Associating Players with Country
Am I the only one who, when I think of a certian player, generally think of them playing one country? Like MM and Achillies make me think of Austria, Zmaj and Draugnar of Italy, etc?

just wondering if anybody else does this

How many times do people have to see this scenario happen damn near every time in order to recognize it as a bad idea?

Particular mid-game situation: input needed.
I'd say that I am doing quite well in both early- and late-game situations, but my mid-game is severely lacking. In the last game I played (gameID=92638), a difficult situation arrived at the end of 1906. I obviously didn't play it all too well, but as I am completely unsure what I should have done, I would appreciate some input.

The situation is the following: I have France stalemated at the entrance to the Mediterranean, which is quite nice, but unfortunately blocks five units of mine.
Furthermore, I worked hand in hand with Germany for the last three moves, and we managed to make quite a bit of progress against Russia.
Now, in autumn 1906, I unexpectedly captured a whole three centers, which made Germany quite nervous as it put me on 12 SCs (compared to his 9). He started to talk about a disparity in SCs between the two of us, and I felt that he wanted me to propose to let him into one of my SCs (i.e. Vienna). Personally, I felt that the SC difference was only temporary, as I would probably be loosing Rumania again in 1907, while Germany could easily capture both Moscow and Warsaw - effectively balancing our SC count again. How would you guys have reacted / what would you have done under these circumstances?

You could have offered to postpone some builds. Or you could agree the next three centers would be for him.

Don't worry, Draugnar has that on copy/paste and likes to post it randomly, even when it has nothing to do with the thread.

To be honest, not really sure what you should have done. Did you convey the whole "you'll get into warsaw/moscow easily and we'll be even"? Sometimes logic works, sometimes it doesn't... If it doesn't then you're SOL because that seemed to be your only ally on the board. The only other thing you could have done was preemptively defended the stab if it seemed logic wasn't going anywhere.

Funny thing is, chances are that it would have worked out better for both of you if he didn't stab.
WarLegend (1747 D)

Don't think postponing builds would have helped, probably would have made Germany's stab easier though. Who knows
Germany made a poor decision. It depends on his personaility, how the tone of the game was but you probably could have said something that would make him understand that. He had no chance to win by his stab - it brought him away from his momentum. It also killed your chances and sealed the other two's spot in the draw. If anything, he may have been enticed with a three-way draw proposal. He and France had an easy stalemate against you. So if he kne whe couldn';t win (as his stab indicates) he may have just needed another otpion. Of course, it also gives you time to find a way to win.

When other players do not understand the concept of stalemate lines they become more difficult to play against/with. It is unfortunate, most other games weak players are easy to beat. In this game it is way different, they add new variuable.s

Germany made the wrong call, clearly, not just france was stalemated, but also were you. Meaning whatever you do, you can't get to 18SCs, because germany easily secures moscow+warshaw and can build his own stalemate line very easy.

It was a clear 3-way draw between france/germany/italy and germany screwed it. You can't do anything when the other player(s) don't understand the outcome. Just as Lando said.

Ohh, 1 thing you can do, don't join 40 D bet games when you have 1500 D. Bets are pretty good filter, though in this particular case it wouldn't have counted.

I was actually quite happy with the player level. Both Germany and Russia have GRs in the top 50 and I could tell that France and England (for what it was worth) were quite decent too.

While it's true that the german stab ultimatively led to a 4-way draw, I wouldn't necessarily call it a wrong call. France probably urged Germany to stab me, so that he could recapture Marseilles, which might have led Germany to such a reaction.

When it became apparent that Germany will be moving to Tyrolia (in winter 1906), I decided to attempt to cooperate with Russia once again - which (against my expectations) failed horribly. In retrospect, I'm unsure if it wouldn't have been better to just focus my forces on Russia, in an attempt to capture the turkish SCs and eventually even force France to attack Germany by letting Germany grow huge with the austrian SCs.
