taking odds on bombing - syria/iran, obama/romney
i say if obama is elected, 70% chance syria gets it, 60% iran.
if romney i say 80% bombs away on syria, 60% on iran.
and of course, drones/cia/funding terrorist organizations in those states 100% on both, no question.
any takers?

infiltration/corporate espionage/hiding/lying - evil?
can we have a consensus that people who lie/cheat/steal are evil and should not delude themselves into thinking they are on the side of justice? also should i do further research into the topic, of which i know something, and try to publish a book or something? or would it be dismissed as paranoia?

Frustration from blatant stupidness
Consider that you are italy in a gunboat and decide to play austian friendly (opening to piedmond, apulia and iosian) and he attacks venice in the first turn. Okay can happen, you take it back in fall and continue playing anti france and pro-austria. Now he attacks you again..

Ad Blocking YouTube
I didn't mind the previous way YouTube had its ads...
They were easy to skip...

But the way they have it now...the video starts, and then stops, and then you have to click a small, little cylindrical "skip ad" thing in the corner...anyone know a good ad block for it?

The NFL through week 6
at the beginning of the NFL season there was an interesting discussion on which teams everybody thought would succeed this year... Well, ~1/3rd of the way through the season, what's changed? teams projected to suck are killing it, those supposed to do good are dropping like flies... lets discuss?

0 winless teams, A surprisingly good NFC West, the Saints 1-4 and Pittsburgh 2-3... a 4 way tie in the AFC East and an undefeated Falcons in a shitty division this year... RG3 and the Skins surprisingly decent while the cowboys are there usual selves... Houston finally loses a game but still a 3 game lead in the AFC South. 5 of the 8 divisions can be considered "close" with 1 game or less between first and second place(can change if SD beats Den tonight). even the Rams are in it to win it this year.
You said the exact same thing on Vdip lol.

Giants will win it all again.

The 49ers NEED to stop playing Tim Tebow with colin Kaepernick, it's destroying the rhythm and confidence they gave Alex Smith back last year.

And you may say "Ah, come on, it's just Alex Smith, bench him"...

The players respect him as a leader now...
17 TDs and only 5 INTs last year...
Until yesterday no 3 INT games for two years...
The 49ers were within one Kyle Williams fumble of the SB with him...
He had the best QB rating coming in yesterday...
Kaepernick just isn't ready...
Smith's won his second shot and redeemed himself and deserves to lead...

LEAVE SMITH BE!

In other news:

-GOOD race in the NFC West...and you all were mocking us a couple years back! ;)
-Are the Patriots on the way down now? Are the Bills or Dolphins on the way back up?
-The poor, poor Raiders...and Browns...
-RGIII and Co. have a shot at the Wild Card if they can keep this up...
-Looks like the Colts picked a winner with Luck...
-A bitter Niners/Giants rivalry is being rekindled here, clearly...
-Bench Sanchez and play Tebow already, the 2-QB game for SF and the NYJ is a joke...
-The NFC North is also pretty interesting...

@Goldfinger- actually I posted here first, lol...
@obiwan- The NFC West is surprising this year, and everyone was mocking them because a couple years ago they were making it into the playoffs only because a team from the division HAD to make it... 49ers benching Alex Smith would be foolish, I don't think anyone says they should... also, I think it's the bills and dolphins on the way up more than Pats on the way down... in regards to the Raiders and Browns, well, that's just normal for them at this point... I agree, Skins may have a shot(but lets hope not)... Colts with Luck is pretty good, even if they got destroyed yesterday... I won't even touch on the Niners Giants rivalry, because the last two times I've watched them play(NFC Championship and yesterday) the team I wanted to see win has lost... I think they should let Tebow play a couple, see how he does. but hey, they are 3-3 like the rest of the division, so what they are doing can't be too bad... and the NFC north is usually somewhat interesting...

Speaking of the playoff rule on how teams make it in: Who else agrees that it should be the top 6 teams from each conference, instead of the way it is now(top from each division plus 2 wild cards in each conference)??? I just find it unfair that a team that goes 9-7 could get booted out by a 6-10 team ONLY because the 6-10 team won their division and a team from that division HAS to go...

Alex Smith is the Eli Manning of three years ago. Once he wins, he's elite. That's all there is to be said. Sure, Rodgers turned out better so far, but Smith is an excellent QB. They should have made it last year and would have won the way that the Pats played.

• The NFC West should be one of the better races this year, no doubt.
• Pats aren't going down, but they are on a downslope. Bills and Dolphins are coming back but slowly.
• The Raiders suck and the Browns suck.
• RG3 is good for fantasy but not going to get away with his tricks forever, similar to Vick.
• Luck is in the top 10 QBs in the NFL at the end of this year and top 5 after next.
• Tebow sucks as a passer, Sanchez sucks as a leader… which do you prefer?
• AFC South is very interesting. The Texans seem to have moved from Indianapolis in 2009, built a stadium, and played without the people in Indianapolis even knowing it. Then the Houston team got shipped here. I don't know what happened, but it's quite scandalous.

One more…

• According to ESPN, the Chiefs have not held a lead for a single second in regulation thus far this season.

In response/addition to obi's in other news

- Thats cause a couple years back the NFC West was complete crap - I'm glad to see some sort of competition coming out of that division
- Yes the patriots are in slight decline - I dont think the bills and dolphins are getting better, maybe better as much as the patriots have declined?
-That statement can be said every year and will be said every year for all time
-RGIII playing well, the nfc east is good though it will be tough
-Luck has been lucky at times
- No one plays "the underdog" as well as the giants
- Cause all tebow does is win games

-NFC north is interesting I guess:
The Vikings have one impressive win against the niners - other than that their wins have come against jacksonville(in ot), detroit and tennessee. They still have to play 3 teams from the nfc west, houston as well as four games against the bears and packers. at best i'm thinking 8-8

The Bears at 4-1 have a similar look: Wins against Indy (Lucks first nfl game), Jacksonville, and st louis. Only one "impressive" win at dallas but the cowboys look pretty bad. Yes only one loss which was at greenbay and cutler plays like crap against the packers but they too have a much harder schedule coming up - 5 division games and games against houston and sf. I'm thinking 10-6 and a wildcard

The Packers finally put together an impressive win in houston against what many analysts were saying was the best team in the nfl. the 3-3* packers have a much easier schedule coming up with their hardest game at NYG. Unimpressive losses to seattle and indy are the reason the packers aren't 5-1. I'm thinking 11-5 possibly 12-4, winning the division as well as sweeping the division

The lions - well they are looking like the lions - Stafford wants to throw for 10,000 yards but they cant score enough and their D just isnt good enough. 6-10 time to get some better DB's and not waste picks on hot heads for the d line

In response to "Luck has been lucky at times":

I would like to remind you who his offensive linemen are:

LT - Anthony Castonzo (decent at best)
LG - Jeff Linkenbach (sucks)/Joe Reitz (6'8" and can't dunk a football over a goalpost, sucks)
C - Samson Satele (sucks)
RG - Mike McGlynn (sucks)
RT - Winston Justice (sucks)

Lots of luck comes from running around and finding someone, but I'm just thankful he still has all four of his limbs.
in response to obi

Nobody's saying pull Smith. The Giants just had his number all day. It happens.

- It has turned into a surprisingly good race in the West. All 4 teams are contenders. I have to admit the teams I'm rooting for are Seattle and the Rams (with Legatron), even though neither will likely make it into the playoffs.
- The Patriots are not on their way down. Yeah, their D sucks, but it always has, and their offense is just as good as ever. Bill is having some odd issues with managing the game though lately. Hopefully it will sort itself out.
-The Raiders should have won yesterday. It would've been nice to have no undefeated teams.
-I'd rather give RGIII the wildcard than the Iggles. I'm looking forward to next week's game
- Long term, they're saying he'll be just as good as Payton, so I'd like to watch him over the next few years
- Its only a rivalry if you make it one. I think our rivalries with the Eagles, Cowboys, and Patriots will still take primacy (the Patriots rivalry is my favorite one)
- I think the only thing keeping them back is that Sanchez isn't professional enough to be okay with being benched (for a good example, see A-Rod). He'll throw a fit and try to jump ship if it happens, methinks, even though it may a better move for the team
- It is, but not so much as the NFC West at this point.

And no, Smith is not the Eli Manning of 3 years ago. 1) He doesn't throw off his back foot. 2) He has a fantastic running game to support him and 3) no ring.

But the teams that I enjoy watching most this year (and hope get into the playoffs) are the Rams, Bengals, Seahawks, Redskins, and Vikings. All of them have a shot, but most likely won't get in :(

I definitely think Packers will win NFC north. We might give one away to Chicago at Soldier, and there's always the chance for an ugly loss in the Metrodome too, but we'll definitely win the rest of the division. Pack is a weird team. I know we can beat anybody, but sometimes we have really strange misfires all game. Gotta shape up if we want a prayer at making it past our first playoff game.

If we go up against the Giants postseason again the way we're playing now (not counting yesterday) we don't have a chance.
butterhead (90 D)
15 Oct 12 UTC
@Yellowjacket- I think they were pretty shaped up against Houston last night... 6 TD's and only allowed one major defensive/Special Teams play(the Punt block for TD), 3 picks for the Defense... My second favorite team got embarrassed to say the least...
akilies (861 D)
15 Oct 12 UTC
Yeah but the packers have two losses that just shouldnt have happend - up 18 at indy and only scoring 12 in seattle. The next 3 games will be huge in figuring out where we are this year
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

exactly. I'm happy about yesterday, but its' too early to start screaming superbowl just cuz we were on track for one game.
Celticfox (100 D(B))

The Bears defense is what is keeping them alive. They lead the NFL in take aways. Also they've out scored some offenses in the past 3 weeks.
butterhead (90 D)
16 Oct 12 UTC
Oh I know that it's too early for the Pack to say superbowl(especially since my prediction of Texans-49ers with a Texans win is still my belief)...
@Celtic Fox- 1 Defensive TD in week 3, 2 in week 4 and 2 in week 5 if I remember correctly... 5 total defensive TD's, which is slightly less than 1/3 of their Total TD's... they have a +9 turnover difference, and have held opposing teams to a total of 7 TD's(Indy got 3, the Pack got 2, Dallas got 2)... total score against the Bears D= 71 over 5 games, with 44 of it being in the first 2 games of the season(where the Defense did not get ANY points on takeaways)... so yea, I think you are right to say that the Defense is keeping them alive :P
butterhead (90 D)
16 Oct 12 UTC
Oh and a correction: only 6 TD's AGAINST the Bear's Defense, the 7th was a Defensive TD by an opponent, so that was against the Bear's offense...

And YJ I don't think the Packers will win the NFC they have some catching up to and both the Bears and the Vikes are looking good. Not to mention the Lions aren't the worse team out there. But then again I am biased being a Bears fan and all.

Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
16 Oct 12 UTC
Celtic the vikes are a joke and don't deserve (ever) to be where they are. The bears might pull it off if you can beat us @ Soldier and the vikes beat us too. You're only leading the division by 1 game, so by the numbers it can go any way easily. But judging by recent history I'd say as things stand now the packers are at least 60% likely to take the division.
