taking odds on bombing - syria/iran, obama/romney
i say if obama is elected, 70% chance syria gets it, 60% iran.
if romney i say 80% bombs away on syria, 60% on iran.
and of course, drones/cia/funding terrorist organizations in those states 100% on both, no question.
any takers?

Need USA replacement
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=98415

Game is coming to a close, and USA vanished. Since not all parties want a draw yet, we would love a replacement.

infiltration/corporate espionage/hiding/lying - evil?
can we have a consensus that people who lie/cheat/steal are evil and should not delude themselves into thinking they are on the side of justice? also should i do further research into the topic, of which i know something, and try to publish a book or something? or would it be dismissed as paranoia?

Frustration from blatant stupidness
Consider that you are italy in a gunboat and decide to play austian friendly (opening to piedmond, apulia and iosian) and he attacks venice in the first turn. Okay can happen, you take it back in fall and continue playing anti france and pro-austria. Now he attacks you again..

Should American Presidents be allowed to invest overseas?
Listening to this lame debate, and this point is an interesting one. In an era where just about all wealthy investors invest overseas, should this be held against a president or presidential candidate?

Ad Blocking YouTube
I didn't mind the previous way YouTube had its ads...
They were easy to skip...

But the way they have it now...the video starts, and then stops, and then you have to click a small, little cylindrical "skip ad" thing in the corner...anyone know a good ad block for it?

Gaydar Exists - And the Obama Administration Funded the Study

The National Science Foundation spent $30,000 to fund a study done by the University of Washington and Cornell University's to measure "gaydar" - the ability of people to identify sexual orientation merely by appearance. The researchers confirmed that "gaydar" exists, writing that participants were about 60% accurate when attempting to identify sexual orientation by appearance.

Wow...that study is gay...

Agreed. I'm from Washington and I'm embarrassed by even living close to Udub now. *wince*
Draugnar (0 DX)

More to the point, would not tossing a coin result in 50% accuracy? So 10% of the gays were so fucking flamboyant the coin toss wasn't needed. The folks just knew they were queens. Hardly what I would call "gaydar". :-)

Draug - yeah...pretty amazing. I also heard of a recent study in which they test students to see if they could identify Political affiliation by looking at faces...such a valuable use for teh money we borrow from China!

In Obama's defense, I don't think he decides directly how the NSF spends its money. I don't even know how much oversight he gets.

Anyways, of all the waste shown in that article, the "Lifeline" is the one that pisses me off. Lets say we all agree that it's important for destitute people to be able to have a phone to look for work (I'm sure we don't). How about a government subsidized LAND LINE then?
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Oct 12 UTC
Actually, cell lines are cheaper and arr always with the person in theory so no missing that offer of employmemt because you were at the grocry store spending your food stamps on beer and pretzels.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

lol Draug. They really are cheaper? Well I guess no problem then :P
Draugnar (0 DX)
16 Oct 12 UTC
Considering the homeless are, well, homeless so no place for a landline and unless the copper is already run to those with a home, physically running cabling costs more then the bull discoint on a cheap cell phone like those you get free with a contract but cost under $100 without and actually cost the provider about $5. As far as the cost of the minutes, the government owns the airwaves leased to the cell providers and would surely get a steal of a deal. So in this case, yes, it is cheaper. We already provide cell phones to victims of spousal abuse in shelters. We do it with recycled cell phones which would do the job fine for this purpose as well. Seriously, a little research wouldn't hurt up front before assuming really old tech is cheaper just because it's old.
yes, this was a direct order from obama himself. if mccain were in office he'd veto the study. and further he would be talking tough about bomb bomb iran and.... oh wait.
Krelin, idiot, do I have to remind you that congress funds these agencies, not the Obama administration. Should we send you back to 8th grade social studies or are you content with being ignorant dumbfuck?

No need to answer, we know you are PROUD to be an ignorant dumbfuck.

In fact the article itself not to mention the actual document, specifically target congress as at fault.
Page 6 of the Wastebook

"All that follows in this report can be traced right back to what Congress has and has not done. Article 1, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution entrusts Congress with the responsibility to approve how money is spent out of the Treasury and to account for such expenditures. Congress approved every cent spent to fund the projects outlined in this report and did nothing to stop any of these expenditures. In fact, in many cases members of Congress actually took credit for the projects with no shame. All of the outrageous and wasteful contents of this report were made possible by either the action or lack of action of Congress, earning it the well-deserved but unwanted distinction as the biggest waste of taxpayer money in 2012."

Curious U.S. and French Military Deployments
I get the free broadcasts from STRATFOR about stuff (I would pay for the whole deal, but quite frankly can't afford it at the moment) and I recently received this broadcast from them, and I am interested to hear what the community thinks about this and what it could potentially mean:

And the Nobel Prize for Peace Goes To...the European Union?
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/12/us-nobel-peace-idUSBRE89A1N820121012 Really...the whole EU? I didn't know an entire alliance of member states could win the award...but...OK...lol...those in Europe, does the EU deserve it? (Though I guess if Obama can get the award for, well, basically just not being President Bush, anything's fair game, lol. Still...nearly a whole continent winning the award?) :)
