taking odds on bombing - syria/iran, obama/romney
i say if obama is elected, 70% chance syria gets it, 60% iran.
if romney i say 80% bombs away on syria, 60% on iran.
and of course, drones/cia/funding terrorist organizations in those states 100% on both, no question.
any takers?

Game is coming to a close, and USA vanished. Since not all parties want a draw yet, we would love a replacement.

infiltration/corporate espionage/hiding/lying - evil?
can we have a consensus that people who lie/cheat/steal are evil and should not delude themselves into thinking they are on the side of justice? also should i do further research into the topic, of which i know something, and try to publish a book or something? or would it be dismissed as paranoia?

Frustration from blatant stupidness
Consider that you are italy in a gunboat and decide to play austian friendly (opening to piedmond, apulia and iosian) and he attacks venice in the first turn. Okay can happen, you take it back in fall and continue playing anti france and pro-austria. Now he attacks you again..

Should American Presidents be allowed to invest overseas?
Listening to this lame debate, and this point is an interesting one. In an era where just about all wealthy investors invest overseas, should this be held against a president or presidential candidate?

Ad Blocking YouTube
I didn't mind the previous way YouTube had its ads...
They were easy to skip...

But the way they have it now...the video starts, and then stops, and then you have to click a small, little cylindrical "skip ad" thing in the corner...anyone know a good ad block for it?

I sat for achillies for the last year and screwed up at the end (I meant to build an army in Kiel), had to pull back on France. Otherwise I have no idea what was going on.

yeah, I was laughing at that

and I think it is Lando's startegy to attack Russia as Turkey. Did that in my last gunboat with him as well (a Crusher both times as well, maybe Lando wants to make the Crusher's job easier :-))

It did drag on. The east was a clusterfuck, but so was the west. At one point, everyone except lando had the 6-way draw vote on. I didn't really want a six-way draw either, and I thought he was waiting for another elimination or two, so I started working on helping him take out Russia and helping Germany take out France.

He then decided that stabbing me was a good idea. By the time I fought him off and took position back on him and forced him to put his draw up, I had taken my draw down because England was at one center and Russia was at three and should have been easily eliminated. The west finally took England's last dot and I hoped Germany would take StP like he was moving towards.

Turkey wouldn't stop attacking me, however, and when Germany retreated out of Marsailles to Piedmont instead of Gascony at the same time he moved away from StP, I realized we were going to have to settle for a 5-way and threw my draw up.

The crusher is fun. I believe it's my second time using it. It can be very effective, but it's certainly a risk. I wasn't sure what to expect in a 10 point game. I thought there might have been a lot of weak competition where I could exploit the potency of it. That was an enjoyable game with a lot of back and forth and switching of alliances, though.

On a side note, it seems every game that I am Austria I get attacked by Italy, and I always guess wrong. If I defend against the crusher, they take Triest in 01. If I defend Triest in 01, they go Crusher.

I agree with what Zmaj said a few days back in that it is up to Austria to defend his home and up to Germany to defend against the crusher assuming Munich is idle.

Have you guys noticed there's no need for France to defend from a German move to Burgundy in 1901 any more?
Fortress Door (1837 D)
17 Oct 12 UTC
yeah, I have noticed that to. Now, if France supports himself into Burgundy in 1901, I tend to view that as agressive, rather than defensive as it is meant to be

And how about this English opening: gameID=98869

If I remember the table of openings correctly, it had the most wins. If it catches on, it could bring the era of northern Juggernauts.

Fortress Door (1837 D)
17 Oct 12 UTC
I agree Zmaj. Once Russia sees more England going into the Channel in 1901, they will start moving north. France is likely to still be pissed at England, so it leads to a dead England

Nice name, sounds dignified. Also, since the main feature is the North Sea DMZ, we could call it "No Pissing in the Pool."

Curious U.S. and French Military Deployments

And the Nobel Prize for Peace Goes To...the European Union?
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/12/us-nobel-peace-idUSBRE89A1N820121012 Really...the whole EU? (Though I guess if Obama can get the award for, well, basically just not being President Bush, anything's fair game, lol. Still...nearly a whole continent winning the award?) :)
