Romney wants the oil. He doesn't care about independence of an oppressed people. It sounds like I'm criticizing him, but it's what he wants. If Congress does fight to declare war (or do what they have the last 60 years and declare their own neutrality in the decision of declaring war, thus leaving it to the President), then Romney will probably go all out on Iran. It's more important to the US and it's more beneficial to Israel, who I presume will be one of his favorite allies if he's elected.

I say little chance of either. Romney would be more supportive of an Israeli attack on Iran, but I think even he knows the American people want no part in another preemptive adventure. Obama doesn't seem to want any action at all, but I still have a hunch that there's a massive plan to take care of Iran during it's election next summer. They've got a Persian Spring hashtag ready no matter who wins.

As for Syria, no bombing by either if Turkey stays out, an intervention with everything short of American soldiers on the ground if Turkey goes in. NATO, baby.

i agree in your average... but a 50 point difference on iran? to be honest, i think iran is too important for either to have much of a say in the matter. i would say the difference is more in syria where for propaganda purposes they may choose to delay an attack until a republican gets in (when obama's probably reelected)

Obama 100% Syria (with Turkish intervention, 5% Syria (without Turkish intervention), 10% Iran

Romney 100% Syria (with Turkish intervention, 5% Syria (without Turkish intervention), 15% Iran

Romney's only higher since he'd be more open to the Israelis starting something. Since the Iranians would attack us in some way in the aftermath of such an attack, we'd of course have to respond.

I think whoever wins the election, Iranian nuclear sites being bombed by US forces in support of Israel - 99%.

Syria being bombed by US forces -100% if they start using chemical weapons, 50% if Turkey goes in, 0% otherwise.

Chances of US boots on Iranian or Syrian soil - 0%, except maybe a few Special Forces (who are probably there already).

100% on "tough talk" from republicans though since that is the entirety of their post iraq war foreign policy

I'm going for zero boots on the ground apart from advisors and special training forces. Little chance of bombing either. I think we should pop this thread back up in 5 years to see how it went?

I think Iran and Syria are likely to receive lots of cash from Anerica and her allies soon btw to help them on the road to peace and democracy.
