Sublime Diplomacy Commentaries
He's too dignified to post this here himself I think, but Triumvir's webdip commentaries are fantastic:

How Can You Get To 270 Without "The 47%," Mr. Romney?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/18/mitt-romney-47-percent-full-video-_n_1893615.html
1. Reactions, at all, to that 47% comment?
2. There is some truth to the comment, but was it politically-wise to make?
3. Saying that they're not the one's he'd worry about...how do you DEFEND a statement telling half of America you're an irrelevant leech to Mighty Mitt?

Lawyers, guns and money
In the past we've had games where all players were attorneys or law students. It was fun. I'd like to set it up again. Perhaps two games; a full press and a gunboat.

Encourage Smoking - Save Money
Sure, smoking causes disease and statistically speaking kills you at an early age, possibly after radical cancer or breathing Treatments…but “healthy” people linger on, end up having multiple surgeries before they die, etc. In reality, smoking saves health care costs and should be encouraged. Plus, YJ likes it and should indulge…die happy!

I wanted to start a debate on the coming elections, but I guess that's too narrow for a thread topic given most of your aren't Dutch. But how about a general Dutch thread?

OK Webdip friends, I tried this on facebook but didn't get enough responses to help me out. I've been a on/off smoker for quite a while, and I'm ready to quit for the 19th time, only this time it hasn't been easy. What I would like is for everybody who reads this to suggest one 5-10 min. activity for me to do when the cravings hit, just something to distract me until it passes. If I can get through the first two days I'm home free.

Lets make quitting fun! Get creative now. I'll make a big list of everything suggested, and keep it with me. I'll just go through them in order, and think of you when I try your suggestion, and think about how disappointed you'll be if I fuck up on your turn.

Again, not looking for general tips - I've got a plan. I just want distractions and thought this might be a neat way to add a few to the ones I came up with. Thanks in advance!

Go on a run. A mile takes 5-10 minutes; it's hard if you don't do it but gets easier really quickly. My grandpa is 71 and can do 12 miles; I am going to beat him before I go to college...

But seriously, get laid, watch a prono, eat some carrots (or other *healthy* not sweet snack). Read a chapter from a book you've always wanted to read. Watch the lobby scene in Matrix. Watch the fight between Superman and General Zod, Ursa and the big guy in Superman II. Watch the battle at the fields of Pellenor or Helmn's Deep or Gandlaf's fight with the Balrog.

Join the Republican Party and gain their trust. Rise through their ranks based on well thought out speeches regarding economics and the American dream until you've built up a firm support base. Go on to win the Presidential nomination by making your rivals look like a bunch of complete loons and no-hopers...

...Then, once all of then Party's money and efforts and hopes are invested in you, wait until about a couple of months before the election and start acting like a complete knob-head!

It may take slightly longer than 5-10 minutes, granted, but it's a great laugh!

You know, YJ, I had a little drink, but I'll tell you about my coffee addiction. I really drank a lot of coffee and it really started to affect my personality somehow. But the thing is that every year I make a long bicycle tour for the mountains for a few weeks. This summer, I stopped right before we left and haven't touched coffee since. I guess the secret is to quit smoking and then do something really intense for a few weeks, something that doesn't make you think about smoking and then stay focused for a few weeks after that: now you're cured.

Try Myst if you haven't before. Play sporcle.com (geography is best, though the film score ID one is great). Plan some things to do when you visit a city you've always wanted to visit. Try to catch up on recent reviews in some tech gadget field you're interested in (digital cameras?). Do some logic puzzles.

Do a set of push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups. If you're still craving a cig after that, do another set, or go for a jog. Joining a gym and starting a regular exercise routine helps too. Good luck!

Go to your local dollar store, buy a garden gnome or a pinata or something of this nature. Go to a McDonalds and order a large coke and when they hand you your drink hand them the gnome or pinata and say, god bless you (sir or ma'am) and drive away.

I found I couldn't stand the taste of cigarette smoke after eating chocolate, so when the cravings were really bad I'd have a piece of chocolate and then light up. Yuk!

When was the last time you smoked? If you just started to quit, I hear they're really helpful. If you haven't smoked in a while, it probably isn't a good idea...

I'm just afraid adding that bit of nicotine will soothe me temporarily, but extend the "painful part" outside the realm of 2 days (after that it stops PHYSICALLY hurting me :P).
LegatusMentiri (100 D)

I successfully quit smoking 4 months ago tomorrow after having smoked for 18 years. The way it worked for me was using a combination of patches (2mg) and lozenges/gum for the first week when I was only worried about pushing off the habit, not so much the nicotine. Then I cut out the patch and did only lozenges/gum for about a month after that, purposefully pushing more and more time between them until finally I just didn't need them anymore.

Having that 'bit of nicotine' isn't really bad while your quitting. The nicotine itself is not bad for the system (compared to the thousands of chemicals in cigarette smoke)
LegatusMentiri (100 D)
20 Sep 12 UTC
Don't use an eCigarette, they don't do anything but frustrate you because the taste and the feel is too different, it just makes you WANT to have a real cigarette again.

Do the dishes, clean the catbox, vacuum...something that is quick and gives you a positive outcome. If you are artistic, start a drawing, and add to it only when the craving strikes and it will be your kickin' cigs art. Journal - write your feeligns/thoughts, etc.

Engage family and friends to support and help you...oh, wait...you did and they suck.

Well, we support you, anonymous friend!

Haha thanks Krellin. I like the drawing idea too. I'm terrible but it would be fun. Yeah it is really sad that people I actually know didn't care enough to come up with one simple idea - but Snooki has 2 million friends. *sigh* Fucked up world.

So I got a question, but I'm afraid it will turn into a debate.
So before anyone takes part, know that this is not intended to be a debate, so please refrain from arguing your political opinions on the matter in the thread. You can state your opinion if you like, but my opinion is set and nobody is going to change that, so it is not worth arguing.

Congrats to The Czech. I figured it was over for a while, but when all doubt was removed in '09, I figured I might as well just surrender, since it was WTA. Excellent play slowing me down while you expanded - a couple of those clutch supports missed, and I might have given you a lot more trouble.

Good game all!
