Draug if you asked the question after the result of an investigation to encourage community input then i would say it was a fair hypothetical.

However given the judgement, by a some mod, that posting veiled comments about a gunboat game is cheating, you are as guilty as the original. That said, it appears that they were doing it for a meta-game purpose, while you were perhaps doing it to gain community support or conversation.

Imo, you should be allowed post hypothetical questions about what is defined to be cheating. You should not do it during an ongoing cheating investigation where it is obvious who you are talking about. (and this is all assuming my understanding of what happened is actualmy what happened)

@ora - The responses I had already gotten and the fact that I saw the perpetrator docked what looked lile 1000 indicated the investigation was concluded. So to respond to the perps outrageous claim that it was breaking the rules but not cheating, I decided to create the thread. If the investigation wasn't concluded, then why was he docked points and how the fuck was I to lnow it was still going on? Seriously, the mods don't tell us when they finish their investigations most times. So we are caught in a dilema. In court, a verdict is rendered that the public can see, but not here.

And Draug, you are allowed to rob a guy, when you take back your own property. If he stole your wallet, then it's not a crime to steal it back. You really don't get the principle of an act made by other person authorizes you to defend yourself and therefore overstep the law. Self-defense, avoiding accidents, saving lives, and so on. Many many cases in which you can step out from the boundaries of law, because there are exceptional cases.

When a game is illegitimate then you can't cheat in that. It's impossible. If your opponent plays poker with marked cards, then why would you consider not paying him the pot as cheating? He doesn't have the right.

About site rules: those are a different issue, those can be broken regardless of the game. Like bo_sox and FD got banned, it was breaking the rules, but it wasn't cheating.

Cheating: by definition is taking advantage by breaking rules.
breaking rules, on the other side, are just breaking rules.

If you are speeding on the street that's breaking rules.
If you are speeding in a street race, where you are supposed to keep the limits, and you win because you broke speed limit, that's cheating.

Fuck that Draug, there was no way France could have soloed in that game, even SplitDiplomat wouldn't soloed in that game. Just because you don't have strategic oversight it doesn't mean you are right. The only solo threat in that game was me, who, by the way very sportmanlikely drew that game.

Now I'm curious, what is the official "rule" on this sort of situation? If a game has two multi's banned, is it now site rule for that game to be immediately drawn or canceled regardless of what players in the game want? I saw jmo (I think) say he will cancel that sort of game, but does that mean all mods are actually required to do so these days, even if all in the game don't want to cancel/draw?

I know mods *can* force a pause, but my understanding is that if one person states that he/she does not want to pause, then the mods are not "allowed" to force pause it, right? So, even if one person is very vocal about their opinion on a situation, and breaks site rules to vocalize that opinion, are the mods required to bow down to that opinion if it is *not* a unanimous opinion of those in the game?

Just like life, diplomacy isn't always fair, and things don't always play out how you think they should, (especially in a live game and especially when playing with multiple people you don't actually know)... There's a lot more that could be said along this line of thinking, but I suppose I'll leave it at that...
