Give me your ideas!

I really don't understand why cannot you get the data automatically, being the data dump generated by a cron job to some ftp place which you access

I'm sure that would be doable, but Kestas hasn't set it up that way yet.

it's 1 line in the cron to start mysqldump and place it where needed and 1 ftp account to create (or a passowrded webspace). Takes about 10 seconds to set up. Once in a lifetime.

@roka - It isn't a straight data dump. It gets some special scrubbing done to remove passwords and personally identifiable information beyond player ID.

What a month. I gained 91.7

, 350 spots up to 113 overall, and I'm in top 50 for live and gunboat. Perhaps I'm better than I give myself credit for. Or maybe I just had a lucky month.

I gained a lot that month, especially in gunboat… weird how my overall is lower than all my others (my non-live press, gunboat, and live ratings).

The name of this should just be changed to the e-peen rating, or EPR for short.

Is you roverall rating lower? Or just your ranking. Big difference. You can have your rating go up but ranking go down because that is relative to others, including new people who jusy entered that month.

I don't mind a late GR release except in cases like this, when it looks like two recent eliminations in games this month are going to smash my currently respectable ranking.

hellalt, if you had won the game where you played through 2 CDs, gameID=101628, instead of us stalemating you then your rating might have been higher.

@Mapu - Not really. Gunboat is greatly reduced in it's effect on overall GR. It would have made little difference whether he got 1/3 or all the GR from it as there wasn't that much in it. Plus, that game ended back on Sunday which was *this* month, not October, so it isn't in his GR yet.

No need. He has done well and I applaud him. We have had a friendly ribbing going on for some time. When I reached my peak of like 71st on the site, I was doing the same to him, so he has earned his gloating.

But his fortunes will change and my star is rising again, so a couple months form now, I will be doing it to him again. :-)

Where to get Firewood?

This may seem like a silly question, but I've never had a fireplace before, so...
Where do I get it? Most of the trees around here are pine, so I can't burn what falls from storms. A cord goes for close to $300, which seems like a lot, but I don't have anything to compare it to.
